Post by BOBPOP »

Hi

Can you edit the NPC's stats in a scenario editor or something?

Be careful though. They may not be able to use their personal items anymore if you do. I had Keldorn drained a point in constitution once and he could no longer use his sword or armour.

Thx for the link, but I can't make it work. When I want to extract the new files I get the error-message: "Some files could not be created. Please close all applications, reboot Windows and restart this application."

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and what should I do to solve it?

That doesn't sound right to me.

Go to Shadow Keeper to get the latest version of Shadow Keeper and see if that doesn't work better.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

Editing NPC Stats???

With reference to Onkel Bob's comments on not being able to use personalised items once the stats have been changed, I wonder if others have discovered that you can sometimes use personalised items if your character is similar. For instance, my druid was able to use the staff and Cloak belonging to Cernd, but a similar Fighter Druid couldn't. The description on those items says that they can only be used by him!

You can also edit stats in multiplayer mode by importing a character carrying the tomes from BG1, however isn't learning how to play the game with poor stats such as Aerie's poor constitution part of the challenge?

"Usability flags" determine who can use a weapon. Usability flags are sort of like checkboxes. For example, if a weapon is supposed to be usable by a Cleric, that gets a checkmark. Edged weapons don't get a checkmark for Clerics, so Clerics can't use them. See how that works? There is no flag that makes a weapon usable only by a certain NPC, so the designers gave each NPC's personal items restrictions that are so narrow, hardly anyone else can use them. For example, Yoshimo's katana can only be wielded by a True Neutral Thief who has 17 Strength, 18 Dexterity, and 16 Constitution. (Those are Yoshimo's stats.) Hardly anyone plays a character who matches those stats perfectly, so that's a good way to restrict the use of that item. If you change Yoshimo's class to, say, a Kensai, he can no longer use his own katana. If your own character meets the requirements for a certain weapon (such as Cernd's cloak), you can use it. An item like Valygar's armor is difficult to restrict since so many people play Rangers who have stats similar to Valygar's. That's why instead of saying it can only be used by Valygar, the description says, "Very few but he can wear it."
