Something wrong with my Shield of Balduran
Something wrong with my Shield of Balduran
I bought this item, but it doesn't reflect any beholder rays. The rays never hurt the character holding the item, but the shield just appeared to stop the rays, never reflect them.
Any way to fix this item?
TIA

Damn. I don't know what to suggest, but it certainly sounds like a mod adjustment. You've got no other patches running? What about the Baldurdash one?

I've had this happen to me before as well, try re-equipping the shield / restarting the game, saveing, reloading, ect. from what I can tell the shield will work for a random amount of time then will stop for some reason until I do the above. Even if it does'nt work for you you only need that shield for doing the unseeing eye and then only if your doing it early.
Wasn't there something with in SoA the shield reflected the rays back but with ToB the shield only absorbed?
I know that installing ToB modified the Cloak of Mirroring by adding the horrible globe animation and also making it only absorb instead of reflecting.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

This has happened to me before.
You can do an equip and re-equip as what Jedi_Sauraus suggested. Or you can drop your Balduran shield and Shadow Keeper or CLUA console a new one.
If that still doesn't work, maybe you can zip your save game and attach it right here for us to take a look.
Good luck!

Yeah, but some of us want to know why it happened, not simply CLUA in a replacement. Which is why we're trying, quite calmly, I assure you, to get to the bottom of this. For anyone who has this problem in the future:
I just ran into the same issue, and remembered that the Cloak of Reflection had the same visual effect as the shield. So...unequip shield, equip cloak, exit screen to let effect show. Then go back to inventory, unquip cloak and re-equip shield, and the shield should now be functioning properly. Hope that helps!

Yeah, I figured out that the Shield doesn't mirror the rays if you have the Cloak of Mirroring equipped. I was wondering why it took forever to kill the beholders in the Underdark... =X
