Immunity: Mind Affecting Spells

Post by Solusek »

I just noticed that apparently out of nowhere the "Immunity: Mind Affecting Spells" Icon popped up next to my char portait. I'm currently playing a sun elf wiz. Is it possible that you automatically gain immunity to mnd affecting spells with Int 21+ or something like that? Or is it just a bug? Can anybody explain where this sudden immunity may come from? Thx in advance.

It probably came from an item, no class in that game that I know of has that ability, so check your items, and check your classes just in case I'm wrong on that score.

I think it refers to the elf traits dealing with immunity to sleep effects and the bonus to saves against enchantment spells. I've only had that happen with elf characters, each and every elf character. That's the only thing I can think of.

Could also be a shard you collected. Each shard has their own benefit to them.

I'm level 5, so only one shard until now. And as I remember the first shard was +10HP. Furthermore I'm also pretty sure that is does not refer to the elven immunity to sleep, etc. because it wasn't there from the beginning but suddenly. Additionally I went through the game with a drow before who also did not have this ability. I also checked all the items I have equipped and there was nothing giving me immunity to mind affection spells.

I noticed that same "Immunity: Mind Affecting Spells" and wondered where it came from. I think it comes from the protection from evil spell, atleast that is how my gnome cleric I found picked up the icon. There may be other things that provide that, but in my situation I find it is the Protection from evil.

You don't get the immunity from having a high int or from being a wizard.

You get a 2nd shard from Duncan. And a 3rd from Aldanon. One of those may very well have the immunity on it. Level 5 would get you Duncans, and even Aldanons if you were pushing the storyline.

I thought the first few shards gave you, hp, physical states (str, dex, con +1), Mental stats, and a slight elemental resist effect.

By any chance, did you had your familiar around you, or died recently?
The same thing happened with my sorc, and it popped up right after my familiar was summoned or died.
Also, what familiar do you have?

Guys, believe me. It is NOT from one of the shards. I'm not even in Neverwinter, yet.

@swcarter: It was just a thought, since I don't know where it came from.
@tobek: It is not from the protection from evil spell. I don't have that spell and the immunity stays after resting.
@zamiel: I always have my familiar around, yes. But I haven't died once, yet. The familiar I use is the beetle.

Ok, and I have a spider. If I remember correctly in pen&paper rpg familiars give their resistances to their masters. Maybe this is some undocumented feat of them, and I do think that familiars give this immunity, not shards or bugs (I do not mean the familiar type, I mean the programming errors... shhh, english :) )
Try to unsummon it, rest, see if the icon stays or not, than summon again. Working?

It can't be that. I had a beetle familiar and got that with my elf wizard. As I said before though, I only get it with elves, with or without the familiar summoned.

Nope, I think zamiel is right. I don't get without my familiar. But when the familiar is summoned the symbol always appears after some time.

I have a pig as pet and also got the immunity, however it doesn't go away after I unsummon the pig. Is this a bug then or is it "working as intended"?

Once Amie ended up with this immunity also, after summoning her familiar I think. However, I don't think its intended to pass to the wizard. It might be some bandaid so that your familiars can't be charmed. Then you killing them and hurting your own experience/bonuses, you know messy stuff.

In case of a pig it is a bug. In case of bugs it is working as intended. Vermins have a natural immune to mind affecting spells trait and as per the pen and paper rule a wizard/sorc should get the immunity/resistance of her familiar.
And familiars can be charmed...

I play as Fighter/Weapon Master and have gotten Immunity:Mind Affecting Spells out of nowhere. It's not my equipement and I doubt that it is the spellcasters around me (or their familiars). I know it's not their spells. It's bugging the h*ll out of me.
[WHY CAN'T IT STAY?!]
