Elder Scrolls III and IV
I just bought both Elder Scrolls III (with the expansions) and IV at the same time. Do I need to do III first in order to really enjoy them to their fullest, or is it okay to do IV first?

All the elder scrolls games are based upon themselves, they each have there own story line that has nearly nothing to do with the other games. ES 4 will mention morrowind at times, but nothing more than saying "I knew a person who worked at an alchemy shop in morrowind, I miss her."
So go ahead and play Oblivion if you want, it has its own story line. Though just for it being the better game, Morrowind I would most definitely recommend you play first.

Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

I second that, I'd play MW for sure first. I think it's a better game for one, but also it'll get you to understand all those neat little references to it in Obl
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

:mischief: The color of night is Black, as the color of Oblivion is red. All live with the fact that Mehrunes Dagon rules, Ye who Closes Shut the Jaws of Oblivion will see the mouth of Oblivion closer than thou can imagine:mischief:
I think Oblivion was a better game except for the main quest. MW main quest was intresting. Oblivion's =
But to fully answer your question no you don't need to play MW to understan oblivion.

Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

MW has the advantage of 5000+ mods out there, now, that can do a ton of things: add quest systems, shops, NPCs, interesting items, homes, spells, dungeons, tweak difficulty levels for harder or easier play, etc. While Oblivion's mod squad has been getting into gear, it's got quite a ways to go. I that in time they may be able to equal what MW's modders have achieved, though Bethsoft hasn't released all the tools for Oblivion use that they did for MW. (It has to do with copyright ownership.) So for now, and I suspect for the next couple of years, MW will remain the more heavily modded game, allowing you to add a lot to personalize the experience.
