Your most immersive and intense game experience (spoilers all over the place)

Post by dragon wench »

I never thought I'd say this about Morrowind, but I just had an extremely immersive gaming experience :D

My character is a largely unarmored Bosmer at level 8. Because she has a companion (Julan) closely associated with the Main Quest...that is what she is currently working on.
Well... My Bosmer and Julan just managed to get out of Kogoruhn by the skin of their teeth. As they are pretty low level their strength is not high.. So, it did not take long for both to be profoundly burdened by treasure. Worse than that though...those monsters at so early a stage of character development are tough! And...using Light Based Sneaking...the shadows were menacing all about, each step was literally fraught with peril. My Bosmer's Sword of White Woe soon ended up in ill repair, and she had to use a spear she came across in a most grisly prison cell. Not being very well versed in spear use... meant that those ash slaves and dagoths did not fall quickly. Exhaustion threatened to overcome the pair.
But, finally, the last necessary token was found. However, by this point the two intrepid heroes could not move because they were so laden with stuff... A teleport to Ald Ruhn was required.

lol! The whole thing was, in fact, quite gripping, and I think I breathed a serious sigh of relief when the Ald Ruhn temple came into view. :D

Anyone else ever had that happen, where you become so engaged that you actually feel as though you're "there." :speech:
Hmmm....doing the MQ at a low level with a very lightly armored character definitely has its merits

Here is one

lol  Yes, to tell you the truth I've had many. One of mine involved luck, a shield, and medium range block skill about 45. Here is the story:

I entered a cave and through the first door I went. Being use to playing a high level character I ignored the "Trapped Door" caution that appeared momentarily (I put a delay on the help text that is linked to looking at objects, that way, it almost seems like you have to anylze the object before you realize what it is) and it poisoned me. Assuming it would wear off soon and that I could use my enchanted shirt I made (Remedy) to restore my health afterwards, I continued through the door.

To my suprise there was an Orc with orcish armor on, whom almost instantly attacked me! "Alright, lets go!" I said in a cocky tone. The poison still hasn't worn off. BAM! I take a hit. CHINK! Another. The well made Nordic Claymore was doing heavy damage. With an inch of my life left I quickly go to my menu. "OK, first lets stop the poison, then my last quality restore health potion, and finally lets select my summon Golden Saint spell from the spell list; now I'm ready"

As soon as I exited the menu screen I jumped over my enemy and ran around the corner of the cave and rotated simultaniously to face my opponent. STEEWWAAHKEEWEW! My Golden friend was then in service to me for 40 seconds. The poison stops and my life returns completly. I then pulled out my "Daedric Mace of Comfort" (absorb health 20 pts on touch in 5 ft, cast when strikes) I was watching in laughter as the Orc twitches back with every blow from the summoned creature, only to get in a few quick minor hits. Then I observed my controller vibrating, the screen flashing red, and the sound of magic being cast. I knew I was being attacked from behind, only something was wrong, I WAS PARALYZED! By the quick thrusts and low damage I was certain that it was a short blade.

The thought of my Golden Saint returning from whence it came led me to beleive that I may not escape. After being hit over and over and paralysis consuming me with every hit, the charge of the Jinx blade wore out. Five seconds passed and I smashed that N'wah to the ground, draining health with every swing and taking it all to myself. I then realized that the 5ft range of the spell was hitting my demonic pet and it turn to face me. Three against one, not good!

The Golden Saint seemed to be confused as it now had three enemies to deal with swinging at whom was closer. The Jinx Blade smuggler groaned and cursed as life past out of her corpse. That instant, the summon spell wore out. I was vulnerable from the back and the Orc took the shot. I was down! If I got hit one more time from that position I would have been a rotting piece of Dunmer flesh.:speech:

Luck had to be working in my favor, because he then missed twice. I stood up, and flipped around. My shield raised and blocked his blade; I swung. Direct hit! Life was returning. I blocked again. The last hit silenced the Orc for good returning more life into me. Feeww! That was intense. :p

There have been other times that I felt as if I was "in the game" but most of them had something to do with my "State of mind". Lots of fun though. :D
:mischief:Thoughts of chaos calm my soul:mischief:

