Firedrakes. How Do I kell thedm
Firedrakes. How Do I kell thedm
Need help killing Firedrakes. I have Fire Wards which protect me for the most part from their fire, but I don't seem to be able to hurt them enough to kill them?
There was another post here that said something about using blast nova to kill them..I think it said to use blast nova and then go into either save screen or another of the pause screens, since magic cast before the pause screen still hits..Of course, if they get their breath weapon off before you go into the pause screen, it will do damage to you also..I am headed to the drakes next to hopefully it works..

nasty fire drakes
i have killed 6 or 7 now and took them all down with my bow,,,if their in the open just keep moving to the side,,the drake will always miss you with his fire,,, if not just run into the trees and find a spot where you see him but he doesn;t see you ,,you can just keep hitting him with your bow or spells until he dies,,

I also asked in my previous topic, and finally found best method based on my character.
fighter, mage, deathlord, level 32.
1. fire ward is a must, then combine it with blast nova (v usefull if other creatures<poisoned especially> are around), iceball and ice nova also good.
2. combo weapons of no-dachi and kama flame or winter dagger.
I spent 2 fire ward, 2 blast nova, 1 ice nova. Occasionally hide behind tree.
Still figuring out how to lure the last dragon (in egg's mission) to came down from the hill.
Any ideas what spell can be produced from her teeth

Nothing personal, but you all are wimps. The question was asked how do you kill Firedrakes, not how to slaughter them in the least amount of blows.
I personally, when melee'ing (or just using a crappy mage-based character), I use Fire Ward while running around in small circles right directly in front of the drake waiting for its breath attack to end then get in some blows under its belly. If its on the ground I do the same approach, except hit it in the head. If its in the air and won't come down...I have to resort to long range methods. If I have many magic long range spells at my disposal I'll fling them until I run out...if I'm poor on equipment and spells and the drake is still in the air...I use petty, poor damage bows/daggers/shurkens.
Eventually it dies.
And if you are poor and at the start of the game...just fight the drakes on easy mode...you don't need to pretend to be a hero fighting it on Normal and Hard modes. Hell, I cheat many times and fight the drakes on easy even when my character is buffed...save and exit out to the main screen when the drakes health is low...switch the mode to Hard mode...load the game back up with a low health drake and finish it off for extra, extra experience points. Cheating...maybe...saving time from killing 1,500 rats equivalent to the extra experience between Easy Mode Drake and Hard Mode Drake...priceless.

I just successfully killed my first fire drake using the following method:
I play as a Zaur with a Fighter/Rogue/Marauder/Trickster/Deathlord build. Awesome melee potential and the only school of magic with a learning bonus is Nether(though that's no reason not to learn a little of the rest of the schools).
Started out by casting Ward of Fire for protection, then using three charges of Summon Deathlord in a row(though two or one might have been good enough, I wanted to win) to create a diversion. While the drake was concentrating on trying to cook up the three ninja looking guys in front of it, I snuck around behind it, fired up Blade of Baal, and wailed away on it till it dropped. Dual Weapons, Inflict Wounds, Backstab and Blade of Baal meant that overall the fight only took around one minute, though it was probably overkill.
p.s. The experience reward was so impressive that I think I'll try looking into making the fire drake breeding grounds my new training location. If the gain is impressive enough I might just restart my character. I will admit that I'm playing a character that was very slightly tweaked in the editor a bit. I gave myself the Shuriken of Night after being cheated out of it due to being version 1.4. I then also gave my skills a boost to meet the requirements for Deathlord which I feel wasn't very well thought through. If I hadn't I'd have had to spend probably well over 10 million adv points.

