Ashstorms and the .ini (config settings)

Post by dragon wench »

I know that ashstorms are an integral part of Morrowind, and I know they still occur once the main quest has been completed.
However, my present character has defeated the 'final boss', so I figure I'd still be basically roleplaying if I managed to eliminate the ashstorms completely.
My problem is that I have a lower end machine and the storms are hell on my FPS. I joined House Redoran and I am using a stronghold expansion mod, so I'm spending more time in the area than I otherwise might.

I've searched around Google to see if I can find out how to change my .ini settings to remove ashstorms but so far I can't find anything. I figure it *must* be possible, since you can change the lighting to quadratic and water so that it is clear..

Does anyone know which figures to adjust?
Any help would be much appreciated :)

Look for something like this:

[Weather Ashstorm]
Ambient Loop Sound ID=plx_WA_ashstorm
Sky Sunrise Color=091,056,051
Sky Day Color=124,073,058
Sky Sunset Color=106,055,040
Sky Night Color=020,021,022
Fog Sunrise Color=091,056,051
Fog Day Color=124,073,058
Fog Sunset Color=106,055,040
Fog Night Color=020,021,022
Ambient Sunrise Color=054,042,037
Ambient Day Color=075,049,041
Ambient Sunset Color=048,039,035
Ambient Night Color=036,042,049
Sun Sunrise Color=184,091,071
Sun Day Color=228,139,114
Sun Sunset Color=185,086,057
Sun Night Color=054,066,074
Sun Disc Sunset Color=128,128,128
Transition Delta=.035
Land Fog Day Depth=1.1
Land Fog Night Depth=1.2
Clouds Maximum Percent=1.0
Wind Speed=.8
Cloud Speed=7
Glare View=0
Cloud Texture=Tx_Sky_Ashstorm.tga
Storm Threshold=.70

I suggest turning the threshold up, for a start.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Thanks Fable! I had looked at that section, and I thought it might have something to do with the Threshold, but I wasn't sure whether to turn it up or down.

lol ML, thanks for that! :D

The thing is, I'm actually trying to avoid installing more mods since I don't want duplicates of non static objects in the house mod I'm using (It's a nice little place but the shelves were originally too cluttered for my liking..so now a crate in Balmora is home to numerous ceramic bowls and the like :D )

However, I do appreciate the file, and I'll certainly use it if I can't figure out the .ini method :)

It doesn't add any items so I don't see how it would cause doubling. I don't get why doubling happens though.

I don't get it either. However, quite often if I've added a mod once I've started a game, I'll get doubling. It doesn't even matter if the mod in question doesn't actually add any items.
Don't ask me why, it's one of those things that mystifies me, and I don't even mod, so I'm clueless. :o

But anyway, to get back on track, I think I'm going to experiment a bit with the ashstorm variables.