Here's mine

I just started playing a couple weeks ago; this the first time I went to the Urshilaku camp, I was 5th or 6th level, not sure, but around there, a dark elf spellsword. I'm trying to get back to Maar Gan, it's one of those wicked storms where you can't see much. I'm lost and and it seems every way I go in the direction of Maar Gaan, there's mountains that I can't get over. I'm trying to find the trail I took to get there, but I got lost on the way up, and found the camp by luck, so I can't find it, so I try going west over the mountains, but that's no good. The whole time there's low level monsters attacking me, which I can kill, but my weapons and armor are getting ruined. For weapons, all I had was an Icicle long blade and a Spark long blade, and they're nearly done. I have to keep alternating between them for the one that might have a charge in it, because by now I'm not doing much damage with them.

So, I make my way south, nearly dead, with nearly useless weapons and cracked armor, and in the storm I see a campfire. I'm saved, I think to myself. Someone I can ask for directions.

So I approach this campfire. There's two guys standing there. I go to try and start a conversation. But when they see me, they start running at me to attack. There was no way I could survive against them.

So I turn and run away from them. So now I'm lost in this storm with these two guys chasing me.

I chance upon an egg mine and my swords have recharged, and my healing ring has gotten me to about a quarter health. So I turn and make my stand. Luckily, one has run ahead of the other so I get to fight them one on one. I kill them, then walk around for like another couple of hours in the storm, worn out, frustrated, I realize I've walked right back to the egg mine, because I see the corpses. But the storm has let up by now and it turns out the mine was very close to a stilt rider service, so I finally get out of there. Intense.

My most immersive playing time was probably this one time where I went(at like level 10) to Red Mountain.

I decided to levitate in(big mistake) and obviously, I ran out of mana on my way in. I then figured there was nothing interesting there(first time playing) and I had to book it home...only to learn that I had no Scrolls of Recall, Intervention of anything. Nor did I have the mana for any of my spells, and there were a lot of enemies preventing sleep.

So there I was, trudging across the landscape, slowly collecting more and more enemies on my ass and being completely unable to turn and face them(mage out of mana and mana potions). Then came the kicker, I got diseased and they closed on me, I am not too sure how I managed to survive the run out to Ghostgate, but somehow I got there(no boots of speed either!) and escaped back to town.

Super fun it was.
Finally running a decent computer!

I clearly remember trying to sneak past all of those werewolves in Hircine's maze in my first game. When I was discovered and attacked I actually squeaked - in a high pitched, yet manly way.

Finding Azura's. God, was that frustrating but being the stubborn person that I am I decided to do it in one go, didn't want to turn off the game. I must have gone in circles dozens of times, I think I was cursing like the worst dock worker by then and pulling my hair out. Then, finally, I manage to get in and there's that cut-scene - I was blown away. Totally lost, it was like I was there. I still love that part best.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Thats one of my favourite parts too :)

I quite often get immersed into a game as I love to roleplay my characters. I love exploring Daedric Ruins in one go, not knowing what is around the corner, then struggling to carry all the loot out again :)

major main quest spoilers here

wow... it sounds fun to explore at low level. i should try that sometime. anyway, to the question, it was the first time that i was fighting dagoth ur. armed with chitin armor, my ddk, and the trusty amulet of admonition. i found dagoth ur in the first room, and i killed him really easily. i was thinking "sweet! this is gonna be easy!" and then i ran into the next room, and he was back. i charged at him with my ddk ready to swing. i get a big hit on him, and on his health bar, his health went down by about half. but, right after that, it went right back up to full! i swung and swung at him, but every time the same thing happened. finally, i realized that the "immortal god" part meant "immortal" not hard to kill. (that seems kinda stupid, but it always seems like nothing is immortal in games.) all the time, he was destroying me with spells, and by now i was almost dead. i took a quick health potion, and hit him with my amulet of admonition. the spells stopped, and my health went back up. i started running down the path, ignoring the creatures on the sides of me, chasing me. thankfully, my boots of blinding speed saved me there. i kept running until i got to a bridge, and saw a strange little heart-like thing hanging there. "its the heart!" i thought, and i ran towards it. behind me, dagoth ur was rid of paralysis and chasing me. i ran across the bridge and assaulted the heart. by the time i hit it twice with keening, dagoth ur was breathing down the back of my neck, launching horrible spells at me. i turned around, pulling out my ddk. i took a swing, and he fell down with about 3/4 health. it didn't come back! excited, i hit him across the back twice with the ddk, killing him. behind me, the giant thing started collapsing, and i ran as fast as i could, once again ignoring the ash creatures. i got to the door, and it was behind a barrier! i looked around, panicking, for some kind of switch. finally, i found it, got out, and was rewarded with an amazing cutscene, and a ring. that is my most immersive experience ever.

