Selling Humanity

Post by forgedude »

Ok, I've been pretty much playing Mister Nice Guy (or Vampire). Most of the time I end up with humanity of 9 or 10. But I've been thinking of playing a character that's a little bit more, shall we say, in contact with the Inner Animal.
I could just do random killings to reduce the numbers, but that's not just me. I've heard it's possible to sell humanity for XP. Sounds like a deal, so how do I do this? And if it involves console use, how do I open the console on a heavilly patched (2.7) game?

It does involve using the console. The command is vstats sell humanity n where n is the number of humanity points you want to sell.

To get the concole working, you have to edit your desktop shortcut to the game. Right click on the shortcut and select properties from the menu that pops up. It should be the last option on the list.

In the window that opens, look for a the Target box. There should be a path to the game executable in quotation marks. At the end of that line, outside the quotation marks, add -console

Then start the game by double clicking the desktop icon. When you get to the main menu, the console will already be open. Close it by pressing the tilde (~) key on your keyboard. Now load your saved game.

Once you're in the game, open the console with the tilde key again. Type in the command you want to use. When you're done, close the console with the tilde key. Do NOT close the console by any means other than the tilde key. Doing so can cause your game to freeze.

For a list of all console commands, type cmd_list into the console. There are over 560.

Thanks...

It's just gotten boring to end each game, with all the character's seen and done, as basically a Mother Teresa armed with a selection of automatic weapons and a black belt. I can make better use of XP than that.

Couldn't this be classed as cheating though, as you could simply stay dancing for ages to raise your humanity, then sell the extra points you accumulated, increasing other stats, then dance again......

I know for it to work as a cheat you would need to do it purposefully, and i dont see why selling the odd 1 or 2 would matter, but just thought i would say!

Only if you want to consider it cheating.
By the same reguard you can not consider it cheating, besides it doesn't matter since there is no such thing as cheating in a single player game. :)

By defintion cheating means to cause harm/loss to someone else. ;)
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

By definition, cheating in a singleplayer game is doing something with the code unintended for players by the developers, providing players with unexpected benefits. This is a cheat; simple as that.

But who cares? As long as you don't go around bragging about accomplishing something others did the regular way, you can play the game in any fashion you want. You bought it, it's yours. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

As far as I know, you can only restore a max of 1 Humanity that way.

I read that you can do it once on each dancefloor, so apparently there are a few points which are recoverable.

Out of curiosity, why would you bother raising humanity just to sell it for the xp? Why not just use the console give yourself xp directly? It's a lot less work and you get to keep your high humanity rating.

Just because...

...I could consider it logical that a character who's had some really funky life experiences may have more developed skills, at least in certain areas, but be a bit warped by all those experiences.
By example, ol' Jack, who started off as one of the original Pirates of the Caribbean, having been a pirate in the days of sailing ships, would have had starting off as a vamp higher than average brawl, melee and likely intimidation and shooting skills, as well as having likely very high strength and dex and most likely wits to have survived life at sea in those days. On the other hand his humanity was likely never high to begin with as he had no problem in killing off a ship's crew just to set an elaborate trap.

I see. In this game, that's covered to a certain extent by the histories you can choose at character creation. I'll admit the choice of histories is rather limited, though.

I must admit, i just sold one point of humanity (considering i had full its no big deal!), however i sold one because i made a mistake in the museum and hadnt saved in ages, so i was stuck with 1 dead guard, i missed the exp chance with becket and i missed a few other points in previous quests. I also didnt use books when i could so i wasted experience there!

However, i was only expecting to get 2 or 3 points for it, but i got about 16! I am going to keep them though, as i feel i have earned a treat for being such a 'nice' vampire! I think i will get level 4 dominate (or level 3 fortitude or presence) and improve my ranged feat beyond 7.
