Double Bladed or Double Blades?

Post by Danciss Lome »

Ok, I dont know a whole lot about the technical aspects of two weapon fighting so I have to ask which is better to use, a double-bladed lightsabre/ weapon or two lightsabres/ weapons?

In my opinion, two lightsabers are much better than the double-blade lightsaber since you can easily mow down groups of enemies better with one lightsaber in each hand. The good thing about one lightsaber in each hand is that you can customise it with crystals and upgrades in each lightsaber whereas in the double-bladed lightsaber, you can only customise that lightsaber even though it has 2 blades. Wish you can do that on both sides of the blade but pity no one has ever thought about it. :(

in general two sabers is the "more powerful" option - since you can use more crystals and upgrades - lenses ect...

that being said, in the midgame when crystals are fewer it may be more economical to use more double bladed sabres. (also for the most part my jedi friends are likely to use double bladed sabres)

ideally, you would start with a double bladed, then switch to 2 sabres once you get some powerful crystals & upgrades.

But, I believe there is a 'to hit' penalty with 2 weapons & makes you miss more than with a single weapon. There is also the off hand penalty until you master the 2 weapon fighting. But all in all I preferr the 2 sabers compared to a double, if anything for looks.

id say that double bladed is more powerful, it does more damage and is more accurate.for crystals, well out of 4 crystals 2 are going to be more powerful so u actually get more bang from them if u put them in a double bladed (cuz its having 2 lighsabers with the 2 best crystals).

But 2 blades are so much cooler me thinks...so i use that, kotr2 isnt hard so u dont have to powergame which is nice....

Agreed. And that is what irritates me the most about the two-handed weapon method, even though it looks cool and lethal at the same time. Even though I managed to get both my off-hand and main hand at the + section, there is a high chance that I'll miss some guy whose dexterity is high enough to dodge most (if not all incoming blows).

In truth, I don't fancy using dual-bladed lightsabers but I have to admit that its far more effective in terms of accuracy. In addition, when using the throw lightsaber method, you will deal double damage compared to using a single-bladed lightsaber. Even when you dual wield 2 lightsabers, you throw only one, and that's on the main hand. Gee, I wish that you can throw both lightsabers instead of one.

i've won the game 3 times and every time i've used one lightsaber in each hand. as des said, you can customize both the sabers instead just the one on the double.,

good luck

didnt know the double bladed attacked twice when u threw it, pretty neat id say.
still two blades (not the short ones, but reall lightsabers one in each hand) are way cooler, atleast i think so ;)

Two bladed sabers have more damage and also a single crystal gives bonus both blades.

But two sabers are have an advantage of using first blade(that you use it in four of your attacks[speed+flurry]) to give damage and using other to increase your stats...

like most, my vote is for the 2 sabers. The more upgrades in your lightsaber, the more advantages you’re granted. Imo there’s really no reason to go for the double-bladed one except for RP’ing reasons or if you find it cooler looking.

As regards your question, I’m not too sure. Afaik, having a double-bladed lightsaber grants the same “to hit” decrease on your off-hand just as it would if you were holding a separate lightsaber in your off-hand, doesn’t it?
There are no stupid questions. Only stupid people.

yeah but consular have there power in the force...so when i playd k1/2 with consular i used doublebladed lightsaber as defens and used my force as attack.

For the most part, I would reccomend two singles, since they offer a lot more flexibility than a double. The only real problem with two singles is that if you want them to have good performance, it'll put a huge hole in your wallet to pimp them out sufficiently. If you're just going for maximum damage in your saber, or you just want to be a darkside badass, I would suggest a double blader, since it's got a pretty substantial damage advantage.
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.

For a Consular/Jedi Master, definately go with two sabers. My first game I went with only a single blade for style. One should be short to offset the penalties which are steep for a consular/JediMaster. I like having two sets. The first set has +Wisdom Crystals and Blaster Deflection. These are your mauin sabers as a consular/master. They boost your power and defense. You can then switch to your second set when you feel like cutting into stuff or need to get some saber action goig cause force wave is not stunning or getting a good knockdown.

2X Kaiburr, 2X Kasha, 2X Ultimate Diatum (you could put ion here if you want, but i just use destroy droid), 2X Expert Deflection Emitter, 2X Ossus Dueling for one set

2X Ankares Sapphire, 1X Solar Crystal, 1X Named Crystal, 2X Ultimate Diatum, 2X Refined Fobium, 2X Enhanced Byrothesis Lens

Obviously you need to get lucky to find this stuff, but a setup like that is sweet. I had a ridiculous amount of sabers so you might as well pimp out. Too bad good crystals are hard to come by.

Im going to refer to the movies quickly... In episode I, darth Maul seemed poised for victory until he got cocky and was sliced in half by Obi-wan. In episode II, Anikan used to single-blades against Count Duku, which didn't last very long after it got knocked out of his hands. Movie wise, I would go with the double-blade.

BUT, since this is about the game im going to give the nod to two single-blades considering how much more powerful two upgraded lightsabers are compared to one upgraded lightsaber.

One thing that no one is taking into consideration is the damage that you suffer penalty when you use two lightsabers. Let me illustrate this with a simple explanation:

When damage is calculated, a strength bonus is applied. We all know that the more strength we have, the more damage we deal. To calculate this, the game considers the strength modifier that the character has (+1 at Str 12, +2 at Str 14, etc.). However, the amount of damage that is added depends on what weapon style we use.
  • If you use only one blade, the strength mod is multiplied by 1.5 and then added to damage. If you have a 4-20 damage with your lightsaber (not considering any feats or other bonuses) and a +6 strength mod (around 22 strength), then your final damage output will be 13-29 (4 + 6 * 1.5 and 20 + 6 *1.5).
  • If you use a two-bladed weapon (a staff-type lightsaber, for example), the strength multiplier is 1.5 for the main hand and 1.0 for the off-hand. So, the damage using the main hand is equal to that of a single-bladed weapon and you have an extra hit with less damage.
  • If you use two lightsabers, the strength multipliers are 1.0 for the main hand and 0.5 for the off-hand. This means that, if you have a +10 strength mod, the main hand receives an extra +10 damage and the off-hand receives only 5.
The only real advantage of having two weapons instead of one is that you can use more crystals and upgrades and get higher defense / blaster deflection. The damage, however, is lower. This is not only because of the strength multipliers, but also because you can't set your two best crystals on both lightsabers. One of them will always be worse than the other.

A final comment: if you use cheats to get 4 "your name" crystals, then of course it would be best to use two lightsabers instead of one.

[Edited]
I prefer using only one blade. In my opinion, the extra defense and attack is always welcome. Also, consider that four strong hits in a row using a single blade may be as effective as five weak hits with two blades.

2 sabers for sentinels, weaponmasters and marauders(most balanced in close combat),1 for force using classes(not so good attack) and double bladed for guardians assassins and watchmans(Guardian can actually use anything, but i meant guardians which have each of these as prestige classes.Guardian is not a sneaky class, but they have pretty good fightibg abilities. So, the point is this
kill/stun+ close combat abilities of guardian+ SNEAK ATTACK= pretty dead enemies) :) .

I like to use 1 double bladed lightsaber instead of 2 single bladed sabers.
This for the simple reason that it looks better in my eyes.
Especially the silver color is perfect, especially when it cuts through my enemies.
My favourite combination is:
Cell: Ultimate Diatium Energy Cell (5)
Emitter: Expert Fencing Emitter (3)
Lens: Pontite Lens (2-12)
The crystals tend to vary on which are available at the time.
Btw. anybody ever tried the Pontite crystal and Barab Ore Ingot in one sabre?
