Game Playing

Post by Iceman1963 »

I wasn't really sure about what to entitle this post as it's just going to be a rant. I have completely gone through this game well over 50 times with every character combination and class imaginable just to say I have done it. Now the best race I have found to play in my opinion is the Elf female.. Good at magic, ok at hand to hand melee and archery. And can wear any armor in the game including the blade witch armor. Character classes I will leave up to you to develop. I have used the editors and made "God like" Characters for the fun of it and got bored with them really quick when nothing in the game was a challenge. And opening chests seemed redundant when I already had everything at the start of the game. So I have gone back to the normal way of making my characters and building them up and just use the editor if the game screws up and I miss getting the chance to go on a certain quest I can go in and edit it to give myself the starting part of the quest. I have noticed that in playing online that many people still use the editor to make the "God Like" Characters with resistances to everything which is fine if you want to play that way and have no challenge. Then there are the "Beggers" who see you use a weapon or armor they have never had before or a spell and bug you during game play for it. Anyone else get annoyed at that and just want to kill them off? That's part of the challenge is locating and attaining these things on your own in normal play. Or you join a game online and all they want to do is stand around and swap equipment and armor. Doesn't anyone play this game anymore? I've had people leave or boot me out of games because I didn't have the deathlord armor or the demon blade of Athulla to trade with them. And going through this game on my own is getting rather boring. I like playing in a group and helping them complete thier quests as well as mine. You get to see more of the world that way.

Hell, I couldn't even get online...must be because I use Dial-Up, go figure.
But, anyways, I've always been a Single Player-player. I enjoyed Diablo2 when it developed the mercenary buddy to travel with you. But, most of the time in these games I do get to feeling alone...so having a merc would make it nice...kind of like a baby-sitting gig. "Come on merc, over here, no don't go head first into that dragon's flame...you idiot, get over hear...well, I guess I'll have to save your butt again." This makes it feel like you are with one of your family members, but you get to cuss them out when they do stupid crap. :)

I also hate the buying and selling of spells in this game once your honor and bargain skill get high enough. Who programmed this game...SALVATION ARMY, Toys For Tots, Red-Cross, The Church of the Latter Day Saints? I mean come on, what shopkeeper is that cheritable to sell things cheaper and then buy it right back for more than they sold it for. That's just an insult to the players. I have heard of Marco-Polo and many traders who sailed for months to do trade and make profit with lands afar. But, with Moonbridges set up for instant transmission from one side of the contintent to the other...it makes no sense to set up the buy/sell thing...as everyone gets greedy...and wants to make the best profit...and that's just stupid. Okay, the greed companies outsource to the Philippines or Mexico and pay $1US dollar for a pair of Nike shoes to be made...and then sell it back in the USA for $200US dollars. Yeah, it makes you want to puke all over capitalism.

I personally play all games legitemely and abhore using editors. But, on the otherhand I think editors were invented because game company programmers are robots doing what there capitalistic bosses tell them what to do...thus making poor video games with no substance. Hell, us players who pay for these games should be the one's who are getting compensated...at least compensate us with honor and respect by hearing our many good insights on how to make a VERY AWESOME GAME. The game developers think they are Gods, but us players who get no payment know they are nothing but overpayed twits who generally only care about turning a profit than actually developing a game that adheres to ppl's wishes and wants.

Well, enough of my honest rants. Just felt since there is no Ranting forum setup for Dungeon Lords, I might as well do it here since Iceman already started this thread on the frankness of this game and all.

Iceman1963 and Planet Guardian, two names I've never seen on this forum or the Dreamcatcher DL forum. I thought forums were for constructive comments, NOT destructive posts. H***, I too have played through DL fifty some odd times and several parts to try different things (all versions combined). I'm thinking about shooting for 100, but during all that I also play other games. So you see, I don't have the time for, nor the desire to admit playing such and such a game several times, then suddenly get angry at myself and the game because I missed out on the finer? things in life

[Edit: Long, rambling post partially deleted.]

***I like how the game, Dungeon Lords, was put together as far mechanix goes...but that doesn't mean I can't voice the critizism behind the game and its gaming institutions (aka:the Game companies). It doesn't mean I have to bend-over continuously just to present myself as being nice chap. As the road to hell is paved with many 'good' intentions. So, I figure, I might as well be honest...even if it makes me look like a bastard to everyone. It's my turn at the dice...and so I roll what I roll...que sera, sera.

I mean, I find DL to be one of Heuristic Parks/D.W. Bradley's better works...even though that's not saying all that much, I suppose. As I have played the Wizards&Warriors game (which it can't stop from crashing itself constantly, but hey, whatever), and I thought Wizardry 8 was pretty neat...but as a heavy gamer...I could not help to notice how much more creative and efficient these games could be. I can see the lack of insight many game companies have...as capitalism, more times than not, ends up being the driving force...and blinds the game creators from seeing what their patrons are saying...which allows a sloppy game to be made...while the creators try to bask in the glory of what many inept patrons believe to be a creation from god. These game makers are not gods...as today, the gods of games are now the patrons who buy and play these games...and notice that the games being made really aren't all that great and spectacular as the companies and promoters claim them to be.

Do you really think I'm that harsh when it comes to critiquing Dungeon Lords and its creators? What's the difference between the honest person and someone, who lies to save face? To protect feelings would imply that there is no understanding...because feelings always protect what they do not understand.

I don't know, George...I'm not defending my honor out of ignorance...but out of understanding. I feel the more I understand of myself and of others, and the more others understand about each other, the less reason we have to rely on our own ignorances and conditionings to bail us out of our ever increasing problems.

I'm an expressionists...and in all my wonderment...sometimes I wonder how many words/sayings could I write on the internet in order to max out all the internet server hard drives. LOL. (There isn't any limits to how much crap you can put out their on the internet, is there?) ;)

You guys can post whatever you want about Dungeon Lords, good or bad, as long as the posts have substance. But if you post about "life" or insult other posters, then those posts will probably get deleted.

Thanks for politcally disecting my message, swcarter...as ppl now might get the impression that I am sane. (slight sarcasism).

Anyways, is there a ranting section for this game? When I was a member of the Sacred Forum, I remember there was a Ranting Section set up after many innocent ppl were condemned by the mods/admins as these innocents were accused of being crude, but many were just misunderstood Frankensteins. The ratio of lynchings being performed by the moderators/admins went down after a Ranting Section was added. (As to show there weren't just black/white issues...but rather, a huge grey area of issues that ppl who just wanted to offer their honest opinions could post in).

Or is that too much of a favor to have a Ranting Section? (I'm not being sarcastic on this one). Is GameBanshee just going to have a generic forum for each game? I'm just saying if you really wanted structure, so as innocents don't get slaughtered by being misunderstood, then a more orderly forum of forums might have purpose with subsections for each game listed in your community of game forums. If a decision was made about this already, then apologize for taking up everyone's extra time.

I guess it really doesn't matter one way or another. (not being manipulative...just facing the inevitable honest ending here). Uncertainty apparently does rule.

I didn't dissect your message. I took out about five paragraphs that didn't have anything to do with the game.

We're not going to add ranting forums. If you want to rant, go yell at your wall or something.
