nwn 2 game to slow
i bought nwn 2 an i started a new game but everything go's real slow i checked everything i can think of nut i cant seem to fix the problem ca some one plz tell me what i can do plz i have been waiting to play this game an now that i have it i cant plz help:
Exactly - post your specs. I am running the following:
Athlon XP2000
512 meg ram
ATI 9600XT video
I can run the game at 1024x768 with high quality textures but there are slowdowns and its not optimal. At 800x600 things run smoothly but the overall look of the game suffers.
To really run this one right I would recommend at least a P4 3.0ghz or Athlon 64 3000+ processor with 1 gig of Ram and a 6600GT or X800 or better video card. I will be upgrading soon and for now I will just live with the 800x600 resolution

If you click on the start menu and go to "settings" then "control panel" then "system" the first page will display your processor type and speed as well as the amount of RAM you have installed.
If you right click on your desktop and go to "properties" then "settings" the name and model of your grapics card will be displayed.
If your system meets minimum requirements you can start the game and go go to display settings and lower the resolution to the minimum (800x600) and see if that helps.
Other things to look for:
- Make sure you are not running any other programs - shut down all background applications before launching the game
- Have you defragged your hard drive lately?
- Do you run a virus and spyware remover regularly?

Best thing I can suggest right now is to post your system specifications. Meaning, post your Processor Speed, your Memory, and your Graphics card specs.
To do this, hit start >>> Run and type in DxDiag. Under the system tab, type everything you see in the "Processor" and "Memory" fields.
Then go over to the display tab and also post the Name of your card and the approx. total memory of it.

You do not meet the speed or video card requirements.
You have a 1.8 and at best, a 2.2 Ghz processor, it requires a 2.4 and recommends 3.0 ghz. You also do not have the required video card, as the earliest supported is X300, X200 being lower than that will not work well at all with it.Recommended:
- 3+ GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
- 1+ GB System RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT series or higher video card (or equivalent ATI card)
Minimum System Requirements:
- Windows XP
- 512MB System RAM
- 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
- 128MB Direct3D compatible video card with DirectX 9.0c compatible driver (must support shader model 2.0)
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- 4.6GB free hard disk space
- DirectX 9.0c (included)
- DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
- Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework for toolset (included)
- Broadband connection for multiplayer online play
- Keyboard, Mouse
Supported Video Cards:
- ATI Radeon X1900 series
- ATI Radeon X1800 series
- ATI Radeon X1600 series
- ATI Radeon X1300 series
- ATI Radeon X850 series
- ATI Radeon X800 series
- ATI Radeon X700 series
- ATI Radeon X600 series

Not to mention that is a laptop right? You have to shell out some big bucks to get a laptop with an equivalent current generation video card.
Dell/HP and others are now making laptops that approach desktop gaming performance levels - but you are going to pay for it. For the most parts laptops are built for business or school applications, not for gaming (unless you bring a wheelbarrow full of cash)

If this is a laptop chances are that the graphics are integrated. If graphics are integrated then unfortunately the answer is no...could it be that my chip type is ATI radeon x200 series an i think i need higher is the a way i can make it

ATI x200 is allways integrated....
I wouldn't even try to play that game on a laptop that isn't of the latest generation and has a decent video card and at least 1 Gyte of RAM.
Sorry to tell you this RosemaryB, but your system is to slow to play the game, that's the price you pay for having a portable computer, usually not much of a hardware interior.

I've got a pretty new laptop myself and the game runs but very slow as well. Runs great on my gaming desktop though, too bad I travel alot..
I will probably price out some stuff for my laptop but at $1200 with top of the line stuff 10 months ago, it's pretty bad with this game and would not open Oblivion.

A turion in a desktop? Is this one of those slim line HPs? HP makes a line of computers that is a small form factor and uses laptop motherboards and processors to save space. If thats what you have then you basically have a laptop masquerading as a desktop. And if that is the case you really don't have any way to upgrade the video card which is your bottleneck for this game.
Rosemary B - as darkpark pointed out I would suggest you go into game options and turn down the texture quality and move the resolution down to 800x600. Then see how the game runs - if it is still too slow then I would suggest you consider returning NWN2 and/or selling your copy. If you don't have the hardware the game is just not going to run well for you. I have to turn down the graphics to play the game well and I have a higher spec machine than you. I will live with it for now as I will be uprading to a new rig before the end of the year.
On a brighter note - if you would like suggestions for games that would run well on your system let me know. For instance - the original NWN would run just fine on your system and you can pick up the Platinum edition that includes the original game and the two expansions for cheap. Your system is not powerful enough to run the new crop of games like NWN2 - but that doesn't mean you can't play games - there are many good games that are a few years old that you can pick up cheap. Newer is not always better...

Rosemary B - you should consider giving Baldur's Gate 2 a try. It is imo a lot better than neverwinter 1, even though the graphics are outdated.
I enjoyed NWN1 + expansions and i'm considering buying the sequel. I would like to play it on my labtop as well as desktop. I'm not much into hardware but I think it will be difficult my labtop specs are:
AMD TURION 64 x2 (dual core) 1,61 GHZ
1 GB RAM
128 MB VIDEO RAM
NVIDIA GFORCE 7600
I figure that it will be difficult since the game isn't using dual core? right?

I agree with all of that, save the last part. The graphics of BG2 are not outdated: they're excellent 2D. They simply aren't 3D. And given the horrendous hardware requirements for games such as Oblivion and the like, without any commensurate addition to game quality, I'm inclined to think 2D is perfectly fine.
Rosemary, be sure to check out Planescape: Torment, as well. Many of us consider it the most intelligent RPG ever made.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
