Help with expansion!

Post by Sivany »

I've just installed the expansion pack Tales of the Sword Coast and I'm having a major problem. I don't seem to be able to access any of the expansion areas. I can see where Ulgoth's Beard is on the map and I've gone to the area North of Baldur's Gate, but it won't let me head across to the new area. I've also tried to access it from other areas but nothing seems to be working.

Is it possible this is something to do with the point I am up to in the game? I loaded in one of my newest saved game where I am in the Thieves Maze, will I have to complete the game before I can access the new areas? Unfortunately none of my save games are from before revisiting Candlekeep and being arrested so I can't test if being part way through the end of the plot is the problem.

If it is that I will have to complete the plot first them my other problem is that I can't get past the enemies near the place where there is 3 traps in a row. I was hoping the expansion pack would allow me to gain more experience points! (Dynaheir has been stuck on 89000 xp since just after I entered Baldur's Gate for the first time, and not for lack of fighting either!)

You have to do the expansion areas *before* you complete the game. You should be able to access Ulgoth's Beard in the chapter you are in as that is where I was when I did it.

What happens when you walk to Ulgoth's Beard?
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

You're saying that the ulgoth's beard is grey on the map?
You should be able to enter there if you go north from the bridge just before baldur's gate.

Help with expansion

The other way to get there is via Durlag's tower. Go North from the carnival and you get to the tower. I think that you can then get to Ulgorth's Beard from there, but am not sure.
