Help with Final battle
How the hell do I get past Irenicus Bodhi and the Solar's ??????? I'm really getting tired of Irenicus' cheese I killed him twice why won't hestay dead????
The solars seem to resurect as I had killed 2 of them only to find 1 appear at the top of the circle thing again later in the battle
That she-dog Imoen Turned on me and of course when she's not on my side she is about 1000x more powerfull than then when on the team I swear next time she's getting chunked or rotting in spellhold or both. I only ever kept her with me for roleplaying purposes but this is the last straw.
I'm reallly tired of having to go through the same god damn conversasion sequence again and again
specificly, please tell me how to k.o Irenicus without chunking Imoen in the process who always seems to be at the wrong place at the wrong time
I have Nalia Aerie Korgan Minsc and a Cavalier protagonist

No one forced you to alter your game with crazy mods.
You installed this madness, now enjoy it. It's only fair if not only your party uses cheese.
The first thing I'd try is turning down the difficulty to "very easy".
Another option is to use the cheat console. If you don't know to use it do a little research.
PS: Maybe you should mention which mods you used to spoil your game.

Ascension only. Don't ge me wrong; I've enjoyed it so far. the Battles with Yaga-Shura and Abazigal were well worth it. I did'nt notice any change in the Gromnir or Sendai fights, although both were improved they still could'nt begin to challange my party.
The Yaga-shura fight was the hardest one as the massive hordes wore me down for 5 minutes untill finally Yaga-shura arrived it took 50 potions hit and fade tacticts and empyting my spell book down to level 1 spells to win that fight. (and ressurecting 3 dead team mates)
Improved abazigal was the best fight in the whole game, the difficulty was just right: challanging, I had to use tactics, but doable. there was light at the end of the tunnel so to speak
now this fight in the throne of bhaal........ my arcane power is essentially cut by half because of Imoen's problem. the Solars always manage to chunk at least 1 person. and whats worse, they cast improved invisibility then heal when near death. judgeing by the fact that it takes my 3 tanks at least 2 rounds to kill one outright using GWW, it would seem that each has on the order of 200-300 hp. Another problem is that they seem to see all my invisible people Aire has staff of Magi and they have no problem targeting her when she reequips and runs aways from Irenicus' nuke zone to heal
Bodhi and Irenicus are'nt that much of a problem, Irenicus always targets my protagonist who has 80% MR and bodhi's attacks are nowhere near those of Slayer imoen + most of my party is immune to her level drain.
I know I'll have to cheese my way past this fight......... but I'm pretty noob when it comes to cheese I never use it
edit: I'm using Core rules
Edit 2: come on
I'm sure there are plenty of people out here who can easly do this fight. Ascension is a common mod after all. It all comes down to strategy, please help

Point 1: Sendai is not improved with Ascension. Gronmir is, however.
Point 2: Allies and defences are key here. Summon all the allies you can. Planetars, Deva's, Elementals, Mordie's Swords, etc. should provide valuable help. Protect Aerie and Nalia with spells such as Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Spell Immunity (Abjuration, Divination), Spell Shield, etc. Cleric spells such as Death Ward en Chaotic Command are always handy.
Keep Immie occupied with summons until she transforms back. Let Minsc handle Bodhi (he should be powerful enough by now) and let your Cavalier take care of Irenicus, and use Korgan and Nalia to take out the Solar.
Use Aerie as backup for Nalia and Korgan, or whomever on your four fronts needs it.
The summons are there to distract Immie and beat the Solar. You are there to occupy Irenicus, Minsc for Bodhi, and your other three characters to beat the Solar. As you say, the raise dead ability is incredibly annoying, so it has no use to beat any of the others before the Solar is gone.

This battle just is'nt working for me
. I'm going to have to go shopping to purchase a few wish scroll's so I can rest between fights. I actually managed to beat this once with noone getting chunked. It was a fluke, but now I know it's doable. sigh I've done 50 tries so far
for some reason chain contingency 3x mordenkeinen's sword set on seeing enemy - target nearest enemy does'nt work ?? any comments ??
after school I'm going to try mirror image, blur, globe of invulnerability protection from magic weapons and stone skin on my mages - extreme uber-buffing
looks like I'm going to have to use good old project image/summon planetar
+ regeneration, Duhm, chaotic commands, AoF, and improved haste on the tanks
how is Bodhi's MR ?? will time stop/harm work on her?? it did'nt on the planetar's
If I could consistently knock out 1 enemy right as the fight starts that would Improve my odds considerably. the problem is that Irenicus casts some kind of improved invisibility and true sight does'nt work while time stopped
I'm essentially bashing my head against a concrete wall trying to think of how
to cheese my way through this fight.
@Sytze are you sure Sendai was'nt upgraded ?? it says so in the read me, but what you said would explain the ease of which I beat that fight.

