Challenge me

Post by VelvetVelour »

I had a random idea.. it may have been done, but .. :D

I was playing Bloodlines and I'm like.. this (as awesome as we all know it is) is constantly repetitive

So how about, when some one things of one, we make challenges for eachother? like ways to make the game different or more "challenging"

Like.. playing thru the entire game with only shotgun and no other weapon.. or finished each side quest in a certain way or something

List your ideas and let the games begin ;)

Ah, love, been doing that. Keeping in mind that I favor Tremere, here are a few:

1) Do the warehouse weaponless.
2) Do the Russian Mafia without weapons or disciplines.
3) Do the serial killer with nothing but your bare hands. Beat him to death.
4) Do the massage parlor using nothing but feeding.
5) Do the Chinatown nightclub without actually touching anybody, or using any weapon, or being seen (except by Johnny and the Mandarin). Disciplines only. Nobody survives. That evolved out of an urge to try to avoid the TV news story about somebody slaughtering everybody. No marks, no sight, no sound - nobody. Nightclub people mysteriously die en masse. It doesn't work.
6) Oh, oh! And here's a fun one: Do the Hengeyokai without shooting it, cutting it, or using disciplines on it. You are, of course, free to do anything to anything else ;)

Those are just a few.

Killing the entire club using disciplines alone will work for most of the playable clans. All save two have powers that kill instantly. The Toreador and Brujah would be out of luck on this one. None of their Disciplines cause any direct harm to their enemies.

The other challenges you listed do look interesting. I think a well built Gangrel could do them all with relative ease, though. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

Okay, I'm all curious now. Do you push something heavy onto its head? Make a deal with it, to let it eat little miss demon hunter instead of you? All I've ever done is shot at it and boiled its blood from a nice safe distance.

Give us a hint!

Half of the time, Zygaena will wind up killing Yukie anyway. It's hard to kill it fast enough to save her life, and there is no reward (nor incentive) to save her, aside from your own humanity.

Zygaena is a fish (of sorts). Although the Cartiligenous Fishes are not fishes in the truest sense of the word. Sharks are a more primitive kind of fish. You're in a fish factory with a giant, angry, predatory, demonic fish. Fish factories are built for the very purpose of processing fish.

There are doubtlessly facilities at your disposal that would be useful in 'processing' a giant walking shark.

Take a moment to look around you. What do you see? Right at the beginning of the fight, if you were to move to your left to get a bead on Zygaena and take Yukie out of the line of fire, what is directly behind him?

There are only two ways out of that factory. On a stretcher or on your feet. Whether or not Yukie survives is secondary.

It's easy to save her when you attack him from close quarters and let her fire at him with the crossbow. And at least when using the unofficial patch you will get the occult blade as a reward for keeping Yukie alive. I thought that this made more sense than stumbling over it in some dark hotel room with lots of people attacking you with a knife while there is a sword lying around nearby ;) ...

True, but I don't do unofficial patches. Official 1.2 plain vanilla. I don't get the occult blade until much later in the game.

I'm not about to try to censor the people who patiently devote their time to trying to make the game better. More power to them, and their effort honors us all, and them as well. In the manner of a new kind of food, I try it first without condiments. If it is not to my satisfaction then I spice it up. I have found no reason thus far to spice it up.

You play as you choose. I play as I choose. Free will and everybody to their own. No harm, no foul.

Interesting! I've looked around after the fight a couple of times, and I don't remember seeing anything that could dispose of a colossal hammerhead, but I'll take a closer look the next time I'm there.

I guess this means no fancy katana for me this time around (I use the unofficial patch). That's okay. I hear wonderful things about sledgehammers, and nothing says Brujah quite like massive blunt trauma.

My apologies. You should not be looking for what's behind Zygaena, but what is behind you. My mistake.

For those who really can't find what Jhereg is hinting at, mild spoiler (highlight to see):

re.

Try using only passive disciplines only.

I never realised how much I relied on the 'trance' and 'suicide' style disciplines to get me through some missions until I tried Toreador. I know there's an argument that having access to celerity makes the game easier, but I only find the benefits in direct combat and there are some opponents I prefer not to get that close to. :D

Try doing the Venture Tower...

...without killing anyone- except, of course, the Sherriff/Bat. Or doing Obfuscate. Celerity is allowable tho as without it doubtful you'll survive on the roof with the warform baddies attacking. Call this Sneaker's Endgame.
I try this if I'm playing the Cammie/Strauss ending. Why the lack of bloodshed? Well, basically, all the various guards, commandoes, Ventrue upper-management boys and even pudgy ol'Chunk are, well, Camarilla assets. Destroying them right and left is sorta like going through the ranks and killing everyone in your own army to put your favourite General in command. They're unlikely to appreciate the massive damage control required and inheriting a crippled force is a dubious honour at best. You can safely assume that with LaX put down for treason and a nice little bonus plus week off with pay/blood/whatever all the former shirt and tie boys will be happy to congratulate the new boss on his stunning leadership and even more happy that the new bosses chief badass (you) didn't send them to Final Deathville.

Dig into the different histories available to each clan. Currently replaying as a Malkavian ninja, which is perfect for me...
