Dual-class advice

Post by Timm »

Hello,

I need some advice with my party. I'm playing a multiplayergame with the following characters:

1 sorcerer
1 inquisitor
1 kensai
1 berserker
1 fighter.

I'm planning to dual the kensai to a mage, the berserker to a cleric and the fighter to a thief. However, I don't know what's the best level to dual class them. I have tob installed, tactics, ascension, improved battles and some others so XP shouldn't be a problem.

I was thinking to dual the kensai at lvl 24, so he has access to improved alacrity, gww & critical strike, all in the same round.

I don't know about the berserker->cleric and the fighter->thief. The time it takes to reactivate the other classes isn't a problem too, because my sorcerer & inquisitor should be able to handle everything on their own :)

Any suggestions?

Hey Timm, welcome to GameBanshee.
The questions you asked have been asked - answered - many, many times before on these forums. Use the search button and you'll find many threads debating the pro's and cons of dualclassing.
Happy gaming :)

9 or 13 for both depending on your patience.

at 13 you'll have a better thaco and 1/2 more attacs per round. I'd reccomend 9>mage 13>cleric because it's easier to reach level 14 with a cleric than it is with a mage

secondly you'll be using that cleric in melee so the extra bonuses will be more usefull, whereas the mage is best kept at range casting and won't benifit a whole lot from the extra thaco. if you want to fight with a mage you'll be casting tensors anyway

oh and don't even think of going to level 24 unless you solo. the dualing period would be hmm when does a mage get level 25 ?? I'm guessing about 4 million can't recall of the top of my head

Fighter 24 requires 4000000XP. That means you won't even regain you fighter abilities. The highest level to dual at that would still allow you to regain fighter abilities is 21 as far as can tell. That would eventually leave you with a fighter 21-> mage 22. And you could have one greater whirlwind and improved alacrity. However I strongly suggest that, if you want a powerful character, you do a multi class fighter/mage instead.

Anyway the kensai to mage is a cool combo because the disadvantages of the kensai class are made non-issues by dualling. Kensai can't wear armour but when dualling for some reason he can wear robes. Always seemed an oversight to me too. However it's not like there's no good armour to wear for a figther mage. There's at least one really cool option. And since no one else in the party would be able to wear it why not just go fighter/mage?

You'll get a lot more HLA's and thus have a much more powerful character. You'll also lose 2 mage levels and gain three fighter levels. Neither is any real big deal.

You are right, my bad. I tested out the kensai->mage by using cluaconsole to give hem the XP but it seems that if you try it this way, the game ignores the XP-cap of 8 million. This also clarifies why no one ever considered this option :)

The idea to dual at such a high level was that the characters could stay in the background because the sorcerer and the paladin could handle almost every situation on their own.

This immediately answers all of my questions, so thank you a lot.
