Can't change my homepage...

Post by Rob-hin »

Heya!

I can't seem to change my homepage.
My current is a Yahoo! group page...

Everytime I change it, it sticks to the current Yahoo! page instead of taking the new page.
Even a blanc page doesn't work.

What can cause this problem?

Sounds like some kind of addware/spyware in your browser.
Do you run any kind of 3rd party toolbars (for instance some Yahoo toolbar?) etc?

Try running adaware, spybuster or what else thoese anti-spyware/spywaredetection programs are called these days.

You can also try to alter the value in the registry, to see if that helps.

I'm not using any toolbars or other add-on stuff.

I'll try my AdAware then, thanks. :-)
After that, I may look in the regedit.

Assisted by this guide:
Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting
I know my way around the register but this was a nice checkup.

Anyways, I cant change register IE files nor delete them.
Getting frustrated here! :(

You mean you can't change the keys in registry?
for instance: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page" to something else via regedit?

Nope, I get an error.

After a lott of effort I found the problem.
Ill post it so others with the same problem can fix it too.

Somehow, Zonelabs prevented me from changing my startpage. It's overactive. :D
It's supposedly only with the latest version of Zonelabs, didn't check that though.

I restarted my PC in Safe mode by pressing F5 during the startup.
This way Zonelabs was not active in Windows, allowing me to change my starterpage.

They'll probably fix it later so I left Zonelabs on my pc.

Cheers Xan!
