During the last trial of the elders I was getting whomped on pretty good so I decided to up my vitality and strength a little, after making a few minor adjustments I saved but when I restarted the game and loaded the edited file both my ADV and EXP point were down to 310 and indicated that I was back at level 1 from level 9.???
I'm having level-resetting problem too when I use the editor. :(

Nope, I have just loaded up the computer for it, I have quit DL and tried it. I have played another character in-game and then come out and I could successfully mod them. Strange.

It seems that your editor dont load the saves from the European CE version of the game, so I cant test it for now or ever, exept if you take a look at this save ;)

Btw ill be coming back soon to see if its something you can do.

Dunno if it is should help but I'm playing a French version of DL atm.

Hey just checking back to see if you ever had a chance to look at Multiplayer?

Since DL multiplayer breaks quests, at least up to 1.4, this could easily resolve and be amazing help to creating a Dungen Lords Online community.

Thanks

DL MP mode only breaks quests when it is used incorrectly. If you don't want your quests cleared, then don't use the "LOAD CHARACTER" button. Only use the "LOAD SAVEGAME" and then select the character from the right column.

The "LOAD CHARACTER" button is only for importing a character into a selected savegame (or starting a new game). Your imported character assumes the quests of the main character in the selected savegame, and thus loses its own quests. (This applies to storyline quests, not class quests. Class quests are handled differently.)

If you are joining instead of hosting, then you must use "LOAD CHARACTER" or select a character from the right column of the host-selected savegame. You don't get a choice of loading a savegame.

Well I have had Class quest break, i.e if someone else has thrown a killing blow to kill my boss while they are not doing my Class quest it does Not credit me with completing the quest.

I do understand what you are saying about Loading a Charater and I think that is a great tip. :)

Also, when hosting, you dont want any joiners to pick up quest items. They cannot drop them and you need them to complete the quest. Important keys, relics, etc. should only be picked up by the host. Otherwise, the joiner could quit and you'll never finish the quest because the item disappeared with the joiner.

Steve2d's Character Editor

Hiyas. I've become a huge fan of Dungeon Lords. I have recently posted a couple times on the Official Page forums to determine what was going on.

After checking a few editors, and finally found Steve2d's, I thought it was brilliant and exactly what I wanted. I don't like to cheat, but I believe it's a severe flaw with the Identify skill being so hard to attain without being a mage, otherwise having to go through tons of mobs and discarding many items before even knowing what they do. So I used the editor to Add Identify to my warrior so he could Identify. Only because I think the game is flawed in that way.

One other instance, I blew up my Elven Spirit Shield without noticing while playing with my 4yr old son. We only play together on this character and it's something we share together.

Anyhow! All of a sudden when I went to check some stats, I should have been around level 12-14. I was level 8 !!

Come to find out, if you use the editor your saved game with be reduced in levels dramatically. I tested it a couple more times only to see my level drop more and more. There is another editor Dl Character editor: Filename dlcharedit. This is nice and works correctly but it only affects Attritubes and Skills. Which is fine.

It's just that I figured someone would have noticed this huge flaw in this editor by now. I would really like to have it in case something hinky happens like my shield accidently blowing up :) Is it possible I added the shield wrong and this happened? I'am positive I didn't though, I added it and Quanity one I put the correct hardiness of the shield (250).

Sorry to ramble. But the editor, to me, causes me to lose levels dramatically after each use. Could anyone give some insight on this or possibly tell me I edited something the wrong way? It's a superb editor, covering everything, but it's a pointless program if it just destroys your levels..

Thanks in advance. And is there a cap to skills? Such as Medium Weapons, mine is at 10 and I'am just not sure whether to raise it? I'am sure I can but I thought I would ask since I found out there is a cap on attributes. Only through cheating though which I read. :)

Thanks in advance, please help and it's greatly appreciated! Sorry for rambling and incoherence. It's late :)

Yup the editor is broken in that regard.

If you load a game and add an item or a skill to a character, when you save from the editor it will default to level 3 with whatever the exp is for a level 3. Changing you level or exp from within the editor has no effect either. I suspect it's an overlooked bug as I didn't see it reported anywhere in the original editor thread.

I noticed this when I loaded an old save to see what the difference was between having a Luck heraldry and no Luck heraldry (it makes a big difference on creature drops and chest contents btw).

I guess the only "good" way to use the editor is to make a new game, save, load it into the editor, bump up identify to 10, save, and play the game as usual. Otherwise if you get carried away with game editors I find it makes the game no longer fun to play (no more challenge, and no more "oooh look what I got from this here chest!).

I don't think there is a "natural" cap on your abilities. My marauder/trickster has a light weapon skill of 18, medium of 12 (dual wields a medium and a light weapon) and I definitely notice an improvement on my hit amount (I also notice the strength stat adds to your hit total as well).

Hexing something simple..

Heyas. I posted this on the Official boards but thought I might get a response quicker or better here as well.

I don't like to cheat, and I pick things up very quick but I havn't had a concrete example of how to add an item or adjust a skill with a hex editor. I have 3 at the moment and know that the codes exist after the 3rd name in the instance.

I havn't searched these forums, but could someone give me directions on how to add 'suede boots' to the game. Nothing big, but something to get me started so I can learn from there. I don't plan to cheat in any uber way, but no chestplate or boots makes me look odd so I'd just like some suede boots atm. And the best Editor has a drastic level reducing bug.

Thanks if anyone could just explain how to add 'suede boots' to my saved game, and if you're bored maybe adjust Identify Skill. A good example will atleast show me how so that I can see it and do it and learn from it. Thanks!

If you downloaded the latest version of net framework 2.0 from Microsoft, it's imposible for it to ba a beta version!

I'm assuming you have either 1.4 or 1.5 version of Dungeon Lords. HM, wonder what happened to the link, at the top of this main page, for the latest editor 1.56a?

Hi All! Sorry it's been soooo long, but business is good :) I updated the original post in this chain with links to every previous version in the version history. Just click on the Version 1.XX line to download that version from my website.

I have started working on a replacement for this editor again. For those who don't remember, a hard drive crash lost much of my progress on the current version. I'm hoping to have something for you soon.

Glad to see that George is still here. Without him this place would fall apart :)

later,
Steve
Thanks,
Steve

Good to see you're around and about, Steve. I've been playing Gothic 3 off and on. The world map isn't really all that big, but the towns and caves are huge. Kind of makes me wonder what DL would be like if it was done to the point that it was sorta like G3.

There's a cheat console in G3, but it requires user added blank directories so the console shows clearly. The game is a memory hog and just any vid card just won't cut it, although my 6800 gs 256mb handles it ok.

So many gamers are having issues with the console, but they probably do something wrong and really mess up the game.

first off this is awesome...
really awesome ..

i like the lay out of the editor very much and i hope you find a way to resolve the exp/adv pts issue and the qty..issuess..
and come up with a new release soon..

from what ive read the editor.. resets quants back to 0.. messes with exp and adva pts.. and so the only way to go about things is to hex edit stuff yourself..
(at least until those problems are taken care of..)

i saw the off sets and items list links on first page of forum by steve2d

is there some updated or expnaded item hex/offsets list?
(some of the feilds seemed to have not been defined/explored much when that spreadsheet was done..

now is this one where if the hex is 07f0 you have to put it in f0 07 in hexworkshop..(my personal choice)

also regarding items and locations and hearldries.. i didnt follow the items hex it looks like they are 20 bits long.. and composed of various parts...
though the list it as 256 items*20 bits per i only count 16 in an item string

the first group of 2 being the id of the item i get.. i also get the 0400 for identifed. but ..
the other item bytes i dont get.. which grouping is qty ...
and are there a list of known bytes for magic qualities etc??

and hearldries confuse me it seems some of them and some diabolic skills conflict..

ive also read more than 10 could be added but does it have an effect? and lastly...

ive seen controvesy over life and vital over 100 screwing up the game.. and comments that its negative effect items.. and not +100 life vit that cause problems..

any deffintive answer??
i really dont want a invulnerable to physical attack char..
id like to know that if durring non hacked normal game play i exceed 100 life.. or 100 vita.. that Im not suddenly going to be screwed by a game engine that only looks at the last hex pair or something...

i saw post stating yes this is true and no this isnt...
help??

any way to make dual light med useful?? using editor

is it possible to edit the speed or dam of a weapon or to make it wieldable off handed..

so that by make a small tweak or two.. dual light becomes better than a single med or heavy weap..if you have the right comob..

and likewise for dual med...

it seems you should be able to ..but im not sure of the correct hex values to make this so...

is this part of a planned expansion to the editor?

i totally accept that it would require hunting around to find the right combo..
but the fact that no combo of dual med or dual light gives a greater benefit than a 2hnd weap ..just seems off..
maybe if you could flip a byte and make a weapon offhand weidlable..or something....

I did some experimenting and was able to dual weild with Demonblade of Charrus (heavy) and Bladerelic of Night (light). That means that I must have also assigned lots of points for the respective skills and enough strength for the heaviest weapon :mischief:

hmm okay what about med weap for off hand

George K cool that gives me something t shoot for re dual weid light..hey wait a minute i thought baldric of night was med weapon???

but is there any decent off hand light or if baldric of night is really a light weap .then.. ..med weap avalible following the threads it seems not really..
also any definetive word on the whole life and vital below 100 controversy?
i saw some post from folks saying that 120 vital and 260 life worked just fine for them...

and many who said that anything over 75 or 80 for life X/80+
started causing problems
Im using CE version..

if that is relavent
