can I leave items in random boxes/chests?

Hi my character is about to enter spellhold and I want to leave some of my extra items that I can't sell at the moment in a chest in one of the unoccupied houses. Does this work, as in, can I expect all of the items to be there when I finally get out of spellhold?

Yes, this works in all areas that you can go back to.

I like using the shelfs in Adventurers Mart to store stuff between quests.

Except for those areas that overwrite themselves during the game. For example the Umar Hills temple, and of the strongholds, etc.

But Remember to Return Before Leaving

The items will remain and you can return as long as you remain on the island. But be sure to go back and sell anything you don't want to keep and take anything you want before either using the portal to leave from spellhold or take the ship with Saemon (sp) to leave the island. Once you leave by either means you cannot go back.