Well, if you want to cheese it, cast a protection from magic scroll on Irenicus, and cut him down.
Otherwise:
1) I don't remember for sure, but I don't recall Irenicus et al. being immune to time stop. It would be a good idea to have Nalia cast one. I think it's possible to go into a standard improved alacrity spellbook-emptying. But still, if that's not possible for you, you can:
2) Be sure to go after Irenicus directly with Carsomyr and Staff of Magi. I remember that he casts Simulacrum here, so try to go after the main one first if you can figure it out. Have a mage hit him with Power Word Blind.
3) Have whoever's wearing the amulet of power chop down Bodhi quickly, She really shouldn't be too hard with a GWW. Minsc with his vampire bonus may be up to it the most. I don't remember for sure, but I think she may even have been left vulnerable to Azuredge/Mace of Disruption. Sunray via daystar or Aerie could be used as well.
4) If invisibility is causing problems, have Nalia and Aerie set up with contingencies for True Sight. Korgan and Minsc should just go after the Solars directly, right from the start. Try Critical Strikes instead of GWW. You're guaranteed to hit and the Solars don't wear helmets, so you should get the double damage. Assuming you're getting 4 hits per round off dual wielding - that should pretty much be 1 round kills.
Do you have access to Power Word Kill scrolls? Have Nalia or Aerie--perhaps having projected image to start--take the Solars down with PWK if you think they're below 60hp and might heal before you can kill them off. (frankly, I've found PWK invaluable for Ascension in general).
5) If your fighters are really getting taken out immediately by Vorpal hits, you may want to take the time to have Aerie set at least one of Korgan/Minsc up with a death ward to take on the Solars while using summons of some sort to occupy one until it can then be taken out by the death warded character.
5) Use rods of resurrection to heal wounded fighters as a ranged heal.
6) I haven't resorted to it before, and don't know how well it would work, but another option to deal with the Solars would seem to be to throw down a telly field. That will help with Bodhi and Imoen as well (slayer form may be immune). You'll basically be protected from Melee attack for a couple rounds, during which time you can get your bearings, summon some help, and take out Irenicus.
6) If you haven't been able to kill off the Irenicii early, you can try a x3 remove magic trigger (or chain contingency if you don't have one loaded) to dump his defenses. Perhaps follow up immediately with a x3 Horrid Wilting to see if it worked.

Woot
after another 10 tries using your advice, Ian, I got lucky and killed all of them with out 1 death. In the whole fight nobody dropped below 50%hp.
I chain contingencied 3 project Images with Nalia and then 2x Mordenkeinen's + 1x elemental summoning with Aire. the Projected Images each casted a planetar asap. Everybody on my team had death ward, chaotic commands haste/improved haste protection from evil, chant, Armour of faith and DuHM 2 tanks also had regeneration
my mages had stoneskin and minor globe of invulnerability so they would'nt be distrupted by fire arrows from the Solars
I think though I might have won due to a bit of luck Imoen was kind enough not to rape me and insted went for one of the Planetars
I'll keep you guys posted, as I have a feeling I may need help with the last fight with all 4 bhall spawn (Balthazar is helping me) I'm thinking good old time stop improved haste mind flayer cheese + time stop+ harm with aire to get rid of the tougher ones asap
again, thanks Ian, my success could have been posssible without you however at the cost of my sanity
Edit : ok I got to the final fight what should I do ?? what are the best two too kill before mellesan comes and how do I do it ?? I can dispatch Yaga-shura easly with time stop harm and I've noticed Gromnir and Sarevok are Vulnerable to Mind flayer cheese, however once Mellesan comes in Time stop is too dangerous to use effectively. also Illesara I'd say is the most dangerous of all of them however she disappears for time-stops ?? what tactics do you find effective is she vulnerable to mass nukeing ?? are any of them ??

