Install Order

Post by aged hippy »

Hello All,
I'm new to the BG world (and Forums), and installed the 4-in-1 pack a couple of weeks ago. I've been blundering around quite a bit and loving every minute. :)
I've now discovered how modded the game is, read the read_me docs, and decided on a few 'improvements'- so to speak.
The mods i've decided to install are listed below, and i will appreciate any guidance as to whether the order is correct ... or not, as the case may be.

Install Order:
1. Baldur's Gate
2. TotSC
3. Official Bioware Patch for TotSC
4. BGTales UK 5512 patch
5. BGTales DX8 English patch
6. BG1Fixpack11
7. BG1 TotSC TextUpdate
8. BG1NPC v12Beta3
9. BG II SoA
10. BG II ToB
11. BG II ToB Patch 26498
12. BG II Fixpack
13. EasyTutuToB
14. BG1NPC Portrait Pack
15. EasyTutu NPC Kits v2
16. EasyTutu Degreenifier v4
17. EasyTutu Spawn Randomiser v3
18. eSeries v1.8
19. Detectable Spells v1.2
20. SCS v3.01
21. Divine Remix
22. BG2 Tweaks

Edited to add:
.... and if anyone has any other suggestions, they too will be appreciated. :)

My suggestion, hippy, would be to first complete the entire Saga unmodded. Avoid potential mod compatibility issues with your virgin adventure, and see how the designers meant it to be. Besides, this game screams to be played more than once anyways, since you won't see everything in one playthru (even with just the vanilla game, and especially with the sequel).

Your install order (mods aside, because I have no experience there) seems correct: main game, expansion, expansion patch... sequel main game, sequel expansion, sequel expansion patch. At least for the US version, AFAIK.

Then, after your virgin run, check out the many fine mods this great game has inspired. I hear some of the mod NPC's are beyond excellent: Kelsey, Valen, the list goes on and on. Check out the mod sticky thread toward the top of both forums (BG & BG2) for details and opinions.

One could truly make a career out of the BG Saga.
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Since you have the 4-in-1 pack, which should contain BG1, TOTSC, BG2, and TOB all together then you can skip a few of your first steps. You shouldn't need any official patches except for possibly the official TOB patch, meaning you can skip the BG1 and TOTSC related official patches.

Here are some websites for mods that I found when I was playing the series.
I'm sure a search would produce the links. ;)
1.Pocket Plane Group, I seemed to get most of mine from here.
2. Black Wyrm's Lair, had some unique mods.
3. Gibberlings Three Forums
4.Spellhold Studios
5. Ironworks Gaming

Don't know if they're all still around, but a couple of years ago, I was a frequent visitor to these sites for the BG mods. :)

Thanks to All for the help, i apologise for the delay in replying but - just occasionally - RLing takes priority over RPing. :(

I decided to install EasyTutu and BG1NPC, and play it alongside the original game to see which i prefer.
So far, i thnk i prefer the modded game, some of the NPC interactions are hilarious....

you should really add Weimer's page (weidu.org) to that, for Solaufein, Valen, Tactics,...
Other than that, I can't remember what else. Most forums (like GB's) also have a sticky list somewhere.

For those of you who like me bought the 4 in 1 pack in the UK and came up with the "Only useable in Canada and the USA" script, it works fine if you download the UK patch. Apparently a number of American version ToSC discs were released in the UK and this patch solves the problem.
