INT capped at 20?

Post by De_Priester »

I started a Wizard, human neutral good

I have a headband of intellect and my int is at 18 base. Now while wearing the headband I have 20 intellect so a +5 bonus. I just found Deekan, selling a nice ring of clear thought, +1 int on it. I put it on and my int remains at 20. Does this mean my INT cannot be higher than 20? How can this be, 20 INT max isn't that much and more importantly it would mean I seriously picked the wrong starting attributes on character creation.

Is it true that 20 is the INT cap? Can other races get more? Should I still get more points into INT on levelup and replace the items that give INT with something else?

Some feedback please

Stat bonuses on equipment don't stack. You just get the best of the bonuses.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Heh? So you can't wear a ring that gives +2 INT and a amulet with +1 INT and a Headband that gives +2 INT and expect it will give you 5 INT total? mmmz kinda makes sense I think, but that means I also need to switch my gear around a little seeing I wear two rings of protection +1

Dang kinda stinks but ok...

*nods* You can go quite a bit higher than 20, but SWCarter is right. Enhancement bonuses from items and spells to attributes do not stack. Think of it as like trying to wear two pairs of shoes which are the same size at once. It just won't work out well. :p

With BDG when you tried to wear a ring with protection +1 while wearing an armor with protection +1 it would simply not work, when equiping something here it doesn't give the same "warning" I'll save the ring for now and maybe hope for a +3 int item.

Well, that's where it gets complicated...a Ring of Protection uses a Deflection Bonus to AC. A Chain Shirt +2 has an Enhancement bonus to AC. Those will work in conjunction with each other. A set of Gauntlets of Ogre Power +2 and a Belt of Giant Strength +4 will not however, as they are both Enhancement bonuses.

To add even more complexity, items that give AC Dodge modifiers DO stack. These are very valuable and should be hoarded...
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night.
Set a man afire, and he'll be warm the rest of his life.
