Ever get Jaheira to dual-weild?

Post by Klorox »

I've never done it, but now I'm considering it. With Ironskins and a STR belt, she's a great tank, and shouldn't be taking damage anyway.

It might be a good idea, especially as some of those weapons have nice spell-based extras. Plus, she can always cast spells to increase her AC. What weapons were you thinking of trainng her in?

Way back when, before ToB, I used her always. It's ture, if you know what you're doing she could be a potent tank and front line fighter, but in my opinnion, she's better off as a support caster... or at least starting the battle by summoning elementals.

I don't know yet. Currently, I've got her with ** in Scimitar, Dagger, and Club. There isn't much more for a Druid to get, but I don't know where I'd go from here. The best offhand weapon I can think of for her is Belm +2.

I can't think of any weapons that add spells for Druids.

That's what I'd use, with SPectral Brand +5 in my main hand.

I wonder though, if you do the Watcher's Keep in SoA, and go over to ToB, can you do it once more?

If it is possible, then you could, if you wanted to, wield an unupgraded Spectral Brand +4 as well.

No can do. Once you've finished Watcher's Keep, that's it. It doesn't reset.

Yeah, there are 2 weapons from the expansion that - one said already - are good for Jaheira to dual-wield. Highlight for light spoiler.
Spoiler
1) Spectral Brand, like Crenshinibon said. Gotta love the Deck of Many Things!

2) Club of Detonation. This is also a Watcher's Keep item.
As far as daggers go, I'd really only suggest the Boneblade +4 out of SoA Chpt. 5. Even then, that should really go to a dagger-wielding thief first, if you have one.

It's an interesting possibility, and as a tank I found her reasonably successful single wielding a club and shield. Still, I too preferred using her as a caster for the Druid only insect plagues and nature's beauty (plus, her fighter skills make her a good shot with Harm). I always found her quite deadly with a sling and was so content with that I never really contemplated using her as a full time tank.

She doesn't have enough good single-handed weapons available to have interested me in getting her to dual-wield.

I always set her up for the sword & shield style and using either the Sling of Seeking or the Sling of Everard depending upon the circumstances of the encounter.

In general as soon as an encounter starts Jaheira casts Bless, Chant, and Defensive Harmony. Most encounters don't last long enough for her to attack via melee so she stays ranged. If it is a big encounter then she casts Strength of One on the weaker party members and then most everybody attacks via melee.

I give her the (red) dragon-scale armour plus a helm with AC benefits, plus gauntlets, possibly a protective cloak and then finally Belm and Rashid's Talon - both available in the trademeet/grove campaign. Belm goes left slot, Talon right. she thus gets an attack bonus and has 2x+2 weapons.
the gauntlets that I usually give her are the ogre power ones, but you could give weapon skill and a girdle of strength instead.

she enjoys getting stuck in to sword fights in my party and whilst not a tank, she can deal damage and be at -5 AC or thereabouts.

I didn't remember that Spectral Brand was her kind of sword - as I recently acquired it, I'll pass it on to her.

with the STR bonus - if I have her ranged - I use the sling of seeking and a big shield and boots of avoidance/cloak-type protection from missiles. she actually scores quite a few kills using +3 bullets.

I didn't use to have her do much fighting and used the clerical side of her druidity instead - I now use the clerical side as part of an aggressive fighter, second to somebody like Keldorn or Minsc or the PC (if relevent). I can do this through using Anomen or Vicky or Aerie as the main cleric.

I also have her fire resistance at 100% usually, so if she did use the club of detonation, she could do so safely.

Jaheira is really useful npc because of her stats, druid spells, her hp's but it was hard for me to find her suitable melee weapons.Sling of seeking is very useful and its the best ranged weapon for Jaheira because of damage bonus of strength, but it is not enough for a fight. She has good AC and hitpoints as a tank, but I preferred choosing Keldorn as a tank with Carsomyr instead of Jaheira because she can't damage heavily in combat. Finally I've kicked her to the Harper base for later use