Hmmm, it's interesting since I personally always play with Thieves, and have generally benefitted greatly in the Ascension battle from using Traps/Assassinations. Nonetheless:
1) You should set up buffs (stoneskins, improved hastes especially), True Sights, simulacrums, and planetars in advance of the battle before (or immediately after since there is some lag time) activating the final pool. Make sure that you move the summons down to the bottom of the screen so you can control them once you are transported there. It would probably be to your benefit to have at least one mage loaded with a x3 lower resistance trigger to eventually use on Melissan.
For a bit of extra cheesiness, have all your mages cast mislead around the last pool and keep the mislead clones there.
2) For your initial (and only, per Melissan) Timestop, I would go after Illasera first. You can always hit Yaga with the harm, and while he's tough, he doesn't have the crippling ability Illasera has. You can still go after Yaga first if you want, but I would then send Korgan immediately over to Illasera's area to cut her down with critical strikes. Have your planetars in that area too, so hopefully she won't actually be shooting at Korgan all the while.
One option is to have whoever has better sword proficiency between Imoen and Nalia have a trigger loaded with Prot. Magic Weapons/Improved Haste/Tenser's Transformation. Have that character work the time stop, activate the trigger on themselves, and go kill Illasera. Korgan can then be freed up for immediate duty against Sarevok/Gromnir/Abazigal. The T.Transformed Mage can then also be redirected to one of those three as well.
3) Melissan will come in but since you can't kill her until the rest are dead, just try to ignore her as best as possible. Besides, every time one of the others fall, she'll fall on her face for a round or so. Again, rods of resurrection are definitely your friend in this battle. This is the last battle in the whole game - use them unsparingly.
3) Target Sendai. Again, Prot. from Magic directly on her is the cheese way to do it, but if dealt with quickly, she can be dispatched well enough.
Power Word Blind and Storm of Vengeance should severely limit her casting ability in the short term. Use your Wands of Spell Striking breaches or just send the Paladin with Carsomyr to cut down her defenses. Try to then follow up quickly beating her up. She likes to heal but this, in particular, is where Power Word Kill is a life-saver. The moment she's listed at badly damaged, have one of the mages use the PWK. (Having a previously spawned Simulacrum with a scroll of PWK standing by is a good way to handle this)
3) Gromnir and Sarevok are pushovers. Sarevok doesn't even have a magical weapon. GWW kill them at your convenience.
4) Balthazar should hopefully have been at least able to keep Abazigal busy during this time. Again, it's a matter of breach via wand/Carsomyr, beating him up fast, and PWK for him.
5)Assuming everyone is still alive (or can be resurrected via rod), Melissan shouldn't be that hard now. Keep your Paladin trained on her since Carsomyr will be important for cutting through her improved mantles (it may have been a bug, but she cast at least 10 in a recent game of mine when I didn't have Carsomyr at +6 to cut through). If you can still get planetars or devas do that (other summons won't work since I think she has a scripted death spell for whenever that happens) and keep at least one of Minsc or Korgan on demon patrol. Unload the x3 lower resistance trigger if you did that, and you should now be able to land some horrid wiltings and such on her. Improved haste, GWW, Critical Strike, and anything you have left to inflict maximum melee damage, and she should go down soon enough.

I'm king of feeling like a noob
the only HLA my fighters have is GWW (best defense is good ofeense
)
I'm gonna try a mass spam of 30 Planetars and Mordy Swords + harm on Yaga-shura
Mislead copies by the pools good idea
I'm definitly taking a thief next time around assasination and trap cheese would be really handy here
Also where can I get rods of ressurection?? I kind of sold them all
I think I might have come across a few in shadows of amn but my team at the time was well balanced and I knew how to use it properly. I never had any trouble therefore foolishly (now in hindsight) assumed that tactics can get me through any fight virtually unscathed. (true for all but a few fights in the game) the only shopkeepers available to me are the ones in Amkathran at the temple, the barkeep, and the dude from Saradush with the Fancy scrolls. I do have a save before I went into the ToB so I can go there again. The Irenicus fight is now uber easy for me
Should I go back to Yaga-Shuras camp ?? If I rest there for a few days I'll bump my team from 7 million to 8 million which would give Aire an extra level 9 slot I believe, and would also give me a few shots of that Critical strike.
Will keep you guys posted
Edit: Ok just a bit more help needed I can almost pass the fight. Here is what is happening: I've got 20 planetars, 10 skeleton warriors and 2 heakshars camped out where Illesera Sendai and Abazigal spawn with a bit of luck sendai goes out quickly as does Illesera. Abazigal puts up a good fight but between breaches he can be overwhelmed and with luck dies. Aire goes up to Yaga and casts harm but Melessan is proving to be a formidable tank.
my best result so far is killing everybody except Yaga and melessan. I'm having a problem with aeire, for some reason she can't cast harm or it does'nt work ????? she did'nt get distrupted .......... and she had the misfortune of missing yaga the first time around...... if she had not missed him or one of the other 3 harms went of it would have been just me and Melessan. Alone I'm pretty sure I can take her
come to think of it if I had a thief I could probably set up 10 spike traps on abazigal and the rest would drop like flies ................ oh well next time
Also what's are the best spells for mellesan alone?? when I click on the pool I can restore all of them
planetars won't work b/c she mind controls them, but luckly they expire naturally usually as I'm (almost) finished with the 5
I've been at this fight 2 hours now sigh.... time to do some homework I'll be at it again tomorrow

