I need a new game!

Once upon a time there was the game to end all games, it had a name, Baldur's Gate Throne of Baal! I loved it, I lived it and I never ever found anything remotely as good. Currently I play World of Warcraft, the battle to reach lvl 60! wooohoooo.... ok granted it's a cool game but not really a dungeons and dragons rpg. I've played spellforce, funny but let's face it, rts combined with a sort of not really dnd makes for a little bit of each but not enough of either. I found myself looking at Dragonshard but saw it was a rts and rps kinda like spellforce. What I want is just a game like Baldur's Gate, I don't care about graphics that much but I do want the same gameplay, storytype, and in detail worked out world like bdgtob had. Now I know such a game cannot excist in the same universe however I would like to know if anything will keep me enjoyed a little like it did. Please tell me what games I should try and most of all WHY. I am a student so buying 10 games and wasting money on 9 of them is something I can't do so please tell me what game I should try and why, and hopefully there is something new I haven't seen yet....

For the record I liked morrowind and oblivion but hated them as soon as I found all the gameplat glitches (won't explain them but they're not for me)

might help a little for filtering

I also prefer team rpg's like bdg over games like neverwinternights where you have your avatar and henchman and nothing else. Interaction, story, adventure, love, death and destiny! Yes I want another baldur's gate but since it's not here yet gimme something to do inbetween

This is in the wrong forum, but to answer you...

If you liked BG, maybe you should try out Icewind Dale 1 & 2? They are similar in party setup, game basis (both D&D games) and game play.

Yes, try the Icewind Dale series.

I'd recomend Planescape Torment (some items in Shadows of Amn are named after characters from this game). It is kind of hard to get your hands on though. I was lucky.

You might want to try Neverwinter Nights, 3D graphics, but D&D (v3.5 rules) nonetheless.

If you're looking for an older, more interesting game, I'd reccomend Arcanun Steamworks and Magick Obscura. It is very interesting. Hard to get into at first, but very interesting.

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader, it's alright, the Black Isle team wasn't able to finish and polish it off though. It's good for one or two playthroughs, if you don't mind the rough edges.

I tried neverwinternights, found it rather boring especially with the shallow storyline and lack of group action (my opinion on it, haven't tried the expansions). As for icewind dale, yeah gonna try and get it, but to what level does it run? as with bdgtob it ran up to what lvl 15 or something? playing bdg after having played bdg2 would be kinda strange so does icewinddale run up to a high level? I tried planescape torment, wasn't for me, bit to weird. Tried arcanum, it was different but again not for me

Will look into lionheart and icewinddale should be available in stores for a few bucks I hope, if I can still buy it

Thanks so far, feel free to keep ehm coming, especially newer games would be nice

Just found ice wind dale compilationpack for 15 euro's

that's cheap so should be good. I also tried sacred for those wanting to suggest it, rather liked it but it lacked the team and most importantly it lacked an intensive story.

I also played dungeon siege..... yeah well can't blame me for trying it right? Well it lacked story, gameplay, graphics (once I hit the icelevel I just stuck with the minimap). It was lame, so how is part 2?

Never played it so kinda curious

It's obvious by now I played a lot of them, but not nearly enough rrrr I like rpg! Minsc and boo! jaheira and aerie catfight MEOW!

anyway feel free to gimme more titles....

Woah man.

The levels for ToB, for a single classed character range from 31 to 40.

In SoA they're 18 to 21, for single classed characters (except for the druid that can only go up to level 14).

Icewind Dale II lets characters go up to level 30 (single classed). You have a great ammount of freedom in mixing classes.

Oh, you might want to try the original Baldur's Gate, if you haven't already.

I also think that you'll enjoy Fable, as you have enjoyed Morrowind.

Hello, De_Priester. Now technically, BG: Throne of Bhaal is the add-on for BG2, but that's ok, I liked it more than the actual game also.

As Crenshinibon said, you might like IWD, the series being considered the H&S version of Baldur's Gate (if that makes any sense for you). I had a lot of fun playing it and IWD 2 is in my top 3 RPG's all time.
However, if you feel like trying something different I would recommend Fallout 2. The game is great and as for price, you can find it at a very conveninet one nowadays. Greets!

