Heya everybody,
Last year I decided to join the school paper of my high school. Probably to contribute something, probably do to something with my writing skills, which could be somewhere in the area between 'decent' and 'very good' (still have to figure that one out). However, the whole paper is at the moment kind of a failure and the team behind it completely lacks the right spirit. Also, I do not really have good ideas for subjects to write about. I did write some movie reviews last year, but since they do not have very interesting subjects for everyone, and are still way too little to be a good contribution, and since there already is a movie geek in the team (who also writes about it), this is by far not enough. So I've come to ask you if you could just add some ideas and suggestions to help me on the way. Perhaps some things you already read or wrote, or just stuff that pops into your head.
I do not ask for the actual writing of the articles , just some themes/ideas to get me started. That would be really appreciated.

Suggestions for School Paper Articles
Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work. - H.L. Hunt
Just think what happens in your school and are there any notable events. You can also do a poll and ask everyone what they would want in the paper.

Well you have found the right man to help ya. I was in the "Criterion" at my school. Granted our school has more spirit then most schools in the world.
Front page we wrote about big issues. Big things happening in the school, or the US, or the world. Examples, your football team is going to state, iraq war, and columbia disaster.
Our Principle always wrote an article about stuff going on in the school. Our senior editor always wrote whatever was on her mind.
Other stuffs:
Senior stars - two
staff spotlights - cool teachers/new teachers
sports - all of them
top athletes - two
prom
farwell seniors (seniors from the paper that were leaving).
students speaking out - students speaking their minds
variety
writer's block - poems and stuff
school highlights
underclassmen interviews - one for each grade
what happened his day in our school
We voted on all the people ourselves (the class, not school). Man you can do whatever you want. Good luck

Viewer Discretion is Advised
Everybody is not from the US, in this case I think the thread starter is in the NetherlandsJonIrenicus wrote:Big things happening in the school, or the US, or the world.
Apart from the geographical issue, I think JonIrenicus has good basic ideas. We used to have a school paper in my primary school, and it was quite popular although far more focused on polical and educational stuff than JonIrenicus' one.
We used to write about the major world and national news, we used to have political discussions where for instance a group of students with various views of a certain current topic were interviewed and motivated their views, we used to have book reviews and some relationship/sex stuff.

I hear you would have loved the member who long ago posted the unforgettable words: "In the only country that counts...." referring to the USJonIrenicus wrote:What? US is the only country where god loves us, and everybody that is anybody lives here!!!! :garrr:
(No, he was not joking)