Frankly, if your idea is to go all the way back to shoot a bunch of Yaga's soldiers from the tower, I'd say to just get yourself Shadowkeeper to realign your HLAs. As long as you're not giving yourself more HLAs in total, I wouldn't even really think of it as much of a cheat--a role-playing cheat if anything. GWW is great but can be a bit redundant with improved haste. Your Paladin would benefit the most from it, while I'd say dual-wielders are better off loading more heavily on critical strike. At least one Hardiness is a good thing to take as well.
In the same way, it's your call whether or not to just hack in the rods of resurrection. There are only two in the game - both from SoA. And again, don't forget that its key use is as a ranged Heal; don't wait for someone to actually die. You could pretty much have your Paladin facing off in melee with Melissan, and just have someone standing by with the rod (it comes with 10 charges) from across the platform to just give your Paladin 10 consecutive Heals, rather than worrying about wasting hits to drink potions or something. One of the most useful things in the game.
By the same token, it *is* possible to take down Yaga without Harm. It's hard, but workable. Having Minsc (he's the one with FoA, yes?) with improved haste will do steady damage to him given all its different kinds of damage all doing 1pt. on him. In fact, if you let him single wield it and then go GWW for its 10 hits per round, that would be an improvement. Storm of Vengeance also gives the same kind of multifarious damage. Throw in some blasts with wands of frost if you still have any (they'll actually do about 10 or so damage on him). With a potion of defense and a couple of rod of resurrection hits as needed, Minsc can comfortably hold out for the bunch of rounds it would take to work Yaga down to a power word kill level. Just make sure Sendai's gone so you don't break things in your room if he gets healed after such work. Attribute drain can work too. That said, stick with trying Harm as long as you can.
The Mordy swords and skeletons are basically worthless. Melissan can death spell them away instantly. Treat yourself to some different level-7 spells.
I wouldn't worry too much about spells with Melissan, particularly if you have Carsomyr. Just go beat her up. If anything, go with lower resistance (triggered if possible) and once the Five are gone horrid wiltings should do good damage. If you have the rod of reversal, that can be handy (for some reason I've found Carsomyr doesn't always work to dispel her defenses). I'd say to just concentrate on keeping your fighters buffed (improved haste particularly) and the demons at bay.

Personally, I would go for Sendai first. Why? For the exact same reason as why you should take out the Solar first: her healing abilities. One or two fighters with a backup mage to dispell the protections should be enough to take care of the drow.
As always, summons are key, as well as decent protection spells.
It might be a good idea to send Aerie (and only Aerie) to take care of Illasera. Have her use a Shield of Reflection or let her cast the spell Physical Mirror. An army of Modie's Swords usually does the trick too, though. On a more general note, every singly one of your mages should have at least two or more Protection from Magical Weapons spells memorized.
Speed is of prime essence here. Melissan has the tendency to show up quite early, and beating her is near impossible when her goons are still around. So try to take out Sendai and Illasera as soon as you can. Abazaigal, Yaga, and Saravok should be taken out last, preferably in that order. Use Nalia or Immie to keep the summons coming and to Breach your opponents.
You, Korgan and Minsc should move from opponent to opponent. Summons alone are usually not powerful enough to beat any of the Five, but they are able to hold there ground for some time while you and you allies move from opponent to opponent.
Spells which can greatly help you, are: Greater Restoration (if I recall correctly, this heals everyone of your characters fully, no matter where they are on the map), PfMW, Imp. Haste (even more useful than GWW), Hardiness (I'm unsure what Minsc is wielding, but if you combine Hardiness with Armor of Faith and the Defender of Easthaven, you can give him great protection from any weapon damage), Timestop, Improved Alacrity, and my own personal favourite: Shapechange. This spell is your personal defence and offence in one. Iron Golem for resistance and damage output, Greater Wolfwere for super-fast healing capabilities, and the Mindflayer form for cheese.
I could give you a whole lot of extra cheese possibilities, but you might want to finish Ascension without that for your own satisfaction. Besides, I'm sure you've read UU's cheeseguide yourself.
Good luck, at any rate!

