how do i kill them he goes down and get back up. i try to hit him with things and they just dont do any damage.
Fire and acid Spells/abilities. A Mage with Burning Hands, Agannazar's Scorcher, Flame Arrow, Fire Ball, Melf's Acid Arrow, flasks of oil, et cetera.
The "best" is Scorcher as you stand where you can torch several trolls at once. The bit to watch for is that it moves along with your target and it hurts everyone and everything in it's path. Fireball isn't exactly the best at taking down Trolls in close combat, but if you're lucky you should be able to wipe them, and their allies out, at long range. Acid Arrow is good to cast before you knock them down because it deals Acid damage every other round or something, so when they're knocked down there's no need to cast another Spell.
Flame Arrow is sort of like Magic Missile, and Burning Hands is a burning Colour Spray, kinda (Forgotten how the Spell plays out).
But there's a few examples about how to kill Trolls... of course, Acid Arrows/Fire Arrows kill them as well, but my personal favourite is Agannazar's Scorcher. It takes skill to use, and it's just so cool a spell not to use!
The Trolls keep getting back up because of a thing called Regeneration. It heals them and makes them pretty much invulnerable to all but Fire and Acid attacks, which burn their wounds closed and effectively, fluffwise, stops them from Regenerating.

Wanted to add arrows and bolts of fire/flame (forget the exact name) and corrosive bolts and acid arrows. These are not spells like Flame Arrow but ammunition for bows and crossbows. You will find them at various times as treasure or loot. You can have someone with a bow or crossbow (as appropriate) hit the troll with one of those to finish it off after you have put it on the ground. Since the fire/acid damage only has to be the last damage done, the few extra points of damage those types of ammo do is enough to permanently kill it.
