Help with finding a character, and multiclassing.
Ok, what I'd like to do is this... i thought i'd run it passed you guys first.
I'd like a assimar sorcerer with the red dragon prestige thing.
What would be the penalties I get? Because i'd be multiclassing, and neither class is one the assimar likes. Would I end up getting all my abilities? Or would i go half levels of each? and because i'm multiclassing would assimar be a poor choice because of the -1 level thing?
Annnd: A question about the game, is there multiplayer capabilities, or is it like Bladur's Gate 2?

There are MP capabilities, but from what I read over on Bioware Forums, they leave much to be desired.
As for the Dragon Disciple, well, you'll be quite a ways in on Sorcerer, Maybe a bit faster using Bard, tho..... before you can change to the RDD.
Unless I am mis-remembering the manual, as it has been SOME time since I read it.

RDD = Red Dragon Disciple. Because it's a prestige class, it won't ever cause you an experience penalty.
If you choose aasimar, then you'll probably end the game at level 19 rather than 20.
If you multiclass, then you'll end up with X levels of one class and Y levels of another class. You can choose what X and Y are, but if you multiclass a sorcerer then you probably won't get your highest level spells (you'll need at least 18 levels of sorcerer to get level 9 spells).

The prestige classes have different requirements. You can find the requirements in the manual or here.Hasdrubal wrote:Cool!! So when do I have the oportunity to choose a prestige class?
Also, when i've finished the game, is that 'it'? Like Baldure's Gate 2?
There is probably going to be an expansion pack, but for now finishing the campaign is it.

A lot has already been said, but I just want to add a bit:
1. If you multiclass with anything but a Prestige class, you WILL get a -20 XP penelty.
2. I personally would never multiclass a +1 to +3 race. You will not get the final levels of your starter/other/Prestige class to reach lvl20.
3. You can do a mild cheat to help your +1 to +3 race:
SPOILER: highlight to read-
Spoiler
at the end of the Tutorial, Export your character and load it into a new game and run it through the Tutorial again: once for a +1 race, twice for a +2 and 4 (yes, 4 times) times for a +3. The penelty for this is boredom. And the advantage doesn't really show, I imagine, until the end of the game, since the possible party members you accept are still 1,2, or 3 levels ahead of you. (I say 'I imagine' because I have never yet gone to the end of the game)

@ Fljotsdale, If you are going to cheat, why waste all of that time? You are better off using the console and dropping a few thousand XP on your character in the matter of seconds.
"You can do whatever you want to me."
"Oh, so I can crate you and hide you in the warehouse at the end of Raiders?"

It depends on what you want to do. The RDD prestige class in no way improves your casting abilities. It is a bad class to take if you want to be able to cast spells above 4th level IMHO. However, if you feel like having a sword wielding sorcerer, the Eldritch Knight Class isn't a bad choice. If you don't mind spending some feats to get the requirements, you will only lose 1 caster level, and you will get a much higher BAB and an extra hit point per level by going into that class.

What I really want is a Uber Sorcerer... the kind that makes everyone tremble. That's why I'm going to go with aasimar because of the +2 charisma. (btw, how will the +2 benefit me?) ((and what does IMHO, BAB mean?))Magrus wrote:It depends on what you want to do. The RDD prestige class in no way improves your casting abilities. I looked through all the multiclassing stuff, and none of them seemed to help the sorcerer abilities as much as DDR. But good point about my spell level being affected. So I guess if I want to be the 'Uber Sorcerer' i won't multiclass?
RDD doesn't help at all with Sorcerer abilities. It simply requires that you have at least 1 level in Bard or Sorcerer.
"IMHO" means "In my honest opinion"
"BAB" means "Base Attack Bonus"
And for future reference, as I tend to use it when it is being discussed:
"PrC" means "Prestige Class"
"Cha" means "Charisma"
I know I don't like not knowing shorthand when I jump into a new area or topic.
If you want an "uber sorcerer" I am assuming you want the highest level spells the fastest. Given that Sorcerers gain spell levels slower than Wizards, you probably won't want to lose even 1 caster level. Especially if you are going to be an Aasimar, which will leave you at 19th level max instead of 20th.
Charisma affects a few things with the Sorcerer. Firstly, it affects the maximum level of spells you can cast. If you subtract 10 from your Cha score, that is the highest level Sorcerer spell that you can cast. So, in order to cast 9th level spells at the end of the game, you will NEED a 19 Cha. You will get 1 point to add to any of your attributes at levels 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20, so keep that in mind when adding points at those levels.
Cha does the following for pure sorcerers:
1. Affects the highest level spells you can cast
2. Affects how many bonus spells you recieve (shown on page 16 of your manual)
3. Affects the Difficulty Class (DC) of your spells. The DC is the number that enemies need to save against in order to reduce or avoid the affects. Typically, you take 10+ the Cha Modifier+ Spell level= DC for each spell.
So, in effect, the higher the Cha, the more spells, better spells, and the better you are at casting those spells overall. Not to mention, the bonuses you get to Cha related skills as well.

Well, that really depends on what you want to play. If it's a high level spellcasting character you want, then you shouldn't multiclass a sorcerer or wizard. BUT if it's the RDD that really interests you, and you want to see your Half-Dragon tear your enemies apart in melee, then you should probably play something like a Fighter/Sorc/RDD(9/1/10). Of course you then would have to choose another race to avoid the XP penalty. I'd recommend Human/Half-Elf or if you want to do something really exotic you could go for a dwarf. Hope this helps.Hasdrubal wrote:I get it. So multi classing with anything i'd have to split the levels. i.e. 5 levels of ddr, and 15 of sorcerer. It makes getting a second class sort of not worth it... especially since I can't get my highest level spells. So really, it wouldn't be a good idea to multiclass *any* sorcerer?
So long,

Haha! Excelent . Thanks alot! That makes things a lot easier to understand. I think I'll stick with Aasimar thought, just because of the added charisma.... maybe. I like the fact that humans get extra skills and such. Anyways, thanks for your help!Magrus wrote:RDD doesn't help at all with Sorcerer abilities. Well... because that would FEEL like cheating.
Running a char through the Tutorial a couple of times doesn't FEEL like real cheating, lol! See, I paid for it in boredom!
Besides... you get several items 2+ times over, and you get to keep 'em, too. Nothing great, of course, but useful.
And I only did it with Drow Wizard. With a starting Health of 4, and staying there while everyone else goes up to lvl 3, she's pretty vulnerable...
