a rather disturbing problem

Post by Red_Harvest »

I just got morrowind a couple months ago and almost immediately I started having problems I started like normal everything was fine until you get out into the first town, some of the guards didn't have helmets on which I found to be rather odd and i know these guards were supposed to have them because my friend has morrowind and I remember playing on his computer they all had helmets. then when i sold an assassin mask to the one merchant in town instead of just adding it to his inventory he put it on? but wait things get even stranger! So i started a new game and went out to town and all the guards had their helmets but i went to another town and the guards were missing them there instead and so I started a third game and when i got to the old man after getting of the ship to choose my birthsign and all that it just crashed to a blue screen of death. So there you have it, probably the strangest game experience I have ever had. personally I think there is something wrong with my computer because i can think of about 7-8 games that have acted very strange lately not crashing or anything like that but strange things like certain parts of the actual game not working right.

by the way if anyone knows of anything starforce might do to a computer that would make any of these things happen or what starforce is capable of doing to a computer like what i said above please let me know.

thanks

Could you tell us more about your computer, such as CPU, memory size, graphic card etc. as well as Windows version.
It is difficult for us to answer without knowing what you are using. :)

i dunno about the helmets and stuff, but with the merchant, that was normal. they'll equip just about anything you sell them if they can. that includes weapons(its kind of interesting when a merchant has a bow and no arrows) and enchanted stuff, although if it hurts them i think they take it off. i tried selling one a ring enchanted with CE damage health, but he took it off.

The guards in Caldera never have helmets in my game...

If wearing the helmet increases his AR, he will put it on...

Yeah, all of the stuff except for the crashing sounds normal, and I'd just blame that as a freak occurance, unless it happens regularly.
In memorian: Fiona; Ravager; Lestat; Phreddie; and all of those from the 1500 incident. Lest we forget.

I have both the pc and xbox versions of the game and while merchants will equip non-damaging items in both versions, it's the pc game that is totally whacked and every game I've created for that version has had different bugs/glitches than the previous time around.
I used to think that odd but after reading several message boards it seems commonplace now

Morrowind crashes with everyone I know that plays the game. Both PC and Xbox. Just never seen the blue you're describing.
As for the helmets, even if it is a glitch I dont think its going to bother you when you're playing.
The assasin helmet case has been explained quite nicely so I wont comment on that. :)

Perhaps 15% of guards will not wear helmets. This holds true more often for the guards associated with various houses, rather than Imperials.

then when i sold an assassin mask to the one merchant in town instead of just adding it to his inventory he put it on? but wait things get even stranger!

That's standard: anything you sell to a merchant that's better than whatever they're wearing, they'll. Annoying, isn't it? :D There are a couple of mods on the PC side that remove this problem, but it's part of the code, and definitely not a glitch.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

One thing that might help while you're troubleshooting this is to run in wondow mode (instead of full screen). When I'm in full screen mode if my game encounters an error, the error message pops up behind my game and since it is frozen I can't Alt+Tab out so I have to hard boot my computer. If you run in window mode, the error box will pop on top of your game so you can (1) read the error and (2) close without rebooting.

This won't solve your crashing problem but it might make it easier to troubleshoot and may help prevent the BSoD.

only time xbox version crashed
DARK SAGE wrote:Morrowind crashes with everyone I know that plays the game. Both PC and Xbox.
SPOILER: (highlight below to view)

on the xbox version, the only time i've had a crash was when i tried to summon a daedra using the summon daedra for 1 sec, soul trap for 2 secs on target, without looking at the ground. and also sometimes when i try to remove or put somthing into a summoned creature as they are fading away.
:mischief:Thoughts of chaos calm my soul:mischief:
