i decided to go back to old games i never finished, and LH was one of them.
so, i tend not to be able to docide what character i want to play to the point i never finish a game becuase i restart it too many times and get tired of it.
this time i want to actualy finish it, so i need some advice on what sort of character i should make.
i cant choose between a melee (shield + one handed) and a mage of sort. i cant seem to remeber what the wielder's wand (it was a wand right?) does- shoot or beat or what?
if i choose a mage i think ill take necromancy+ice, if i choose melee i dont know what ill take.
just tell me what you like and ill copy it or something..
advice

There are other threads on this topic that you might like to look for and read. They are not far down the page!
Meantime:
Ranged is the best weapon skill, even though you can't use a shield.
I, personally, like the Demokin race. Not the best for Magic, having less Mana than Sylvant (but more than the other races), but having greater Endurance and, iirc, greater Strength (though attributes are adjustable to some degree).
If you use Demokin, you need to be careful when choosing Racial Trait: I like Forked Tongue, because although it reveals that you are 'tainted', it also gives you a nice boost to Speech - which can be invaluable in certain situations! You DO get a -5 to all combat skills, but it will only matter for one you choose - and can be remedied by selection of Perks. If you choose any optional traits, make sure they DON'T affect your weapon skill badly!
If you choose Sylvant for the Mana, then I would suggest Polyelemental Ancestry as Racial Trait, since it adds 10% to all elemental, poison and disease resistances. However you suffer a 5% reduction to crushing, piercing and slashing resistances. Again, this can be remedied by Perks, and possibly by Optional Traits.
I don't remember what the Wand does. I THINK it counts as a two-hand melee, but don't quote me. It's been a long time since I played

hmm..
well i think ill take the pure blood, i dont like to be "held back" (i tend to take neutral something in D&D games), unless i choose to take a mage, then ill probably take the syl some thing (the magic race).
for the class, i just dont know.. i think ill go with the knights templar, though for role playing reasons, i am compelled to go with the wielders ( hence the magic branches).
i did notice many people complaining about the magic users inability to survive a fight, and i didnt like the bow and crossbow in LH ( something is wrong with the animation, i just cant stand it). so, i gather that if im not about to use a bow i shouldnt take the mage, right? what branches and spirit should i take with either one of the possibilities?

Actually, being 'tainted' makes very little difference; some NPCs aren't very friendly, but it never held any of my chars back. But each to their own.
Mage or Knight Spirit magic... well, imo, Smite and Fortitude branches are both very good. The Celestial Smite spell is pretty near as good as having a Bow and arrows - except you need the mana for the spell and you don't with Ranged. Fortitude has the Healing spells, of course, so is very handy...
I would also be inclined to put some points into Tribal Protection, just to get Absorb Spirit - VERY useful when you are out of healing juice!
And Thought Lightning or Thought Ice.
Magic users are fine with fighting if you have a good character build. Give him/her One-Hand Melee if you don't like Ranged. That way you can have a shield to help with protection. Ok, I know it isn't PURE Mage; so, if you don't want to go that way, concentrate on Divine Protection branch!
I have a Mage in Oblivion trotting around dungeons in a pretty frock...
