how do i level efficiently

Post by CrimsonSun »

i'm not 100% sure on how this leveling system works, but is it you're suppose to get 10 skill points in order to get 5 points for that skill attribute? and also can you do 2 major skills and 1 minor? or do u have to do 1 major and 2 minor in order to get 5/5/5 points for each 3 attributes? and also is it a MUST to get 10 skill points for each 3 skills in order to get the 5/5/5 point attributes? sry for all the questions but this effieciently lvling thing for me is a lil confusing.

You need to get 10 skill increases to get the 5 bonus for any attribute. It does not matter whether the skill increases come from major or minor skills.

As long as you get them before you get your tenth overall major skill increase, and thus qualify to level up, you will be okay.

For example, my wood elf wants to make certain to increase endurance by 5 on his next level up, he will keep track of how many skill increases he gets that are tied to endurance. Blocking is his major in endurance, while heavy armour and armourer are his minors. But they could have all been majors, or minors. It does not matter.

Through normal adventuring, his blocking went up by 2, and his heavy armour went up by 4. Lets say for example I have increased total major skills by 9 so far. The next time I increase a major skill my possible attribute bonuses will be frozen until I sleep. If I'm not careful, and level at this point I will only have made 6 skill increases and qualify for only 3 more points of endurance. You get the number of skill increases divided by 2, on each level up.

So in this example, I would want to get ahold of some repair hammers and increase my amourer skill by 4, for a total of ten, before I get my tenth major skill increase for that level.

Hope this helps

Easy ways to level up

Ive searched the forums and i have come across what you need to level up, but not any specific ways to help you efficiently level up. Does anyone recommend areas or actions you do that help you level up quickly and give you the most skill increases?
Thanks

Plan your level out first.

The best way to ensure you get the full five points toward any given attribute is to decide before hand which three attributes you are targetting.

It really helps also if you didn't put all three skills as majors in any given attribute. I always make sure to have at least one minor in any given attribute, so I can develop it without leveling too fast.

Some ideas on how to develop different attributes are:

Strength - Basically pick whatever you have a minor in and train it, or practice it, over and over. But you can also combine training with it. For example if you could also train up intelligence at the same time by summoning a scamp up, and beating it down with a mace.

Intelligence - Usually this is when I make lots of potions, because alchemy goes up so fast I never pick this as a major. You could also just keep conjuring up stuff like above. Haven't played with Mysticism yet.

Wisdom - Use your original heal minor wounds spell over and over and it will bring restoration up, albeit slowly. I like to combine Wisdom with Endurance training. Put some heavy armor on, maybe use a sheild too, and let a crab or something that doesn't hurt much just keep beating on you, while you constantly cast heal spells, sheild spells (alteration, also wisdom) while you gain points in Heavy Armour and/or Block. Maybe get more points fixing your armour afterwards. Or, you could just keep on casting shield or something else cheap mana wise, but restore won't go up if you cast it while you are healthy. This is why I like to combine training.

Agility - This is the easiest one really. Run out to a road and follow guards around in sneak mode, or if you belong to a guild, sneak around in the living quarters at night as your guild mates sleep. You can also get alot of security points at the guild halls. They always have tough locks to pick. You can work on one pick for as long as you want, just get a couple tumblers set, and back out, over and over. You still get skill ups without actually picking the lock.

Endurance - See Wisdom, or just always carry repair hammers, and repair everything you find. Even if you aren't planning to take it with you, strip your fresh kill of anything damaged, repair it, and drop it.

Speed - I use the same strategy as Endurance with weak opponents. Wear light armour, and let something beat you down slowly for cheap points. Or you could just run and swim forever, or jump alot. No real short cuts for these besides training. You can combine speed with endurance and wisdom very easily by wearing light armour, using a shield, repair hammers and heal spells.

Personality - I haven't really built this one up at all. But if I were to, I'd save a whole lot of loot up and sell sell sell, and play the speechcraft mini game for that level. If you have low Illusion skill, it would be very fast to keep casting a cheap light spell to increase it.

Theres a few ideas I like to use. As I said, it's most important to target attributes at the beginning of the level first. Then work on the related minors until you are comfortable, then let normal gaming take care of the rest. It's not always fun, but neither is getting stuck with nothing but 2's and 3's to choose from at level ups.
