I'm kind of disappointed

Post by DarthMalevolent »

After playing KotOR I through several times, I'd finally exhausted it's fun and went out to get KotOR II...

I never use walkthroughs the first time through a game, so I always miss stuff and fail to advance certain plots and all that stuff - that's fine, I own that. I also take a really long time to finish my first game, because I spend so much time running around trying to figure out what to do next...

But my impression of KotOR II was that the combat was WAY too easy. The final confrontation between (won't give any spoilers away here) a certain Sith Master and Apprentice was a piece of cake compared to the final battle with Malak in KotOR I - heck, the combat with the peons on the Star Forge just getting to Malak was more difficult...

Am I wrong? Did I have an atypical experience? Maybe I just built my character too strong? My character was a light side Guardian/Weaponmaster, BTW, and I DID concentrate on building up his melee combat ability far more than I did his force powers.

I liked the game overall - much more complex than the original, lots of good storylines and plot twists and stuff... I just found the combat boring.

Am I alone in this?

I found the combat somewhat harder than in KotoR, though neither required any more brains to win, given the combat AI, than a lobotomized mink.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Well, the combat is still challenging at first but much later into the game, with better stats and weaponry plus the increased level cap, the combat becomes much more manageable. In KOTOR 1, thanks to the level cap, the combat can become difficult at times, especially the fight to reach Malak at the Star Forge. Not only that but also the fact that the enemies kept respawning and come in numbers also make the combat harder and more frustrating to me. That's why I prefer KOTOR 2 because you can make a more sturdy character compared to KOTOR 1.

The plot was just okay to me, until somewhere near the end of the game. I'm not a fan of complex stories but as what someone said, if the plot manages to tie in the loose ends, I don't mind. Didn't happen in KOTOR 2 and I was left disappointed at the fact that not a lot of things are explained properly and the number of plot holes that exist in the game.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

I played KOTOR and I am currently playing KOTOR II. I find that at the beginning some battles are hard because you don't have the best items and best powers. But at the end you are so powerful that any battle is a piece of cake. With KOTOR I found the final battle a piece of cake with my Guardian, but I don't know yet in KOTOR II since I haven't finished yet.

I found the combat a little easier in Kotor2 but only because I was so used to the overall combat system after playing Kotor 1 several times. I wouldn't say its any easier overall though as both games are pretty easy with the right kind of builds and powers. As fable said, the biggest problem for me with the combat is just the poor computer AI.

I found it harder in KOTOR 2 at the first few planets and easier at the end, except for Malachor V.KOTOR was the way it should be never really easy and a few hard spots, with the giant clash of Sith at the end on the Star Forge. :)
Here is a wise saying from Luke Skywalker, "NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!" And that was a word from Luke. Have a nice day! :)
