I open the chest in the Drake breeding ground a few times and I can't decide between Black Plate A18 Str+5 Per+5 , or the Deathlord A22. Anyone used them both before?
The kicker is I also got a Dragon Shield with the Black, that might tilt me towards it.

I have loads of Black Plates and only 1 Deathlord Plate. I also have other Deathlord Items. I think you should choose Deathlord because Black Plate gets quite common. You can even get it in a second tier Fighter quest!
Dragon shield isn't too good I found a few in ToS and around the world.
So if I was back there with another char' I would choose Deathlord in the hope of finding the other things later (Deathlord can have a full set, quite fun to quest for.)

I've always had a hard time determining whether more Parry is better OR whether more AC value is better in this game.
The +5 Strike from the Blackplate becomes a unwanted asset when there is the "Strike bug" to compete with. And you can always boosts your Parry by increasing the "Agility Attribute" and the "Parry Skill". But, AC can only be improved by items...and in that, that is why I feel its better to go with getting the best AC Armor in the game, The Deathlord Armor set. (At least have it when you are satisified with your strike and parry values).
I recently tried the Firedrake roosts chests and got (Deathlord Shoulders, Blackplate, and that Heavy Shield with Blue Eyes and a Blue Smile on it)...after many attempts. And felt that was the best option of chest items that I could get from it.
If you keep your strike down below 90 for most of the game...then +strike items aren't too bad. When your strike starts to get around 94-99 (base strike, including heraldries with +strike)...I suggest abandoning the Blackplate for the Deathlord Armor (should you have it in your possession).
