Playing the WHOLE game...
Playing the WHOLE game...
I am curious....has anyone managed to play the WHOLE game with one character (including the NPC group - I don't mean solo)? Every quest, every area explored, etc?
Unlike my approach to some previous games, I decided not to read anything about the game before I finished. It was a great approach - the storyline seemed far more compelling that way. But, now that I have finished, I am realizing that I missed huge amounts of the game. Heck - after I emerged from the Underdark, three new areas, never previously visited, showed up on my map. I suppose I needed to have different NPCs in my group to have gotten to those areas.
Still, even though I missed a huge part of the game, I don't know how much more I could have really done. Most of my party had close to maximum experience points before starting the final battles, so there was really nowhere left to go.
Looks like I have great replay potential here - though I really don't relish doing chapter 1 all over again...

That is strange, then...Originally posted by Black Hand:
Those areas always appear for the first time when you leave the underdark. You wont get them earlier with other NPC's or quests.
I only explored one of the areas - Tethys (at that time I was more interested in getting finished with the game). I seemed to arrive in the middle of a quest script which should have started earlier on. For what reason (other than curiosity) would one ever visit those three areas?

From what I read on another site a few months ago, it seems that though alot of players did not like the areas with absolutely nothing in them from BGI, enough liked them so that the developers decided to put in a couple of areas that are not plot or subquest related.

I certainly don't mind having such areas - In fact, I love to explore! I just wish that they had shown up before the endgame. By the time I left the Underdark, I was ready to complete the game (and was pretty much maxed out on XP).Originally posted by ltldrgn1:

Of course, I might not have gone there anyway - I probably would have decided to wait until a quest took me there so as to not spoil the quest. As it was, there were a lot of other places I never visited because I was waiting for a quest to send me there....
By the way - why was there a Lich in the back room of the Tavern at the city gates, and what was the bit between the two "lovers" (at thhe same location) supposed to be all about? I never did figure out what that was all about (or never got the right quest).

Are you sure you have done all the sidequests and all the NPC-related quests? I have and - just arrived in Suldanessar or however it is called - all my characters are maxed out allready (well... not really, I have that nifty exp. cap remover installed, so they keep on advancing levels).
There is a lot of replay value in this game, for a RPG that is (it is not like strategy games - I have played Civ2 and HOMM2-3 for endless hours... but they are not telling a story, right?)

Liches create lairs in the place most sacred, valuable or comfortable to them. This one lives in a bar. (insert punchline here)
The two kids have no further quest code attached. If you listen to their text closely, you'll notice a little ambiguity about the nature of their relationship and activities. Lovers? Smugglers? Serial killers? They're up to something the locals don't like, and if you make a snap assumption and encourage them to continue, you're supposed to be left with a vague feeling of unease.
So what are they doing? It is a mystery.

Right - I had noted the same ambiguity in their statements and realized they were probably not lovers - but I also expected to encounter them at some later point of the game, doing something I would never have really approved of. Just didn't happen....Originally posted by Lenny:
