Do you companion? Spoilers
Although I've had some companions before, I've never kept them around for long. They were either too strong or too weak, they got in the way a lot and most importantly, they couldn't sneak so my stealth based character couldn't strut his stuff.
That being said, I had some nice times with the companions that came with the wonderful White Wolf of Lokken mod: Wulfren, Laurenna, the Berserkers and the ice-bear cubs.
Right now I have Constance, yet another companion made by Emma. She has a nice personality, comes with nice quests, nice banter and she can sneak with the best of them. Yesterday I suddenly realized she has been with me for many game days.
How about you? What are your experiences with companions? What is/are your favorite companion(s)? Do you have anecdotes?

Odd you should mention Constance, Coot, because she's the first companion I've kept with me longer than a day or two. I've had her for a few weeks, and as you say, she banters, includes quests, and occasionally does an interesting thing or two. (Or as the writing would put it, a little of this, a little of that.
) I wish the dialog pathing was more interesting, but that's one area nobody really seems to be working on in RPGs these days, is it? Well, along with intelligent puzzles, at any rate.
I like the fact that Constance increases her skills automatically when I level, so there's no involvement from me. Also, I have a companion teleport mod in place, so I don't have to rely upon meeting her in a prescheduled city. Provided I'm outdoors, I can bring her to me, and again, that's a lot easier than before.
I'm added Kendra to my MW world, and will probably pick her up, too, in the near future. But for the moment, it's just Constance and my character.

lol! I have had the same experience with Constance!
Most companions I have quickly gotten bored of, but Constance is just so well done. As stated, she sneaks well, her banters and stories are great, and I love the way she periodically "gets into trouble."
She has a real 'personality.'

I've downloaded Kendra but I haven't installed the mod yet.
I'm having a real good time with Constance. Both 'Junior' and '300 kwama eggs' made me laugh out loud.
How about other companions? Has anyone played with the cat companions made by Cait and Emma? I've heard good stories about Laura Craft. How about CM Partners? Arya? Summer Hailshimmer (the Meadow Fae companion)? Little Rupert and/or Hazel?

I tried CM Partners and to be honest I wasn't particularly impressed - the characters were all indistinct (especially in comparison to Emma's mods), and their journal entries of the characters revealed some quite conservative views on women (i.e. they are all virgins or whores), amongst other things.
I've just been trying some of the companions with Morrowind Comes Alive 5.0 and they are quite ausing. In Seyda Neen my Wood Elf acquired a Breton travelling companion (her only topic was travel with me) so she followed me around providing a handy meat shield. After he admired her for a bit a new topic became available - make love - so they did (Well he's short and ugly and she was offering...).
So then in Balmora a strapping Redguard couresan came and offered my Wood Elf his services for 200 septims, and wanting to see how the Breton would react. Well she was not amused saying something along the lines of "I thought I meant something to you" but then strangely she said she'd wait anyway. So after a night with the Redguard my Wood Elf returns to the Breton lady whose greeting upon his return was something along the lines of "Well that was embarrassing, everybody could hear the two of you" but seemed keen to resume travel.
Well after another day of adventuring the pair headed to a Vivec tavern, where he was approached by another courtesan (this time Nord female) and after he accepted his offer his Breton companion piped up with something along the lines of "What again. You'll end up catching something. I'm off for a drink." And she did ...
When he returned she mumbled something about being drunk, but still wouldn't dump him. (The poor dear really couldn't have had much self-esteem) Any way what finally ended the relationship was when my Wood Elf took all of her belongings and left her naked just outside Suran. She was last seen chasing him, rather angrily, as he borded a Silt Strider to escape her.
And to think I wasn't going to bother installing it.

I have to admit, I've never actually tried using a companion in Morrowind as I get annoyed enough by the stragglers following me around after asking me to escort them somewhere (I usually get bored half way there and change my mind lol). After reading this thread, I think it may be time to install some companion mods (or at least use the ones in Morrowind Comes Alive)

I've tried Laura Croft, but got annoyed because her training system requires personal handling, and her attitude dives for the silliest reasons--asking a question that has a one word subject can do that.

The pc version of Morrowind, along with the expansions Bloodmoon and Tribunal, is still widely available in shops and on the internet. Cheap, too.EVIL V2.1 wrote:I have xbox but this foruom made me think were can i get pc vesion?
can you equip them with armor?
what do you mean by 'gets in trouble'?
There's a big difference in companions. It depends on the people who made them. As Raven Song pointed out, some have little appeal and possibilities. Others are very well scripted. They have a 'companion share' option, which means you can equip them with anything. In dialogue you can find out about their skills and give them commands.
The companion called 'Constance' comes with a story and quests - and she really does get into trouble.
@Mr Sir: Morrowind comes Alive is one of the better mods IMHO - for different reasons. It really does make Morrowind come alive.

i play on xbox, so the only companions i can get are escort quests... or someone that i continually use a command spell on. and personally, i hate the little stragglers. especially the naked nords. all of them are slow though. and they wont jump to get over mountains.

New one out, Julian, Ashlander. One of the latest bunch. Here's the specs on it, from the readme:
All the standard fare you've come to expect from a companion mod, as developed over the years by many modders in the field - see the credits section for more details! Companion share, warping, teleportation - the usual stuff to make him a help rather than a hindrance.
- Train Julan's skills in whichever direction you choose, either by training him yourself (free, once per day), by asking an NPC Trainer to do it (expensive, but unlimited) or by lending him skillbooks. His attributes are calculated from his skills, and so will rise as you train him. He will also learn new spells as his skill in the magical disciplines increases.
- Can cast useful spells on himself or the player, such as healing, curing, etc. Dependent on magicka level and his skill level.
- Takes healing potions and magicka potions automatically, and can keep himself healed on his own, with potions or spells, unless he runs out of everything.
- Various options for fighting, including ranged, melee, no magic, or stay out of fight.
- Telepathy ring (after certain quest events) that let you warp him to you from anywhere if you are outside, and also warps him to you if you are both in the same interior cell - useful for pulling him out of battle, or out of lava pits!
- Over 1800 unique lines of dialogue for loads of topics and hundreds of cells. He'll give inane running commentaries on quests for Mages, Fighters and Thieves Guilds, and the Tribunal Temple, as well as the Main Quest. If you like companions who shut up and fight, this isn't the mod for you.
- Optional romance, for female characters. Be aware, however, that as well as the pleasant aspects, getting involved can also mean more opportunities for jealousy, screaming arguments and hurt feelings. Put it this way, he's no romantic ideal, but that's not to say he doesn't have his good points. He's not a "boyfriend mod" however, and it's not the main focus.
- An optional female companion, after certain quest events. She's not as "developed" as Julan, but she does have her own "romance" questline for male characters, should you choose to accept it. Be warned, however... she's trouble!
No guarantee of good behaviour! Julan MAY do any or all of the following:
- Disagree with things you say or do. Expect the odd yelling match once in a while.
- Get horrendously drunk.
- Get on badly with your other travelling companions.
- Get on a little TOO well with your other travelling companions.
- Moan about the weather, the location, that he's bored, etc...
- Criticise your choice of faction or quest path.
- Make fun of your choice of headgear.
Note, if you're past the Vivec Informants part of the main quest, this mod is broken. Only use before that, and have fun.
I'll be checking it out, too.

Emma's Quests and Companions
@Raven_Song - I'm now using a Nord girl as a companion (one from the Morrowind Comes Alive mod) together with 2 donkeys from one of Emma's mods. When you used your companion, how could you tell if he/she was injured? The donkey companions tell me when I talk to them but my companion Isolde doesn't tell me

She didn't but then given that I was using her as little more than a meat shield I wasn't overly concerned. I think they have quite high HP's as my Breton took quite a pounding from an MCA added group of skeletons that ambushed me on route to Hla Oad. Perhaps it would be worth checking their script in the CS to see if healing is automatic or something?Raven_Song - I'm now using a Nord girl as a companion (one from the Morrowind Comes Alive mod) together with 2 donkeys from one of Emma's mods. Thanks. I have noticed that she casts a healing spell when she takes a lot of hits so it could be automatic and she always heals herself when she gets to wounded. I would check the CS but I don't have a clue about anything to do with scripts lol. Its not a problem anyway as I have a heal companion spell that I can cast if I'm unsure (and raise my restoration skill at the same time
), I was just wondering if I missed something.

No not really - another rather annoying feature I have found is that there is no way to gage a characters skills, thus making it difficult to know what armour/weapons to give them.I was just wondering if I missed something.
To be honest I've only really been travelling with them for short periods of time, if you want a long term companion you would probably be better off with one of Emma/Grumpy's.