It looks like overkill to me. I'd almost want to take the "John Henry Tests" with you "Man versus machine". I'd wager that I can beat up 8 Moonbeasts (~160K ADV) on Easy Mode faster than you can kill 1 Firedrake (160k ADV) on Easy Mode. I have learned how to destroy Moonbeasts faster than they breed...seeing how I've fought over 20,000 of them with all my different character's fighting styles (bare fists of ninjitsu, dual wielding, light/heavy polearms, magic of the arcane, magic of the celestial, even mastering the reigns of hawkeyes cast down from the skies from a mere simpleton's bow and its arrows). In melee combat if you can keep "Overhead chops" with your weapon, you can inflict so much damage that the enemy doesn't even get a recover time to block. It's hard to continously keep jumping and completing the "Over-the-head Chop" as it takes precision and balance. I have found that Moonbeasts don't spawn fast enough for my reign of pain...even in (Difficulty Mode: Hard, Spawn Mode: Hard)...the damn local fish spawn over the side of the west mountain side...where I have to flush them out by going to the north side waterfront (one good thing about fish traveling over land in this game is that I can flush them out...so that more Moonbeasts can spawn). What can I say...I'm a Moonbeast slayer and hunter and I know thier region of life better then they know of thier own demise in front of my legion of attacks. I have hunted Moonbeasts spending over a 150 hours hunting them...to build my character up.Ganthan wrote:...then using three charges of Summon Deathlord in a row(though two or one might have been good enough, I wanted to win) to create a diversion. Firedrakes are unneccessary and inefficient when you can slaughter twice as many ADV points-equivalent with Moonbeasts as you could with killing one Firedrake.
If anything needs an ADV boosts in this game, it's those damn rats...and those peckers can hit you just as hard as goblins and ninjas even with your +60 parry and you can still whiff at them rats with your +50strike. That to me is an injustice.
My other hunting grounds is in the Northern Steppes...where Ice Worms (18k ADV) and Borloths, Giant-Mutated-Bears (18k ADV) spawn and are easy to beat up. Plus there is a fireplace to recharge yourself should you specialize in spells.
I hate fighting the Minotaur when he spawns with a shield in Skulldoon as it can make the ADV points come in a lot slower when he blocks your attacks. But, its the only way Tricksters and Hunters can get their ADV points to get their 2nd tier classes...unless you visit the Northern Steppes to fight Ice Worms and Borloths.
The Poison Worms (with AoE poison) are impossible to fight without long range specializing tactics...as their poison cloud attack makes it impossible to fight them in close-courters. And even if they are worth 21k ADV in Easy Mode, there not worth fighting unless you have many points into the respective magic skills that you specialize in and also have an abundance of spells and either and/or a fireplace or the respective skill of magic regeneration (channel or scribe).
The enemies found in the Vale of Ruins are all strong and generally worth many more ADV points than many of the enemies of these Dungeon Lord Lands...but, the land structure makes it hard to fight in...with the bad land terrain...where you get stuck in hole fixtures...you can get murdered if you get stuck in a hole and your whole fighting tactix involves being able to move around. It's like having a football team that prides itself on its running and speed and has to play on a soaked field while it is still percipitating (snow/rain).
Therefore, I believe that Firedrakes are not entirely worth it...that is I guess if you are playing from the legitamite perspecive of not using any kind of editors and that of just playing the game naturally.
It's too bad that the game didn't have proper balance of its spells systems. The buying and selling of spells (or any shop item) was misused in this game and created by its unforgiving programmers. Did they (Heuristic Park, D.W. Bradley) not think about their own MoonBridge portals that you can do Marco-Polo's with instantaneous ease (travel afar, instant-transmission, to sell and buy to your advantage...makes you want to just cause anarchy within the game and destroy all capitalistic entities)?
Again, I apologize if my wind is too long and if it seems foul, but it is my winds and I breath them in and out as I exist. Thanks for the webspace, to allow my thoughts to exist beyond my personal self.

Moonbeasts are whimpy
true your moonbeasts spawn fast and there are more of them in the collectors edition especially on the more - hard mode when they are worth 25K+ a peice.. But if you want a challenge people tend to go to the firedrake breeding grounds and kill off the dragons on more - hard mode for 250K+ per dragon on more - hard mode.. (Played completely through this game 52 times already) And I have played every class combination and race available and they al have good and bad points... It's just a matter of picking your personal favorite.

Easy. I use a Dwarven Winter Axe (I found it in the chest above the tavern in skuldoon) and when my attack finishes I move foward, thus slowing it's attack and then attacking again. I can kill one without taking hardly any damage. I also use a Dragon Shield and Chainmail Pro Fire, but I never make use of them.
I kill fire drakes with ice attack or cataclasym. For protection against fire i use a ward of fire or if i have it, a ring of protection. Cataclasym is the easiest way of killing them because it hits something like 3 100s in a row but it costs 10k gold per spell. Most of the time i use ice attacks and just dodge the fire balls the drake shoots.

