Killing Kangaxx with solo Kensai/Mage

Post by ReForce »

Is it possible to do so?

I can't use the Sling of Everard as a Kensai, and I can't think of another weapon that's 5+ that i can access... so as far as I know, it isn't.

Staff of the Magi should count as +5. Crom Faeyr as well. Of course if you have ToB there are other possibilities. Staff of the Magi is the only one I can think of that you can get early. You'll want to get it anyway.

Ah, thanks, I can't believe I didn't think of those two. Staff of the Magi is in the Twisted Rune place, right? That's gonna be quite a handful with my level 14 Mage/levle 9 Kensai, hehe.

When you mention ToB, how would that help exactly? Going to Watcher's Keep and finding something?

Since you asked me I did some research and there aren't any weapons from ToB that I can find taht you can get early enough. I just thought there was. If you wait a while doing it then there's the spell Energy Blades that might help you though.

You can use a summons. Even the Greatsword+1 using skeleton warriors can hurt him.

BTW, Melf's Minute Meteors also count as +5 weapons, and you should have a bunch of slots for those...

Lol, this is exactluy what i did about 20 minutes ago. I did the twisted rune to get Staff of the Magi, and then i went to Kangaxx, used a scroll of protection from magic. I wiped out his initial form with no trouble. Then i spent the net ten minutes doing 2 damage a hit to Kangaxx. When my prot from magic scroll expired i used a protection from undead scroll.

Hope this helps you

Sounds good.

I just did the Planar Sphere and I'm already level 9/20 (ToB installed), so hopefully Twisted Rune won't be too hard. Any hints on soloing it? :D

I wanna find a Time Stop scroll, too, any idea where one of them is in Athkatla (if one exists)? So far I've got Spell Trap and Improved Alacrity.

Sure,

Buy a protection from magic scroll from Ribald Baterman and hack and slash. *Spoilerish* You may want to get the amulet of power first.

Cheers

I just finished the Twisted Rune without a Protection from Magic scroll (go go Spelltrap and Simalcrum) and got the Staff of the Magi. I then went to Kangaxx, did a Sunray, then put up Spell Trap and hacked him until he turned into the demi-lich. I then used the Protection from Magic scroll, the Staff of the Magi and Ring of the Ram, but I couldn't outdamage his hp regen. So, I decided to be a little sneaky and equipped the above items, but I also casted Simalcrum. As such, I had two versions of me, both with Protection from Magic up, beating on him with the Staff, which was enough to slightly outdamage his regen. Throw in two Ring of Ram effects when he got to Badly Injured, and bye bye Kangaxx.

Damn, that was satisfying. :D

The Staff +4 you can buy from Ribald does more damage then the SotM.

Ah well, too late now. I mashed Firkraag first shot with simalcrum and lotsa breeches, pierce magics, magic missiles and kais. Brynnlaw and Spellhold were pretty basic (level 26/9 now, though), too, and now I've just entered the Underdark. I'm starting to think whether once I've finished SoA whether i'll be able to solo ToB, too.

I don't see why not.

BTW, what's your alignment and proficiencies look like?

Well, there's the Underdark completely cleared, level 31/9 now, hehe.

I'm Lawful Good, 5 in Katanas and 3 in Flails, 1 in Quarterstaff, 1 in Sling (did it before I rememberd Kensais can't use ranged weapons, silly me) and 3 in Two Weapon Style, and im using Celestial and Flail of Ages or Celestial and Dak'Kons. Now that I think of it, I should have put those three into War Hammers instead of Flails, as I've just got the Crom Faery forged but probably won't use it as I don't have any proficiencies. :(

Rest of my gear is:

Robe of Vecna
Dusty Rose Ioun Stone
Amulet of Power
Ring of Protection +2
Ring of Gaxx
Girdle of Bluntess
Boots of Speed
Cloak of the Sewers

Can anyone suggest any changes I could make, especially pertaining to the Girdle (seems kinda useless)?

Cheers.

girdle - golden girde?

but what about a strength one? if you equip Crom left handed, you do get the str bonus irrespective of proficiency and RH another weapon (for me, Celestial Fury). if not, or if you have other str problems, a girdle of str may still be useful. 25 str AND CF's stunning effect? nice!
people who don't habitually use CF probably don't appreciate just how good a weapon it is when you have ***** in katana. it also makes a great backstab weapon - I have simply obliterated enemies with a thief using it - one-shot, gone.

bluntness protection is good when dealing with blunt-damage creatures, which may include fire giants - for a melee player, I prefer that girdle to the one for slashing. my affection for it is probably a left-over from BG1 days.