Edit: Sometimes you simply can't beat an opponent, but that's because of the Mod itself and not because of you. It happened to me quite often. To quote the ReadMe:
Q: Sometimes the Five refuse to die in the final battle. They stay at
Near-Death, even if you use Ctrl-Y.
A: Dyara's reply:
The next time try to play with debug mode on. If it happens again you can
check the "death variable":
CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("DeathScriptSend","AR6200")
If the value is '1' you can set it back to '0' with
CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("DeathScriptSend","AR6200",0)
After this she should die immediatly.
If "DeathScriptSend" was '0' then it´s another problem that's independent
from my fix.
The variables for the other Five are
DeathScriptAbaz
DeathScriptGrom
DeathScriptIlla
DeathScriptSare
DeathScriptSend
DeathScriptYaga

I've done it on core rules. Method:
I surrounded Illesara Abazigal and Sendai with 6 Planetars each All of which were casting true sight with a delay of 0.5 seconds between each planetar to insure nobody went invisible.
10 skeleton warrion proved good expendable damage absorbers for Gromnir and Sarevok, and they might have actually done some minor damage.
2 Heakshars 1 for Abazigal and 1 for Sendai. ???? don't know how much good they did, but presumeably they got a few hits in to make both forget a few spells
I had a mini Imoen and mini nalia casting breach at Abazigal and Sendai every round. the real versions were casting dispel on both of them
Korgan Minsc and Cavalier rushed Gromnir and killed him.
Sendai Promptly died within 2-3 rounds.
Abazigal's defenses were better but after 6-8 round he ran out of contingencies and defences. the Planetars killed him.
4 skeletons and 2 Planetars slowly killed off Sarevok
and Aerie got lucky and she had no trouble casting harm, the 3rd of 4 landed and Yaga Shura died from Minsc' GWW
After the 5 were dead Amellisan was a joke, her magic defenses sucked essentially she was a strong tank. when one of my tanks got down to 25%HP he ran to (mini) Aerie for a heal while the other 2 continued the assult with Balthezar, who showed surprising inteligence: He actually ran away to heal when he got badly damaged.
A sincere Thank you for Ian and Sytze, your advice helped me greatly to formulate and modify my startegy for dealing with these two hard fights
oh 1 more thing: all my summons were hasted to give them an extra attack per round

Resurrection of the dead (thread) is a miracle...
Anyway on a similar-ish note, I just had 4 tanks (I emphasize melee) surrounding Yaga and pounding him to a Pulp, in total doing about 6-700 hits I would guess, before I tired of it and thought "What did I forget?" then CTRL J to all the pools to check if I had not emptied them of Bhall Essence. I had, but suddenly while at the first Yaga died. I was surprised, paused and read up. Nothing, he just keeled over.
He had however been unable to move for a while as he was surrounded by the Tanks and pummeled, with Celestial Fury stunning him (Yaga never got to attack in this finale).
I suspect that when the stun ran out the engine did some check and discovered he was past max hit, I cannot wager any better guess...

gosh they must have changed ascension a lot if you hardly manage that fight with 20 planetars... I remember I had a tough fight (with ascension+tactics) but nothing even close to 20 planetars... I just bashed the ... out of everybody with a FMT, jaheira and aerie... I don't even remember having to use cheese. I mean, and you even have Carsomyr....
I remember it was great to have people with ravager and unyielding to cut through the minions... for the rest I am pretty sure I just took a pretty usual route to defeat this battle. Oh, another thing I remember, which has been already mentioned was to continuously heal Balthazar with rod of resurrection as he can really keep a lot of nasties busy for a long while....
the toughest stuff I have everr done so far was the improved irenicus... that was insane...
I am curious to get to that battle as I am rolling through tob once again after 6 years of "BG fasting"...
