Runtime Error.

Post by Alatáriel »

Hi everybody!

Before getting into my problem I might as well make an excusion for my poor english - it's not my first language, but I hope you can all understand me anyway.
I'm a new user here, but have been lurking around for years looking for helpful threads. This is a great place, and I usually find the help I need, and therefore I've never felt the need to register. But now I need help.

I've played BGII several times during the last 5 years, and now I've once again started a new game. I've never had any problems before, but now it seems, that I get a "Runtime Error" every time I try to enter the government district.
I did ofcourse search this forum for useful information and did find a few threads on runtime errors. So I now know, that I might try a scandisc or re-installing the game.

My question, though, relates to my game-cd. could the runtime error be caused by the fact, that there's a very large scratch in my cd? The reason I ask, is that I cannot figure out why this runtime error suddenly occurs after years of playing. Also, I have been to the government district during my current game, but now I cannot get back there. I've even tried a "CLUAconsole" command (MoveToArea), but I still get the runtime error. This morning I accidently dropped the cd on the floor, and now there's a large scratch in it. I don't know if this could be causing the runtime error??

*sigh* so many words, for just one simple question... please have patience with me. Thanks!

/Al

My guess is yes.

On the good side, you can get a new copy for $20.

Copying this to our Tech Support area, but like Mower, I think there's every likelihood your scratch is responsible.

Well, did the run time error start happening after the scratch or prior to it?
I don't know how much information is still on the disc (have you installed full or less then full), so it is difficult to say if it is the scratch playing in - could very well be - or something else you might have installed recently.

What you could do if you have the oppertunity would be to install the game on another computer (friends/second) and see if you can enter the district then? If it reveals the same issue it is almost certainly the disc.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

The runtime error only occured after i dropped the cd on the floor.

Yesterday I tried a scan disc, and it didn't help. So I uninstalled the entire game and wanted to re-install it. Sadly, I cannot re-install now. I get an error everytime I reach cd 2. So it probably has to do with the scratch in the cd. I'm starting to guess, that I have to go and buy a new game :( Previously I had the 'recommended' install, but next time I'll do a full install. Just glad that it's an old game, so I don't have to go and spend lots of money to buy a new one.
