No-Reloads update:

Post by Klorox »

Just to let y'all know, Gnick O'Thyme has made it all the way from Candlekeep as a level 1/1 little gnome Cleric/Illusionist to the beginning of ToB without a reload (now level 17/15)!

YAY! Did I express how happy I am for getting this far!

BTW, I've only beaten ToB once before, so this one is going to be really tough for me to beat.

Well done i must say, but honestly i think ToB is going to be too much..

Especially Abazigal is hard to kill the first time, but good luck.

Do you have ascension installed? Without it, I think it might be doable. I expect my no reloads challenge to stop either at Ascension's Sendai, or more likely, Ascension's Abazigal. (I am now about to head off to rescue imoen with my Dwarven Fighter Thief. I have actually survived a saving throw vs. disintegration by 2 or 3, so I am very happy with my choice of race).

Just so you know, Ascension does not improve Sendai. That would be Oversight, hosted at the G3 site.

Well that's good, sendai was hard enough in my opinion. I still think my dwarf will kick the bucket at abazigal though.

Well done indeed. Just hope that you don't fall at the last hurdle. All the best!

Well done. I have a gnome fighter/illusionist named...Mytzylplyk!
I am planning a 4 person no reloads game when I finish my current one. I will be a fighter-thief of some sort and will use what is left of my party from BGI (Minsc, Jaheira, and Immie). I think it can be done since when I got near the end of the first one my pc an Minsc were doing most of the work anyways.

Improved Sendai is nearly, if not completely impossible to beat in a no deaths, no reloads game. The amount of Drow harassing you, combined with the number of Dragon Breaths and other devastiting spells tends to add an element to the game which demands great timing, focus and especially luck. I've never pulled if off so far, but then again, I've never tried it in a solo game or with a mage PC.

The same story actually goes for Ascension. Truth be told, I've never even finished SoA with a no deaths, no reloads game, although I have to admit I never tried it without mod's. The vanilla game isn't as tempting as it once was.

Congratulations, Klorox. That's quite a feat.

I just started a no-reloads game of my own, but I'm not being as strict about it as you are. I'm starting with BG2 (not BG1), and I don't know if I'll make it all the way through SOA. I have installed some of the components from the Ease-of-Use mod and the G3 Tweak Pack (mostly things like infinite stacking and bottomless containers, along with a few visual enhancements). One reason why I'm taking a few liberties is because I'm playing a Wild Mage. My party will consist of Saerileth (edited to be an Inquisitor), Jan, Aerie, and Imoen, who will be--you guessed it--another Wild Mage. I've been using Yoshimo (edited to be a 7th level Kensai dualled to a Thief), but he won't be a permanent party member. I might need another tank, but I left Minsc in Irenicus's dungeon (I pretended that he and Jaheira didn't exist), and I'm already too far along to start over. I might use Mazzy, but I was thinking about using Sarevok if I make it to TOB.

Let us know how you do in TOB and what sort of trouble spots you run into. If you think of a creative way to deal with a particular challenge, let us know.

GAME OVER!

I had just finished Lum the Mad's machine, and when I arrived at the next level I recognized it as a place where I had a lot of trouble last time I played ToB. I decided I'd go for some more XP first and face the second challenge in my Pocket Plane. Little Gnick O'Thymes evil twin broke down my Stoneskins so fast an landed a killing blow. Ugh. I was pretty good on the defense as well, but I'm upset that he was still able to attack me after I cast "Sanctuary." Now THAT'S cheesey IMO.

For the record: I had killed Yaga-Shura before starting Watchers Keep and getting as far as I did. :(
