But one question remains, at what difficulty do you guys play? Personaly i play at hard and plan to try it on insane soloing this time, sounds impossible but we will see. This difficulty level i'm wondering is without ascension or tactics mods installed, because that makes it a "bit" harder too

I usally play Normal mode, but I dislike how monsters do only 3/4ths damage. I like how I don't have a need re-load when reading scrolls or leveling, though. (It's always a disappointment when you get a bad roll on a permenent effect).
Currently, I play Normal mode when reading scrolls and leveling but Insane mode when fighting. It's not much of a change when you have 1 character with -20 AC and 5 characters with either Stone Skin or Iron Skin, though.
They really need to make Insane mode more balanced: reduce saving throws, reduce damage dealt, increase thac0, increase damage taken, etc. Just increasing the damage monsters deal is really easy to counter.

I usually play either Core Rules or Insane. It's still pretty easy. If you have gotten used to soloing, then your tactics shouldn't change at all. You'd still use the same skills or spells and what not. Besides, if you solo the game, and have the level cap at 8 million XP (through Throne of Bhaal), then, without even doing all of the quests, you should be way over the Shadows of Amn cap limit. In fact, you'll probably have your epic abilities before you pay either group.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Couldn't have said it better myself. I only play Core difficulty, without cheese (at least, what I define as cheese), with the goal of never reloading (although, I am guilty of maxing HP *ashamed*).kmonster wrote:I play on core difficulty because then the enemies are as they are supposed to be.
Enemy goblins using short bows are supposed to do 1-6 damage, not 75 or 200 percent of this.
If I can ever make it through the game without reloading (which would be never, being an average player), only then would I consider upping the difficulty.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Always Insane. With tactics and Ascension nowadays. So far there's only one fight I have been unable to beat at that difficulty and that is that godd*mned last battle in Ascension. Had to lower it down to Core Rules to stand a chance.
My sole purpose (well, excuse really) for playing is so that I'll be able to beat it one day. One day...
