Meh, some think it's genetic, some think it's choice, I on the other hand could care less, just let'em be is all I can say.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.

I have to ask, why do you ask this? Is there a personal reason behind it? Religious conflict, enlightenment being sought? What?

My question as well.
You might find you are more likely to stimulate discussion if you provide some background and reason behind your question. Assuming, of course, you don't begin denigrating gays, in which case this thread will most likely end up being closed.

*nods* Asking that kind of question, and nothing else is asking to start some biased flamewar in most places. I will refuse to take part in the discussion unless it is to help someone out. As well, most people have very firm beliefs on the issue one way or the other, and it is not worth discussing unless someone truly wants to learn about it for a specific reason.

There is actually a third alternative, and that is that sexual orientation is biological but not genetic, and this is the current scientific hypothesis based on findings in scientific studies. Not genes but hormonal levels prenatally seems to influence sexual orientation.

The idea that sexual orientation is a choice, has no scientific or factual support at all, although it is a popular belief among some religious groups and queer-theory feminists.

I agree that Biological is the only logical reason.

Genetic does not work since a "Gay" gene would almost never be passed on to the next generation. And a 10% mutation at the same site is not plausible.

Choice is ridiculous. Do people choose to be heterosexual or asexual? No.

It has to be fluctuations in hormonal levels probably prenatally as posed by C. Elegans.

A brief explanation please.

I will echo the same sentiments of some of those who already posted.

@graywolf: We would appreciate if you give us a brief background of the context of your question. Such a question is a delicate one, and if handled improperly, can cause undesirable exchange of ideas. ;)

And yes, welcome to SYM. :)

Er.... straight people do not have a history of being discriminated against because of their sexual orientation. They have never needed to refer to their intimate relationships as "The love that dareth not speak its name."
And that's just for starters.
However, I'll stop there. I have the feeling you are simply trolling, and do not wish to actually engage in any kind of discussion.

I don't see any point in this thread, as I see nothing construtive in the question. "Why are gays gay" is not the initial post of a debate at all, but looks much more like simply trying to stir up some emotional arguing, thus I'm closing it down.
