TOSC run error after install

Post by liorde »

Hello all,
Just yesterday installed BG1 & TOSC one right after the other.
Knowing that BG1 works on my system I assumed the same for TOSC.
Wrong... When I try to run the game I get a message:

"The game only operates on ENGLISH operating systems"

I sont understand this, since my system is WinXP+SP1a and it IS English .
So what is the issue here please?

Thank-you.

That's pretty odd. I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling it. Make sure nothing else is running when you install it again, too.

Tries that already.
Hmmm... guess I am out of luck here.
Oh well, guess I'll have to play BG1 without the expansion.

Thanks all the same.

Where did you get TOSC from? Did you patch both BG1 and TOSC, assuming there's one for the latter, before trying to play them?

Did you have previous install of these on your system, at some time in the past?

Do you have the English version of TotSC?
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

The fix...(that works as a matter of fact)

Hi again,
I have TOSC from the collection recently released as a 4 in 1 boxset. The main games are on DVD (BG1 & 2) and the expansions on CD's.

Anyway, what fixed this issue for me was changing the settings on the C.Panel's regional & language options, on the ADVANCED tab, changed the NON-Unicode language to English United States, and now the game works... finally.

So, if anyone here has a different language setting for Non-Unicode programs other then English, this game most probably will not work as it has in my case.

No patches, no mods, nothing whatsoever...
Besides, since I live in Israel, I do not really know what version I have, the UK, the US, the Canadian version... how can I know for sure?
There are patches for each and every version, so you may imagine what hassle it is to try each patch, each one in a different installation attempt.

So, good luck and Godspeed to you all :)
