Familars disapearing

Post by Loki123 »

Hi Another Familar question,

I casted the find familar spell in Irenicus' (spelling) prison, I now have the sphere and have done other stuff and have just realised that my familar has gone and I can't rre-cast the spell as I already have afamilar. Is this a bug or has something just gone wrong somehow?

By "just noticed," how far have you been playing? Have you been through several battles? Is it possible your familiar was killed? Did you retrace your steps to see if your familiar got stuck in a previous room?

yeah I've had that cast on me a few times, I think the last people that did were the mages that cursed jahiera (spelling) Or the Cowled wizards you fight in the Sphere.

Bingo. Notice how enemy spellcasters can poof your summoned creatures back into non-existence? That's what has happened to your familiar. Just recast the spell.

Okay--this is a different problem, and I wish you'd mentioned that detail, before. ;) Did you use search on the database? Because there are several references to situations like this. (I really suggest you check it.) In one, a player mentions having done a multiplayer game to import created characters they wanted in their party, and that definitely messes with a dead/unsummoned familiar--you'll get the message about already having one.

In any case, there's a CLUA console command that allows you to create a familiar as an item. Picking it up and then releasing it should fix that.

Yeah I ran a search but I couldn't find what I needed, I didn't look hard tho :o

What's CLUA? Is it the in game consol? If so how do I get at it?

Please search on CLUA before asking about this. :) There's quite a bit about the console in our database.

Is your familiar no longer in your inventory AND no longer on screen? Or just one of the two. (just double checking)

If the familiar is in the first slot of inventory in the protagonist, while gaining a reward from an npc; the game will boot the familiar out of the inventory to the ground and replace the familiar with a quest reward or item.

I think the familiar is lying on the ground somewhere. Mind you though I wouldn't bother picking it up; Familars are pretty useless save the health gained, especially when one can't rearrange the familiar around in inventory.

That's a good point, assuming the thing really does exist, now. The problem is determining whether all he's got is a phantom familiar by using the multiplayer option, in which case he's not really deriving any benefit from it. But the proper CLUAConsole command should determine that pretty quickly.

I can't figure out what the problem is. It doesn't sound like your familiar was killed; you can't just drop a familiar on the ground; and if you release your familiar, you can't leave the area without it. It sounds like your familiar disappeared from your inventory due to a glitch. Or maybe you've experienced a bug I once heard about in which a familiar that had been released was left behind during the dream sequence in Spellhold (that is, everyone in the party except the familiar was transported to a new area).

You can't summon a new familiar as long as the game thinks you still have one. I haven't found any way to change the flags that let the game know you have a familiar without making the game crash (the editors I've tried don't know how to access that particular variable, I guess). So I have concluded that the best way to fix your problem might be to create a new familiar just like the old one with Shadowkeeper or the CLUAConsole. I don't think a replacement will cause any harm.

That's what I thought, :(

I have had a brief look at the database and so far I have seen it mentioned but not what it is, also I have seen Shadowkeeper mentioned but also not what it is either, reading back through VonDondu's post I noticed
the editors I've tried
So I guess that what they are? :(