Naturally I tried baldurs gate, xsa(whatever it was) and montaro ftw

Also played fallout but that's not my kind of world to play in. I am buying icewind dale 1, addon and 2 but I fear that won't be enough for me and I am actually hoping there would be something newer for my rpg needs

I played Fable, was WAAAAAAAAAY to easy, and it's just a slice and dice game, no tactics like bdg

So here goes

A new rpg, teambased, good storyline, ad&d rules, team interaction not just clay puppets. High level (powerbuilder grin). Long and cool. Comparing it with baldur's gate 2 and tob, but something with updated graphics. Doubt anything excists like that but worth the shot

I've not thought many games since BG series have equaled it. For the most part, my impression of them has been all shiny graphics to distract you from the lack of a storyline. Morrowind was an average game I thought until the mod community made it into a very good game. You can DL all kinds of mods, including new quests, factions, and companions.

Pound for pound though, if you've never played it, Planescape: Torment is a truly amazing game. It uses the same engine that BG did, and the story is deep and very very good.It's one of the top RPG's ever in my opinion, easily rivaling or even surpassing the BG series. It's old, so you may have to look for it a little harder though.

As for planescape torment didn't like it when I played it since it wasn't the type of world appealing to me kinda like arcanum was 2 odd for me

I'll buy icewinddale first, rent dungeonsiege 2 (probably won't last a day), I put my NWN back into the cdrom drive but cancelled installation cuz I didn't feel like it. Will look up my planescape torment cd and give it a whirl, who knows right? I played morrowind with the mods and such but to me it's a big world without a story and not enough friends to talk to. Oblivion was just plain crap as for gameplay, graphics looked hot but gameplay was bugger, they did improve the storyline....

The best thing for you to do is take a look at the GameBanshee sites. There's lots of great games to choose from, including ones we might have missed. Not to bring you down, but since BG is considered by many THE GAME, I'm not sure if you'll find something that will equaly please you. Greets!

I just started with icewinddale 1, got heart of winter and that free add-on installed, didn't realise it had such a high levelcap or I would have played it before. I actually did play icewinddale 2 before but I got bugged out when I had no npc's to play with, I loved this greatly within baldur's gate the fact your party is "alive". Anyway gonna play icewind dale for now, probably won't be as much fun as baldurs gate but seeing as there is nothing else to play (or actually I already played most of them) I think I will have to do with this. I got both icewind dale 1 and 2 and heart of winter for 13 euros and 50 cents so that's a nice bargain right?

Will enjoy this for a while, anyone tried temple of elemental evil? is it anything like bdg?

Temple of Elemental Evil is true turn based and follows the DnD rules much close. But there are NPC's in the world who will join your party and the story's not too bad either.

It really depends if you can deal with turn-based games or not.

Not the turn based system is the problem with TOEE but the huge number of bugs and the fact that it's h&s. So don't expect to much of a story, maximum lvl for characthers is 10, and the items barely have a description of what they do.
I played it on normal (other difficulty being ironman) and I found it to be easier than BG on easy. Also, expect just what the name says: a huge temple with 4 or 5 levels of dungeon to explore.

If you dont mind graphics to much, try elder scrolls 3 morrowind, it is a great game that takes awhile to beat and has tons of side quests.

In a very large world without any friends, without real interaction between people. Morrowind to me was this big beautiful world where soon enough you just feel lonely because you are all alone. I played Morrowind and loved it a while but I need a party and more interaction, now icewind dale doesn't have the party interaction which is a shame but at least it has a party. Baldur's Gate just had it all I guess, a party alive and chatty, the best gameplay, amazing storyline and awesome quests. If I had a couple of million I'd go over to the original people who made Baldur's Gate and I'd ask them to use their brain and make me a new one cuz it so owned.

Now I heard Dungeon Siege 2 has party interaction so that might be nice, but remembering dungeon siege 1..... I'll play icewind dale first...