I have to actually, but I'll start with: REVENGE!

If you know me well enough, you know that I lust for power and recognition in the world of Morrowind. In order to obtain power, I am willing to steal anything or kill anyone that gets in my way. It all started back during the heartfire missions. After being instructed by Casades that I should join a faction, I chose the temple. Having arrived in the temple of Ald-Ruhn, something caught my eye. It was a blessed shield. I promptly stole it and decided to sell it for a hefty price. After being caught, and serving my time in prison I returned to the temple to make amends. Having done so, I continued with my game. Many days past and I arrived in the city of Mournhold. Much stronger (and wiser) now, I completed each quest assigned by Almalexia (sp?) and finished the tribunal part of the GOTY edition. As some of you may recall, Almalexia requires you to kill one of her hands and if you're anything like myself, you took some of his armor. Anyways, I spoke to a high ordinator, was attacked for possesion of the armor and killed many of them as a result. Apparently, this was against the temple rules because when I returned, I was turned away before I could ask for work. I tried to make amends, but they told me I was nothing to them. After all my accomplishments? All that I've done for these people and they turn me away, just like that? I don't think so. My speechcraft being very high, I taunted Almalexia's lackey into attacking me and killed him on the spot. At that moment I vowed to destroy the temple and all who follow it. I traveled to every city, and killed every enchanter, every alchemist, anyone who happened to be in the building. It took three days, but I made it happen.
You can always become stronger in Morrowind, but it's never enough. PM me if you know what I'm talking about.

Number Two: Destroy world order!

I'll keep this one right to the point. One of my characters, a dark elf named Outlaw, has no ambition other than to bring down the imperial legion, and any other faction or great house that protects a city. Equiped with an enchanted daedric claymore called the raze of chaos (35 points fire damage in four feet) and the ebony schimitar freeze (20 points paralysis for 10 sec. in 2 feet) I decided to begin my attack on Fort Moonmoth, then work my way into other forts and major cities. After 3 months, every authority figure in Vvardenfell (save for the guards that respawn) was dead, and I made my way to Soltshiem (sp?) Boy did I have a surprise waiting for me when I got there. Guards were so frenzied they were running out to the docks to kill me. I ran into the fort to somewhat close them all in, and archers were jumping, that's right, jumping, off of their turrets and the fort's walls just to get to me! Do you understand that? People were commiting suicide in hopes that their corpses would do some kind of damage to me! After witnessing this, I was so taken aback that I was hit from behind by eight or nine guards and got cornered in the well. Stupidly, I had not checked the condition of my weapons before I entered this battle. The claymore killed two guards before it was done and the schimitar was broken! With nothing to defend myself, I activated a scroll of icarian flight and landed somewhere in the Grazian plains. Now, hand to hand was one of my major skills, but I had not yet honed it to perfection. (it was at 23) Anyways, I was walking along when I encountered my very first spriggan. It took ten minutes just to kill it and this raised my hand to hand by 7 points. I turned around and began to walk away when I heard a noise. You guessed it, the spriggan had risen. (I didn't know about their mulitple lives at the time) I was all "WTF man? W T F?" I beat it down again, raising my skill another two points. THANK GOD that was over. I turn around, yet again, and hear the same f***** noise! Having killed it one final time, 1 more hand to hand point was mine. I slept, taking advantage of the level increase and made the journey to skaal, in hopes of repairing my weapons. When I arrived, I was turned away because I "was not skaal". As you can imagine, I was pretty upset. Hopefully, these guys didn't have three lives. I killed the black smith and took some repair prongs as my own. Sadly, armorer is not Outlaw's forte. It took three sets of prongs to repair the claymore not even halfway. The schimitar didn't get jack. Anyways, I go outside, and a little disgruntled, I kill an honor guard and break my weapon on another one that attacks me. Of course, I seized the nordic mail and claymore the guy had on him and fled the villiage. I entered a cave, not too far from fort frostmoth. The guy in there, I'm not too sure what he did, but when he was done with me, my armor and weapon had disintigrated. I took his mantle of woe, and at this point finding it pointless to try and gain another weapon, honed my hand to hand to 100 percent. After several level increases and few dead spriggans later I decided to return to fort frostmoth and beat down every single guard outside. Donning some of those horny fist gloves, I entered the fort, and knocked over a female breton with a sneak attack. I killed her before the other guards could come to her aid, jumped into the air and leapt at the nearest imperial after just four hits, he was down, and I killed him as quickly as I could. Five guards to go. I jumped on top of the well, shot a paralyze spell at one of the guards and took his imperial ass down. Only four to go. I reactivated the horny fist gloves, shot another paralyze spell at the nearest guard, and took his pal behind him 7 hits, he's on the ground 6 hits, he's dead. 3 to go. The one I had paralyzed was free by now, and the other two guards were coming down the stairs (it was hilarious, they were screaming "I can't take anymore" and "Help, guards!") I take a look at my health bar at this point, it's low, really low. So I drink a couple cheap restore health potions and my thumb slips and somehow, I wind up in apparel. Of course! Why didn't I see it before? I had fashioned a daedric cuiriass which I named Bladeruster (sp?) to disintigrate weapons! I jumped back on top of the well and equiped it. After being hit five times by the same guard I had paralyzed, his weapon was gone. Time for fisticuffs, pal. It was time to see who was the better boxer. It turned out to be me, because after just two hits, he was on the floor and he didn't even try to get back up. Two more to go. The final two guards advanced and I paralyzed one of them, and waited for the weapon of the other to disintigrate. Once it did, the paralyzed guard was aroused, and as soon as his weapon was gone, it was time for a little two on one. The rest, as they say, is history. Sorry it was so long, but I loved every second of it. (except the damn spriggan!)

