Combat in the Guardrd Compound

Here I am in the Guarded Compound, upstairs. There is an encounter with some baddies here; oone of them is names "Ketta", who is invisible. Apparently a thief, Ketta appears, backstabs, and uses a seemingly endless supply invisibility potions (I think) to disappear again. I MAY have the opportunity to get in one swing while he/she is visible.
I cannot target him/her while invisible.

I've tried true sight; detect invisibility; invisibility purge. All reveal Ketta, but another potion is quaffed and *poof* no Ketta until the next backstab.

I've GOT to be missing something. Why is this being such a problem?

Ketta has at least 10 potions of invisibility. He is manageable if you fight with AI on. I think the most efficient way of fighting the 2nd floor of Guarded Compound is the "change area" strategy:
1. Turn AI off.
2. Peek your nose upsrairs.
3. Run downstairs.
4. Turn AI on.
5. Hack down those who followed you downstairs.
6. Repeat until somebody follows you downstairs.
7. Do the same at the 2nd stairs up.
This allows you to fight downstairs where are no traps and you can turn AI on. With AI on, Ketta gets harmed whwenever he appears.

Thank you, Radek.

I had thought about this strategy but not put it to use yet. I used it in the Den of the Seven Veils to good effect.

Few victories will be as satisfying as finally killing that annoying thief, Ketta.

You can do better than that.

I did it with a group of average lvl 8.

Take the left stairs while under invisibility 10' radius (Jan has this spell).

Upstairs, the mage should not cast detect because you will not be in his line of sight.

You can then use Jan to detect and disarm traps.

When this is done, go to the end of this big room and enter the one to the right, this will be your fort for a while.

You can then summon skeletons (Viconia). Don't send them right away, but if you want to haste your group, now is the time because you will also haste the skeletons. Place your spellcasters where they can cast spells in the doorway, and arrange your tanks just by the door.

Send one runner to pull some badies. By moving to the right, you'll trigger the mage to cast his detect invisibility spell.

The fighters will go to you and the mage will try to cast dispel magic. Let him succeed and run from the magic sprite of the dispel spell and from the fighters. These will follow you into the ambush you've set up.

But before you get to close to the rest of your group, go to the left, so only that runner will be affected by the dispel magic (the enemy will have lost one good spell).

The AI of the badies is not that good and one is programmed to defend the mage. Most of the time, only the kensai with celestial fury will come after you. Fine by me.

Kill him with your offensive spells while the tanks block his way. He'll fell really fast.

You now have Celestial Fury to battle the rest of the badies.

Take all your group and the skeletons to the left of the big room. Slowly advance with the skeletons really in the front. They'll be the target of the first spells.

Chaos will be wasted on them because they are immune to it. You can now yourself cast Chaos on them (Nalia has the spell) and then support the skeletons with missile fire.

See how fast they will all die! Image

As I said, my group was average level 8 when I did this (my kensai, Korgan, Jan, Nalia, Viconia and Anomen).

The first thing I did was make sure everyone was invisible and then run them upstairs and into the side room so that they wouldn't get in the way.

then I quicksaved.

The next thing was the combat. I picked off the mages and the big bastards off with ranged and close combat, but for ketta, (she came into the room) I just put everyone onto their close combat weapons, and then spread them out a bit. Everytime ketta would appear, she would get hammered by Aerie, Yoshimo, Jaheira or Minsc (I have a party of 5)

For all invisible creatures I turn on close combat so when they try to backstab, they get nailed fast, or cast a spell.
