Need advice, new party and game experience

Post by Jolly Jumper »

I was playing this party

Priest of Lathander
Assasin
Sorceror
Cavalier
Inquisitor
Dead Hunter

They were unstoppable but I missed so much the banter and the romance, etc... that I've decided to start a new game.

I read some time ago in the forum something i was wondering to do, and it is play without reload. If anyone die and I can't resurrect him he is dead forever.
I will have to be very careful, but that's something I want to try. So, i need advice about what NPC i should take with me. Lets me give you some clues:

I am a sorceror and I will take with me Jan and Mazzy for sure. For the rest of my party I am thinking of two possibilities:

1.-
Sorceror
Jan
Mazzy
Korgan (or Valygar or Minsc)
Haer Dalis
Jaheria (Maybe modified to a Ranger / Cleric) (I am looking forward to play this character)

2.-
Sorceror
Jan
Mazzy
Valygar (or Minsc)
Aeire
Anomen

I really want a mix between fun and power because I am not going to reload.

Better romance: Jaheria or Aerie?
Will Valygar, Mazzy and Anomen be able to do all the melee?

I am looking forward your replies and opinios, and feel free to change any character (apart from Jan and Mazzy) if you think the new one will fit better.
For your information I dont like Viconia very much

Thanks in advance

For your question regarding if Valygar, Mazzy and Anomen can do all the melee, then the answer is definitely yes.
I would probably keep Mazzy for short bow expert, though, because there are so many good (and useful) short bows in the game, and I like using bows especially facing mages. Valygar can use two weapons, and can backstabb as the stalker class. With some sort of strength enhancement (belt), he is one of the best melee fighter in the game (I pick him over Minsc every time). And Valygar and Mazzy's interaction is funny.

Only thing I might consider is in your choice two, you have three magic users (PC, Jan and Aerie) and two clerics (Anomen and Aerie). Unless you love using magic heavy group or really want to go with Aerie romance, I would replace her with someone else, maybe Jaheira as she is Druid which is different from Claric and you seem to be interested in her romance.

I cannot comment on romance. It is really depends on you.

I'll register a vote for Jaheira (over Aerie). Jaheira's romance is probably the most complex and difficult in the game, but is also the most rewarding. Are you using mods? There is a mod which makes the romance(s) run quicker which helps experienced players of bg2. There is also a mod called 'additional harper content' which stalled my Jaheira romance last time. Good luck with whatever you decide, I also will be doing a 'deathless journey' next time.