I remember when I first started Morrowind and was released, I was very much unarmed and broke as the goats nest. After wandering about town a bit and selling what I could, one of the tips that constantly reappeared was "You can kill bandits and collect their treasure without getting in trouble". The second thing that was on people's lips was "Someone should do something about those bandits near the Stilt Strider".

Well being low in cash and need of experience I decided I would be the one to do something about those bandits.

I wandered around and after fighting some Kwarmas managed to actually find the cavern and entered, the first guy was pretty tough, considering the weapon I was using was not actually one I was proficient with. It took lots of running around, and drinking anything to raise my stats but I actually managed to kill the guy and got my first suit of armour and equipment. I used all my magicka trying to heal and progressed on.

I reached a point in the cavern where the area forked, I walked into the middle and turned one way trying to evaluate the better route, then when I turned around I jumped out of my skin to find a red eyed bandit creeping up behind me. Immediately I tried to cover the distance between us and stab him with my knife but one spell and he knocked stone dead. I load the game and try again, only to slowly find out that there is no way suffer a direct or even an indirect hit.

After a bit of thought, I wondered if the bandit mage had Magicka problems like myself. My next tactic began with me slowly walking into his view, "You N'wah" he yelled (not sure what that meant I stood dumb founded). He began casting and I turned and sprinted for dear life. The spell blasted into the wall and the mage chased me down quite quickly. The mage was much faster than I and he also began casting another spell. I quickly ran up more stairs and the spell exploded on the lower steps. I suddenly realised I had somehow gotten stuck while the mage scurried up behind me. I wiggled, jumped and jiggled just as the mage started casting another spell. I freed myself and ran to the top of the stairs, not wanting open the door and find myself with possibly more opponents, I decided to double back and jump from the top of the stairs leaving the mage cussing it's wierd insults at me. Not having many options I tried again to double back but a spell caught me and I melted.

Again I loaded and repeated the same tactic except without getting stuck on some invisible step and manage to get out the door. The mage casted spells and spells untill finally the mage pulled out a dagger and started chasing after me. I grinned a huge grin and happily matched pathetic weapons with him. Thankfully I was a little better in hand to hand weapons than he and after a long drawn out battle felled him with my pathetic attempts.

Man was that the most pathetic fight ever, a little khajit jumping, running and dodging while a mage tried to hit him with spells, it's just silly to think back on.
