Banner add crashing internet explorer

Post by De_Priester »

Since today my internet explorer started crashing when an add tries to load here at Gamebanshee. Now it's not all the adds, can't exactly see which one does it due to my explorer crashing but it's not:

The lego one,
Luminus,
Company of heroes,
Magic the gathering (cards one),
Celebrity exclusive,

Don't have a clue which one it could be but whenever the mystery add tries to load blam explorer just crashes. I think it's only the top banner....

Anyone else encounter this?

It looks like the only banner I get now is that of celebrity exclusive so no crashes, if I notice other banners that don't crash I'll add ehm so the mods might know what banner might cause the problem (if I notice the problem is solved I'll be content knowing it solved itself or someone removed the banner)

This is the first time I actually pay attention to the banners :P

I keep crashing my browser while surfing GameBanshee, something in the adds or in the banner messes up internet explorer and blam Windows closes down the window. Now this is only at my office computer, not at home, but still very crappy since I love checking in while "working".

Are you getting an error saying the crash was caused by flash?

Nope nothing specific, it's just an error from internet explorer, as soon as I see it again I'll note down the clutter in it. But it happens while trying to load a specific banner.

Have you tried any Add blocker? It could help to solve the problem, at least oyu could be able to enter the site again...

I've been crashing somewhere between 50 and 100 times these last few days, and only on GB... Yes, I'm using IE :p

I'll try to use IE a while as well to see if I get the same error. Problem is that the adverts are localized, so you might not see the same adds as many others.

Yeah, I've been getting the exact same situation as everyone else here. Really getting to be a pain in the rump.

I wonder if this is the same group of ads that is causing my problems with Opera (see thread below)... I finally resorted to enabling the popup and ad blocker that is in my firewall. I hate to do that at GB, but nothing seemed to be working, and I don't have the tech ability to figure out precisely what is causing the problem.

Maybe do try an ad blocker and see if it makes a difference?

I've forwarded this issue on to UGO. Hopefully it will be resolved quickly.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one, I'll be back at work monday and do some testing. I'll reload pages a couple of times and see if it still crashes with the adds. Thanks a bunch Buck!
