The guy-with-glasses icon is an easter egg which pops up if you have the "use large icons" option enabled in windows, so you don't have to worry about that. You might try patching the game, but I doubt it will solve the problem. It'd probably be better to reinstall the game. ;)

The patch comes as a self-extracting file. When you open it, select your Fallout 2 folder as a target for extraction and the patch should be installed. ;)
BTW, make sure you're installing the right patch, because different game versions (US, European, German, etc.) require different patches.

ok i downloaded the patch as u said and it seems to be working...when i go to main fo2 menu it says 1.02 so thats good but it doesnt help my problem...it still crashes after the elder cinematic but this time i got to see the application error notice in which i wasnt able to b4...it says breakpoint error, a breakpoint has been reached or something like that...i used to get it all the time with diablo 2 but all i had to do was start the game over and load a saved game...u know what this is by chance?

Try to run it in compatibility mode, it helped me with a similar problem with Fallout 1. There is also a possibility that your CD is damaged, so try borrowing another CD from someone to see if that installation would work.

Fallout 2 - a simple game?! How dare you! :D

No, really, try to get it running on some old cranky Win95 computer, it's definetely worth it. :)

No need for that, just play the game in Compatibility Mode, right clicking on the .exe and choosing Windows 95 or Windows 98.

Wise words.
Equalization is good.
Payback isnt.
