Last Battle with Garius (spoilers)

Post by der Moench »

This doesn't seem right ... I'm in the Vale, got to the room with the ritual statues and Black Garius; he gets some of my people to turn on me; we all fight; I lose a couple of companions to the Balor, but do manage to kill all enemies ... except Garius. I keep smackin' him down, and he keeps popping back out of the black portal at 75% of max hit points. I have killed him now about 20 times ...

I did some searches both here and at the NWN2 Atari forms, but everything I read says you just kill him, and then you have to do some other stuff (destroy the statues, click on the portal an kill something in there - ?)

Is this a bug, or am I just missing something?

If you have AJ with you, he should be telling you what you need to do next. Killing the final boss is a long process, with several steps. The things you mentioned in the parentheses are just some of the steps.

Yep, I have Jerro with me, but he isn't talking. The problem is I can't even kill Garius. From what I have read on various sites, Jerro only starts telling me what to do after the first phase (which includes killing Garius) is done - ?

I'm kinda thinking I'm bugged ... so I started a new game. ;) :o :)

Peace.

That is odd. You read he true name way back at crossroads keep, so, the only thing you have to do is kill him. Never had issues with it. Suppose you could be bugged. I never checked to see if BG heals himself or not.

Have you tried casting the true name on Garius ?
AJ should have a scroll in his inventory. The true name. You can select the scroll and use the speciel-option to cast the the true name on your target. Try to do that on Garius, with him as a target, maybe that'll help...

Yeah, tried that, too. Didn't seem to work.

I must say, I've been real lucky in terms of bugs. I hear a lot of people complain about them, but this is the first (and only) one I have come across so far.

Peace.

Did you try using shard sword on him? or Did you try reloading before you talk to Garius or even way before that. It better then starting from the begining.

I was definitely using the silver sword, so that didn't seem to help. I re-loaded from a save game just prior to the battle a few times, but didn't go back to older saves. Frankly, I'm not real concerned about finishing the last few moments of the game (well, I assume that they would be the last few). I always intended to play through at least twice, so this gave me the excuse to move on. (I just got to Neverwinter in the next game, and have already done some things differently, and had fun with it. No loss, IMO.)
