Can Jan be saved?

Post by bipbap »

I've run into a weird bug. I have Jan in my party and I use the E-scripts for all the characters. In one battle, Jan polymorphed himself into a Gnoll. After the battle, I took that spell out of his spell list, so he wouldn't do that anymore. After resting, Jan stayed a Gnoll. The option to change back to a human is gone and he can't cast spells now as a Gnoll. Is there a way to use Shadowkeeper to either change him back or at least give him back his spellcasting?

Give him the cloak of the sewers and have him use it.

Just go back to the save right before you removed the spell. You did keep a saved game before making your changes, just in case any problems occurred, didn't you?

Unfortunately for me, I inadventently saved over the one save I had left where he was 'normal.' I didn't realize right away that there was a problem so I wasn't as careful as I should have been. But the cloak of the sewers is a brilliant idea. I will try that as soon as I can. If I am hosed, then so be it. But I thought I would give this a shot.

Have you tried putting the spell back, then? At least, for a bit?

I did try that, but in Gnoll form he can't cast spells, unless that's another part of the bug. I actually wouldn't mind him in that form, I think its kinda funny to think that one of Jan's spells caused an accident. But it would be nice to get the spellcasting back.

Thanks for the efforts.

Your bug isn't related with the scripts you assigned to your characters and the fact that you took out this spell didn't change anything.

The "polymorph self" spell has a certain duration, when it's over the polymorph option is removed and you change back to humanoid.
But under certain conditions the game "forgets" to change back (it's not intended, it's a bug), it happend in my game when Jan-slime was acting as meatshield for 3 heavily firing gauths.
If you do another shapechange everything should be OK again, but since gnolls can't cast spells you'll have to use the "cloak of the sewers" for shapeshifting.
If fighting goblins in the temple district sewers to get the cloak is too hard for you you can also try a "polymorph other" spell if you know how to revert it.

I do have the cloak, so I will try that ASAP, which will be tonight. And thank you for the idea.

Let us know if that works. If so, it's the kind of solution we could well pass on to others.

Jan is saved! Kmonster is brilliant. I gave him the cloak of the sewers, turned him into a rat and then back into the turnip loving gnome that he is. Thanks for the help. I love this site.

Glad to hear it. Gnolls are a bloody bore, and Jan is one of the most fun characters in the game. :)
