Obfuscate, making it make more sense?

Post by haydox »

To start with i did a search for Obfuscate and found nothing relating to my particular query.

It seems to me that if a vampire were able to make themself invisible, they would, in effect, pause the obfuscate timer when nobody is around for them to hide from.

I was wondering if it was possible to make it so the game pauses the timer (much like when you are 'lurking'), when there is nobody around to see you or if they couldnt see you even if you were just crouched (light meter on 0, traffic light' on green). To me this would make much more sense as there is no point being invisible if there is nobody around to hide from!

Well the problem exist because they made all the passive disciplines last seconds instead of hours, who cares if the timer is running if last as long as your in a level, right?

In the VtM as I understand it passive disciplines last all night, but since we don't have a day and night cycle, it's easier just to make it last as long as your in a level.

You never want to risk changing level or saving while a discipline is active, since loading a save or changing a level while a discipline is active is what causes about 80% of the crashes in Bloodlines.

So basicly you need it on while your in a level and to last, so the two options available are lasting longer and less cost or both.
Not changing the discipline since it would take the source code to do.
Most of the discipline cost and longevity settings are in the Stats.txt in the \system folder the others are located in the 5 disciplinetgt_0-4 text files, also in the \system folder.

Obviously you need your VPK files unpacked to get to these files. :)
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

So what you are saying is, boost the timer so it lasts a few minutes, and if a level change or save is needed hit F8 to end the discipline, then re-apply it (as it only costs 1 blood anyway, the lowest cost as far as i know).

I know where to get the program to unpack those files, but how do i know which value to change?

Edit: Ok, so maybe i dont know where to get the unpacking tool, as all the links in your (Acleacius) thread on custom traits are all dead!

Any help?

I have been having a look and could someone please tell me, in idiot proof instructions, how to make level 5 obfuscate (my current level) last about twice as long, as i feel that 1 minute is more useful), and how to make level 4 and 5 (my current and hopefully next level) Auspex also last about twice as long. I have looked at the files but i cannot make head nor tail of it!

Thanks

Search for this;
"Active Obfuscate"

See these numbers listed, here is an example of level 5;
"Initial_5" "200"
"Add_5" "200"

I set these to 200 for example which means 200 seconds. :)

Does this mean you found the unpacking tool?
Appoligies about the link, in more recent post in that thread I mentioned Turfster has removed/changed the link and to try a Google search.

I see your PM but they seem to have changed it and I don't see a reply button any more, so I just described it here.

Ok, but which file is "Active Obfuscate" in? And do i need to unpack anything to get at it?

Thanks again

Edit: Is it the stats.txt which is in "G:\Vampire - TM Bloodlines\Vampire\vdata\system"?

I have found:

"Initial_5" "26"
"Add_5" "26"

So do i just make this:

"Initial_5" "200"
"Add_5" "200"

And save the stats.txt? If that is right it appears that i dont need to unpack anything!

Ahh, you maybe correct, if you are using the Unofficial patch then there could be one already in your system. :)

I have now changed Auspex and Obfuscate to last 60, 95, 130, 165 and 200 seconds (level dependant), so they go up by 35 seconds each level. I also noticed the 'help text' so i changed the values in there as well.

Just testing it now.

*Possible Spoiler*

Well, they now work great, and the info box also says the correct information.

However, is it possible to make it so those irritating 'head-walkers' cannot see me when i have obfuscate active?
I dont see why they can see me, as in the video they didnt see the woman until she turned the light on, so its not like they have thermal vision!
