Is there any purpose to the "The Thief Herald" or "Knave of Cups Herald"? Is there any point in having (+15%) to Inspect/Disarm/Pick Locks (if they stack)? It seems like a bitter waste. As most of my characters I have bash open chests when I get thier strength stat high (60-135) and then don't need any points put into the Pick Lock and Disarm Trap skills. Also, you only get up to 99% odds for the slowest opening sequence when disarming...does the extra 5%-15% put it up to a 100% success-rate (instant chest/locker being opened)? I never bothered to check this. Does anyone know of what the X% to Inspect/Disarm/Pick Locks does besides raises the percentage of the odds a little? If 99% is the highest, why bother with these heralds?
It would have been better to have +5%-15% for ALL Thief skills in general...hell, maybe even for Diabolic skills (that resemble rogue-like skills) like Backstab, Hawkeye, Critical Strike, and Shadow Mode. Just a thought.

Does it increase the rate of getting better equipment, so that (if you play Single Player), you don't have to keep reloading on the same chest to get the equipment you want?
Anyone know this? Is anyone else under this impression? Is it worth still getting this Heraldry, or is it better to get such worthless heralds as "The Lady and the Lion, +2Strike" or "Bargain, +15%Bargain". (I'm not saying that I'd pick those 2 heralds as I'm making a statement about worthlessness). I say this because chests do not reload themselves with new treasure like they did when I played Diablo 2 and some other games where the terrain repopulated itself. Heck, I would have been happily delighted if the creators of the Wizardry games (Heuristic Park) did what they did with those games as they should have done with Dungeon Lords...that is that many enemies drop items and even CHESTS...and your thief would have to disarm it correctly to get rare and interesting treasures. (And maybe everything should go back to Diablo2 style in real time...instead of all this saving and loading...basically fearing death and trying to be God...getting the best of stuff. This would make any Heraldry of +XX% to Inspect Chests/Disarm Chests/Pick Lock worthwhile. But, it becomes useless when all chests/cabinets/locks are limited and finite, which they currently are in the latest version of 1.5CE.
P.S.
If you, Heuristic Park devise a new patch, that is 1.6...figure out a way to include treasure chests being dropped by enemies, that would be most appreciated by myself and probably by many other ppl who have gotten tired of picking up worthless goblin daggers and short swords and petty amounts of money. And create hundreds and hundreds of new equipment, so that I can feel more alive when replaying the game. The replay of game's value is bolstered by the fact that there is actually infinite ways to keep playing it over and over, differently each time. If there is no character individuality to be created...why do you even create these games and preach to the public that these games have awesome replay value. Are you afraid that if you make the perfect game with the perfect replay value, that no one will ever want to buy anymore games, thus putting capitalisism out of business? It's like when ppl sell cars that are lemons when they know they can make cars that run on your own thoughts. I ask you game companies to respect yourselves and respect the person you make the games for...and not respect the love of money and greed. Thanks.

I never bash open chest.
If you read the kind of trap like magic ward or nether ward either of those decrease your use of spells effectively.. Poison needle inflicts poison... (If none of these has happened to you you must not be playing 1.5 or are very lucky) Bashing open traps does in fact open the chest with less chance of getting the better stuff from it and also springs the traps causing damage to your character... Also there is a chance that they will jam and not ever open.. So yeah even if it only goes up to 99% chance which it does... Opening a lvl 12 chest drops to 90% and still manageable at that rate.. Personally I ship the fortune teller all together those cards offer me nothng I can't build up later. And things of my own choosing. In my opinion it is better to pick open the chests where as I have tried both methods and picking the chest merrits the better equipment and bounty fromt he chests.

It never happens...no side effects. I just took damage from the chests...that's all! And yes, I do play version 1.5CE.Iceman1963 wrote:If you read the kind of trap like magic ward or nether ward either of those decrease your use of spells effectively.. In the beginning of the game, while still at Arindale and Ulm...the equipment mostly isn't so great anyways...and most of it can be bought from in the shops of Arindale. I did get an Imperial Belt from Ulm castle in that secret room with 2 chests (near the entrance/exit), which I never got before with my Bash Brother characters, who only bashed chests. But, overall, I usually wait until I have lots of Intelligence (if I have no rogue "learning bonuses") or wait until I get more 2nd tier classes with the Rogue "learning bonuses" before I raise those Rogue Disarming skills. Don't get me wrong...I would love to get the best equipment...I just haven't seen anything great come from the chests in the beginning of the game. Also, I always get what I want from Re-Loading...eventually I get what I need whether I bash or not bash (disarm).Iceman1963 wrote:Bashing open traps does in fact open the chest with less chance of getting the better stuff from it and also springs the traps causing damage to your character...
Jamming only ocurs on cabinets and locked doors. Chests have never locked on me...EVER! And I've bashed opened hundreds of chests...sometimes each chests 20 to 30 times...to get what I needed. Patience is reward enough.Iceman1963 wrote:Also there is a chance that they will jam and not ever open.
