Problem in the Underdark

Hi everyone
My problem is seemingly quite strange but i was wondering if there was any solution.
Im in the underdark and i have just been told to go to the Gnome leader for a quest to defeat a monster that they unearthed, the problem is that when i try to speak to him or the gnome called Svirfneblin they keep on saying that the character cannot talk cause he is busy, i have rested and reloaded my save place so many times now its getting irratating, is there some way to solve this.
Any feedback will be much appreciated, thanks

This is a very common bug. Install the Baldur's Gate lastest patch to find it (enter "BG2 Patch" in google, it should be 1st or 2nd link
