Magic Weapons- Drain?

Post by spudscooking »

I have recently aquiried the Drain Life skill and got it up to 7.
I am asking if the strikes from magical weapons count as a magical attack and replenish your health. I have noticed it slightly but I'm not sure if that was just me recovering over time?
Any help?

No magical weapons do not count with the drain life diabolic in recovering your life energy. Only a successfully cast spell can restore lost life withthe drain life diabolic

So by saying that Iceman, it is reasonable to say that a WarWitch or a Warlock or a Cabalists should have 1st and 2nd tier classes that specialize in magic (Arcane/Celestial/Nether), instead of any Weapons/Armors (fighting themes)?
That is to say, to get the most effect out of the Drainlife skill, one must be proficient in having the most magical damage by having high levels of Arcane/Celestial/Nether/Rune skills?

If this is so then I guess I'm ready to make my first WarWitch character build.

And if all this is true, why would one pick a Warlock over a WarWitch ascension, when the WarWitch gets so much more in "learning bonuses" and in an awesome Special Heraldry? Maybe my ignorance is holding me back, but from what I can tell the WarWitch seems to own over the Warlock and the Cabalist.

Still the idea of life leaching (aka :D rain Life skill) was always one of my favorite features of games (ie Diablo2, and well...uh...the many other games that copied Diablo 2's system... ;) ).

The actual build I used may xseem quite random but I was trying to get 5/5 learing bonuses for weapons and armour, yet still having a slight bit of magical bonuses. Fighter/Celestial/Valkyrie/Knight/Warwitch.
Yumyum, I have a tank.

Yeah Warwitch is the better class of magic casters.. But you get access to better arcane spells by sticking witht he mages guild accentions... I guess it depends on which way you really want to develop your character.

I have to address my confusion with one more question:

How does the ratio of Life Leach (Drainlife vs. actual magic damage) work?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a given Assumption (doesn't mean its correct):
-Drainlife, skill level 10, does 20%Lifeleach based on magic damage
-Intelligence 90-100
-Arcane Magic skill level 15
-Using spell Fire Nova
-5 Enemies Get struck by Fire Nova

:Fire Nova does 100 damage (average) to each enemy
:That's 500 damage total, while at 20%Lifeleach, 100 Health Points are recovered.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is my assumption correct, or am I way off...or does know-one really know how Drainlife vs. Magic Damage work?