-Firedrakes (hardmode, in version 1.5CE) are worth ~210K.Iceman1963 wrote:true your moonbeasts spawn fast and there are more of them in the collectors edition especially on the more - hard mode when they are worth 25K+ a peice.. -Firedrakes don't spawn to well in the Roost...as I get tons of spiders, snakes, scorpions spawning instead. Is there a specific area in the roost that always spawns Firedrakes.
-I have figured out how to always spawn Moonbeasts on Moonbeast Island without any other enemy spawnings (face North-East to the North-Eastern Ground slope...and you will not get fish spawning nor wolves, nor drey elves, nor ninjas, nor mushrooms, nor witches/zombies, nor bees, nor red-worms, nor snakes...you will always get quick spawnings of Moonbeasts.
-Moonbeast are actually more of a challenge as they usually overwhelm you in clusters...and it is fun to break out Area of Effect Attacks (melee/magically)...or just go head to head one at a time, while weeding one from the pack. I really do earn ADV/EXP faster by spawning/killing Moonbeasts. I should know, I've slaughtered over 20,000 of them (at least) with all my dozen plus characters. Firedrakes, at first are fun, but wane as they are suspeptible to ice-attacks and bleeding and stunning...and so are not that much of a challenge.
-My Lv50_Hatamoto can kill a Firedrake in about 15 seconds with just dual wielding [Totemic Runemace] and [Kama of the Moon]...and sometimes I can kill them in under 10 seconds if I use the tomahawk-chop attack perfectly...and also Inflict-Wounds/Bleeding/Stunning is going on...and occassionally an instant kill happens when Firedrake health is low (Critical Hit occurs). But, the darn Firedrakes usually don't spawn continuously...all the while all other poisonous creatures hardly worth the fight keep spawning in the Roost.
-I had forgotten how much of a killer dual wielding was...as I was using Heavy Polearms and Bows and Ninjitsu characters lately...and those fighting styles are weak in comparison to the Samurai/Hatamoto.

I am currently on a quest to up my level. I only have the maze and the finale to go and I was at level 31. I am not into the editors etc. and I kill most of what I see, but to begin with I was very get more powerful. I am playing a mage/wizard thingy and she rocks. I can kill a fire drake with two cataclysm spells and usually take no damage. Only problem is I can't seem to spawn them. I went to the moonbeast island and I had just as much trouble spawning them, so I am going to try your suggestion.
Any ideas on how to spawn more fire drakes? Or where I can find them? Their breading grounds so far have got me to level 35, but now I am finding I need millions to level up my character. Blah any other ideas on how to level up? I try running around with my blast nova killing everything I see but the minor things! I need big things. haha
Thanks!

I know the feeling. I have raised about half-a-dozen characters from levels 50 to 80, and yes, it takes forever when beating up on Moonbeasts. You must have a high level threshold for the insanity before you can kill ten's of thousands of enemies.Enchantra wrote:Only problem is I can't seem to spawn them. The game needs to spawn enemies continously with 200k to 400k more frequently. Drakes once in awhile, just doesn't cut it. I wouldn't mind having mini-bosses being spawned more often with groups of regular monsters. (Sort of like when a Visgoth...Zaur, Wylvan, or Urgoth Renegade gets spawned as a miniboss amongst its Thrall minions...except make this mini-boss more challenging than a firedrake and make it worth the while in ADV/EXP...say like 200k to 400k). That would be nice.
Also, is there anyway to spawn firebeast (Red Moonbeasts) in the Vale of Ruin...or was there only one of them in the entire game? I think it was worth a little more than 50k, but I can't remember as I was swarmed by those witches spraying posion clouds. Vale of Ruin is a good place to up your EXP/ADV...and get money. The Forbidden Lands is good (next to a fireplace) to earn EXP/ADV, as well as money and spellbooks. If you have a healthy supply of magic spells and your Scribe is at 12-15...then maybe you don't need fire places or more spells. In that case, I guess your done playing this game...because the challenge is gone.

Ahh well at level 35 I sucked...I was at like 20 arcane magic and as a magic character my melee attack is so weak. So I like my blast nova's and cataclysms. I went to moonbeast island and found that if I stood at the shrine and faced north to north west, I could spawn the moon beasts. Sometimes in groups of 2 and sometimes in the 8's. I had fun! I spent a while there until I was at level 70, then I was so over it.
So I went to the northern steeps and wandered around the forbidden lands and I have hardly gained any experience since leaving the island. So I am off to the maze to finish the game! I am at level 35 for arcane magic, I saved up all my money and bought loads of spells, sold up my inventory and I am ready for the finale!
Thanks for the tips! E

firedrakes: killing them is simple
I usually go to the firedrake breeding grounds at level 8 with a bunch of freeze spells or ice shard spells and pick out a dragon and freeze him out
of the air. Then chop on him a while with my weapons until I see him start
to unthaw, then freeze him again. Repeat. Or zap him with ice shard spells
one after another until he dies. usually takes about 60 or 70 on normal play
with arcane magic at 8 or 9. get my 300,000 experience points. I don't
level up until after I kill all the drakes. I go to the campfire and wait till I
get all my spells back between dragons. If I'm a fighter type, I wait until
I get a ice weapon and just whack em until they die.

Took out my first Firedrake at level 9 with an Elven long bow and archery level 3...it took me about half an hour, but it was worth it for the several hundred thousand experience points, at a time when they were very useful (just got heavy armour/weapons/shield available). After the first one, I saw four others hanging around nests, and decided one was enough for now.
