I finished the game about a month ago and found it very frustrating on account of the numerous bugs. The one that bothered me most was one that kept me from using a scroll of heal on some poor bugger and thus not be able to solve 4 or 5 quests depending on this. I tried casting it with: a cleric, a sorcerer, a wizard, a bard and failde miserably with all of them. Also, I was looking for the spell heal in the game's manual (thinking that maybe I'm supposed to be a certain level to cast it) and...surprise, there is no such spell!
Did anyone get the same problem?

Heal Scroll
Greetings Daianara,
IIRC The spell is a 6th or 7th level cleric spell and would be above the characters ability to memorize and use. A cleric, and probably a druid, "should" be able to use the scroll. My cleric had no problem once the scroll had been "identified". If yours has not been then your cleric won't be able to use it until after it is. Have your mage or cleric memorize the 0 level spell "read magic". After resting have them cast the read magic spell on the scroll. You should then be able to use it. If you have already identified it, I am guessing it is a bug. Lord Plothos who is a moderator for this forum knows just about every bug in ToEE and has some good advice.

It's a bit tricky, but this isn't necessarily a bug at all. According to D&D rules, a cleric can use divine spells from scrolls that are of a spell level that he can currently cast. That is, a 5th level cleric can cast 3rd level spells, and thus any scroll with a t 3rd level or lower spell should be no problem.
You must also have the relevant ability score high enough. For a sixth level cleric spell, you must have a 16 or higher wisdom. Even if you do, then when the spell is of a higher level than you can cast on your own, even after identifying them, which is required, there's no guarantee if the spell level is too high. You have to succeed on a caster level check. If you fail that, you may suffer an unfortunate mishap.

But the easiest solution to your problem is to use the heal potion that is located in the same location you got the scroll. Anybody in your party can use that on Bing, and he'll be fine.

Thanks for your answers. Well, I think I looked for the Heal potion through out the game and didn't find any. If it really was in the same place as the scroll I couldn't say. I didn't get it. And it's not mentioned in the GB walkthrough either. And the existence of a heal potion isn't even listed. See here
I think I invested quite a lot in the use magic item (I think this is what was called) ability but I still couldn't use the scroll (yes, it was identified ). Anyway, I'm not going to play the game again just to find this out.
Lord Plothos, I'm taking advantage of this topic to ask you another question. I finished the game without a fight. I went to the locked level, I sent my rogue sneaking her way to the throne and stole the jewels from there. Cutscene-end game. Were you able to do this? I talked to some friends who played the game and they don't remember being able to end the game like this.

Yeah, the GB magic item list doesn't cover everything by a long stretch, so don't go by that. There should be 2 potions in the place you got the heal scroll (unless we're talking about 2 different places).
Spoiler alert:
It's in the bookshelf at the top of the stairs on the second floor of the Church of St Cuthbert
If you have a modded version, I guess it's possible they removed it for whatever reason.
As for use magic device, you shouldn't need that. If that's how you're trying to use the scroll, it's no wonder you're failing. Give it to your cleric (make sure he's got enough wisdom to cast it) and then use it from his inventory on the radial menu (backpack icon). If you're a spellcaster with the spell on your class list, you don't need use magic device at all.
And if you can't find the potion, you can always use the console to generate a new one.
I've never ended the game that way, but I'm sure it's possible. Funny.

The Co8 has not removed the potion of heal, and never will. Cannoness Y'Day (if asked about healing Bing) says you should use the potion of heal that can be found in the location Lord Plothos mentioned above. Whether that portion of the dialogue work in game I can't say, but it's certainly in her dialogue file.Lord Plothos wrote:If you have a modded version, I guess it's possible they removed it for whatever reason.
The power hack Vicks and Wedge mod for ToEE shouldn't remove the potion of heal either, they didn't alter anything in the container itself, or redefine the container's contents in invensource.mes.
I'm unsure as to whether 0rion79 modified the contents of that container or not, I doubt he would have though. Call me stuck up if you like I just cant bear to even unzip that rubbish onto my computer.
